It was so awesome!!b
It was a fully stocked, accommodating to my hectic schedule and they were very kind!
My 5 year old is still raving about it and we can’t wait to go again!
Paula was amazing! Her and her husband were both very sweet and very attentive to any need we had. The yurt was everything we wanted it to be. It was a great weekend that I will cherish forever.
The yurt was exactly as described! The property overall is very well kept, has plenty to do, and is in a perfect spot in between Geneva and downtown Waterloo! Paula and John were so nice and made sure we had everything we needed! Definitely recommend!
I've never stayed in a Yurt nor vacationed by myself and I had the best time ever. John and Paula the most attentive hosts. John taught me how to Kayak for the first time. As a matter if fact I am going back again this weekend for another stay in the Yurt.
Will also be booking 2 weeks again next summer!!
This is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed !!!!!
John and Paula make you feel like family. They have made a little slice of heaven out of their property. Their number one concern is that you enjoy your stay. I only hope others get to enjoy what we did for the two nights we were there. There are not many places left like this to enjoy !!!! 🥰
We really enjoyed staying at the Yurt here at Canalside . We were only there for 2 days but wanted to stay all summer ! John and Paula were wonderful hosts and made sure we had everything needed for a great stay . I highly recommend the whole camping and boating experience that there was for anyone who rents the Yurt ! Especially enjoyed the deck with a new barbecue grill and multiple tables and chairs for sitting outside thank you ! We will definitely be going back as often as possible !
Paula and John offer so much on their property that it’s hard to balance excursions around the Finger Lakes with staying at Canal Side and using the kayaks, taking a boat tour, or grilling a steak on the dock by the serene canal. We have now stayed in a houseboat and the yurt, and we loved both.
It was a fun experience! Paula and John were so nice. We took a boat ride around lake Seneca that was very informative! Didn't catch any fish on the canal but it was still fun and beautiful! Stopped at a few wineries too! Definitely a different experience!
A pleasant location along the water with an unique variety of rentals. The owners/managers were more than attentive with information of the property, local & history of the Geneva area. It was quite nice of them to provide canoes & kayaks for all guests to use on the river/canal & the lake. The yurt met our needs & was the uncommon type of rental we were looking for. Location was very convenient to Geneva, but just far enough out of town. A great home base to explore the Finger Lakes area.
Had a blast at the yurt with exceptional hosts John and Paula. The yurt and the bathhouse were far better equipped than expected. John built a fire ready to go every night. Close to nearly everything. Be sure to check out Macs Drive In and Muranda Cheese. I’m hoping to go back on the house boat next.

4th of July celebrated in September
It was very refreshing to get away. The scenery was breathtaking. The ammenities were a little misleading as the stove is a hot plate and the ac unit provided was not nearly enough for the heat. Overall it was well worth the trip. The owners are the best. One thing i did'nt care for was the constant swell of pot (morning, noon & night).
We had a fantastic time with Paula and John. My husband and I went out with them on their pontoon boat because he spotted a piece of driftwood. My husband and John managed to get this massive piece of wood back to the property and helped him clean it off. It was a fun experience. The yurt was cozy and comfortable. We went fishing and had fun playing games. Wonderful place to unwind and relax.

Gorgeous, serene setting
Due to a scheduling error, we stayed in the Floating Cottage instead of the Yurt. We were not disappointed! What a quaint, clean, fun "hotel" on water. We enjoyed cool air-conditioning, comfortable hot showers, and relaxed on the back deck while watching boats pass by. Paula and John have so many activities to offer with kayaks, boats, bikes, campfire, lawn games, and neighborly camaraderie. Located between Cayuga and Seneca lakes, we were able to drive the length of each lake to enjoy the scenery and some of the best beers and wine we have had. We can't wait to visit the Finger Lakes again, and we will definitely book with Paula and John at Canal Side for our lodging.
We stayed 3 nights and 4 days in the Yurt. We loved it and recommend it for many camp lovers. We brought our own sheets and towels but We recommend bringing shower slippers since the bath house is a short walk from the Yurt. It was lovely and the a/c did a good job of keeping us cool during the night. We were gone site seeing during the day. We grilled our meat and ate outdoors in the picnic area. Paula and John were great host-friendly, accommodating and hospitable. It was like camping with your favorite Uncle and Aunt who couldn’t wait to share the history of living on the canal. It was fantastic. We hope to come back.

Adorable yurt on Seneca lake canal!
The set up at Paula and johns place is just adorable! They have a private backyard w a camper, yurt, and 2 house boats. The yurt is very rustic and sits right on the canal. Paula and John had kayaks, canoes, and a really fun paddle board for free use. Since they are right in the canal, you have to get out on the water! The location is great - right by Seneca lake state park, grocery stores nearby, coffee, etc. The yurt is set up very cute with a small kitchen, full size refrigerator, table, couch, and bed. There is an outhouse w a bathroom and shower. I’d recommend bringing your own sheets, towels, and toiletries just so you have something that reminds you of home. It was in the 90s during our stay and Paula had a portable air conditioner running in the yurt. It was still pretty toasty during the day but the AC helped cool it down at night. I’d definitely recommend staying here. We never wanted to leave the property because it just feels so comfortable. Highly recommend this unique setting for anyone looking to try out something different! You will not be disappointed!

"Mature" property
We were very excited to find this yurt rental in the Finger Lakes last March and made the reservation right away. Unfortunately when we arrived in July, we found that the pictures were not entirely accurate.
The entire property is in rather old condition; the yurt itself was a large disappointment as the crown was broken, so it could not be opened for air circulation as well as several windows. During the day it was super hot, even though the host had an air conditioner running. At night we almost froze, again because there was no air circulation.
The sink inside the yurt only provided cold water, as well as the sink in the shared bathroom for the entire campground. This bathroom was in such bad condition that we never attempted to take showers, although there was some hot water in the shower. Between the smell of mold/mildew and the large spiders everywhere, we went to the state park nearby to take showers. Yes, the state park campground bathroom was a huge improvement!
After 2 days of this "glam camping", the owner allowed us to move to a houseboat that was vacated. This was significantly better, mostly because we had our own shower, hot water and many windows and central air. We did have to pay an additional fee for this better accommodation, but it was worth it in our opinion.
If you are used to tent camping, this yurt may be exceptable to you. My companion has stayed in several yurts before and this was not the experience that we had expected unfortunately. The hosts are nice people, but the property as a whole is struggling.
Really fun time. Access to the canal (and the lake) was great. The Yurt was comfortable and well appointed. The overall experience felt like summer camp!
The Yurt was as described in the ad. Paula and John were excellent hosts keeping us informed on the day of check in that the yurt was ready for our arrival. The property was clean and cared for. There was plenty to do. If you liked being on the water there were kayaks and paddle boating available. The game hut had plenty of options and books if you just wanted to relax on the dock and read. There was a grill that we made use of each evening. Lovely to eat and look out on the water. In the evenings there was a great seating area and a fire pit to enjoy the outdoors on the canal. We would definitely book again if we go back to the fingerlake region. Thanks Paula and John for the warm welcome!
