As a welcome we leave you a small detail, since after the trip, I'm sure you'll love it.
These days in Bermeo and surroundings we want you to spend some unforgettable days, for this reason, we have taken the trouble to offer you plans and places where you can visit and of course after the visit you will have to recharge your batteries, we also leave you a series of restaurants .
As a must see you have:
-San Juan de Gaztelugatxe : Just 10 minutes by car from the house where you are staying, few places on the Basque coast contain as much magic as the Gaztelugatxe rock. The privileged location of the centuries-old hermitage, challenging the Cantabrian Sea, is combined with the force of nature, history and tradition; The result of all this is generated in a fantasy setting. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothes and water. When you reach the highest point of the island, you will see the hermitage with a bell on the front wall. According to legend, if you ring the bell 3 times and make a wish it will come true. So just because of the desire it is a must see. You can purchase tickets at www.euskadiguia.com
-Matxitxako Lighthouse: It is located between Bermeo and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, it represents the most prominent cape in the Cantabrian Sea. There are two lighthouses, the old one from 1852 and the new one from 1909. From either of them you can see how the blue of the sea merges with the intense green of the cliffs. From Matxitxako you can see one of the
-Old Port: A walk through the port to the old breakwater enjoying the views of the houses with colorful facades with the boats in the foreground, is without a doubt one of the best things to do in Bermeo along with the experience of Have a txakoli (white wine) accompanied by some typical pintxo from the area on one of its numerous terraces.
-Old Town and Fisherman's Museum : Once the visit to the port is completed, you can climb one of the steep stairs that will take you to the CV where it is located in the Fisherman's Museum, an essential place to see. Here you will learn about the long history of Bermeo's fishing tradition and its relationship with the sea. In front of the museum, we recommend that you go to the fishermen's monument, some life-size bronze sculptures that show several members of a family waiting for the arrival of the sailors and from where you will have magnificent views of the old port.
Cross the Puerta de San Juan: The Puerta de San Juan, the only one of the 7 access gates of the old medieval wall that surrounds the city and that still stands.
- Lamera Park : It is located in the center of the municipality, next to the port and the train station. Here you can taste typical dishes such as marmitako. During the tour, in addition to seeing several sculptures, you can observe the architecture of the casino, from 1993 that houses a leisure space.
-Tala: Beautiful wooded area located in the upper part of the town that allows us to enjoy the beauty of the sea while having a drink in the canteen that we will find in a corner.
- Aritzatzu beach or cove : a beautiful secret ideal for taking a swim with family or friends. You have to take a path located on the left side of the cemetery to go down. It has a beach bar, showers and lifeguard.
-Mundaka : Taking a train to arrive in 5 minutes is the best option to get to Mundaka. (It is not highly recommended to go by car since parking is very complicated). This small coastal town boasts one of the longest left-hand waves in the world, making it a popular destination for surf lovers. It stands out for its picturesque port, the narrow streets of the old town and the walk to the spectacular hermitage. of Santa Catalina.

-Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve: Urdaibai, an incredible natural space declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. In this extensive landscape crossed by the Oka River you will find spectacular marshes full of all types of birds and other species, and some of the best beaches in the Basque Country, where you can surf or simply see its charm such as Laga or Laida, natural viewpoints such as the Ogoño rock, Matxitxako cape and the hermitage of San Pedro de Atxarre.
Best panoramic views of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.
-Izaro Island : This island protects the entrance to Urdaiabai and is full of history. Currently the island is uninhabited, several religious buildings have passed through its summit. Buildings of which nothing remains today. The island is famous for being the main protagonist of the beautiful rivalry between Bermeo and Mundaka. Rivalry that has its origin in the regatta that pitted Mundaka and Bermeo against each other to gain control of Izaro. They say that they risked the island in a regatta that had the neighboring municipality of Elantxobe as referee. A regatta that Bermeo finally won and that is remembered annually in the town's festivities on July 22 with the throwing of a tile by the mayor of Bermeo, as a symbol of belonging to the island of Izaro.
