PROPERTY DESCRIPTION:
Our professionally appointed, fully furnished and tastefully updated guest retreat is the perfect place to stay for a visit to the area or a New York City getaway, featuring 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and an outdoor European style courtyard! Located in the historic district of Short Hills, New Jersey, we are a short 5 min walk to the train, and just a 30/45 min train ride into New York's Penn Station or a 30 minute drive to New York City by car.

You'll find all the comforts of home in our beautiful retreat including pillow top mattresses, down pillows and comforters, and fluffy cotton bath towels. (We are happy to provide down alternative bedding upon request).

Our retreat has a fully equipped gourmet eat in kitchen with high end amenities such as marble countertops, a gas range, a Dacor french door refrigerator with filtered water and a built in ice maker, Miele dishwasher, and a washer & dryer. And of course we provide you with all of the necessary culinary tools should you decide to stay in and cook a delicious meal!

Just outside is a beautiful, private European style courtyard for your enjoyment as well. It's the perfect place to enjoy a hot cup of coffee in the morning or sip a cocktail as the sun goes down.

There is a large flat screen television, and your stay includes Verizon FIOS high speed wireless internet and cable tv. Additionally, we provide off street parking for up to two vehicles, and we have a large yard with a swing, trampoline and a custom built chipping green which provides a bit of fun for everyone!

We have a friendly dog named Miranda that lives on the property. She loves to interact with humans of all ages, and enjoys a good tummy rub should you be willing to indulge her!! She may bark occasionally but for the most part you won't even know she's here.

Beautiful and convenient!

Long term holiday rental

We rented this property for 7 weeks from mid-November through the end of December to celebrate the holidays close to family. It was the perfect property for a long term stay and for entertaining. The kitchen is amazing, rooms are spacious and sleeping accommodations very comfortable. The downtown is within walking distance, including coffee shops, wonderful restaurants, and train to NYC. Lori and her family were very attentive if we had any questions or needed anything. This is a wonderful property!!

Owner of Lori Gascoyne Interior Design in Short Hills, NJ, I grew up in the restaurant business and started my career in hotel management working for Hyatt Hotels. I've lived and worked with my husband Rich internationally across Europe, Latin America, and Australia as well domestically including Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Austin and Short Hills, NJ. I now run my own interior design business specializing in residential interiors, and my husband Rich and I run Seaspray Luxe, our vacation rental business catering to travelers that appreciate high end amenities. My personal interests include architecture and design, cooking and baking, traveling, and spending time with my wonderful family and friends.

Why they chose this property

Short Hills is a picturesque, historic town, founded by the inventor of the roller shade, Stuart Hartshorn, in the mid 1800's. Our home was built as the original Old Short Hills General Store in 1885 to provide the residents of Short Hills with the finest quality coffees, teas and other various specialty items. The store was managed by a very personable shopkeeper who not only ran the store but lived upstairs as well. The store was the first of its kind to provide delivery, and it has been said that a single delivery could take several hours because many of the local residents were known to invite the couriers inside for tea and sweets upon their arrival!

One of the most famous playhouses on the East coast, The Paper Mill Playhouse, is also located in Short Hills, where you can take in a broadway quality show during your stay. Most shows star famous broadway actors, and rival the quality of shows in New York City.

The 3000 acre South Mountain Reservation borders our town, and is a wonderful place to go for a hike to enjoy the outdoors and breathtaking views of New York City. The reservation has many varieties of wildlife, a fishing pond, bike trails, beautiful waterfalls, and an old fashioned rope swing. You can even hike to "Washington Rock" where George Washington looked over the valley to monitor the movements of the British troops during the Revolutionary War.

If you're a golfer, there are many beautiful courses just minutes away, including the iconic Baltusrol Golf Club where the 2016 PGA Championship was held. And, if you want to work on your short game, we have a large putting green right in the back yard for you to enjoy using while you stay!

Additionally, we are surrounded by several quaint towns, most just minutes away by car or train and the famous Short Hills mall is just a 5 minute drive, known for it's exclusive high end shopping experience.

Whatever your interests, we are certain that you will enjoy your stay in Short Hills.

Bustling downtown Millburn (part of the same town) is just under a mile away and a beautiful walk! Millburn is full of quaint shops, a large variety of dining options, coffee houses, salons and an old fashioned movie theater. During the warmer months many of the amazing restaurants offer outdoor dining, and many have a byob policy with no corkage fee!
