About Rosemary Bentley
I have enjoyed having a second home in Mojacar since 1982, my husband and I became enchanted by the village and the beautiful beaches Mojacar has to offer. Over the years, we have built friendships of all nationalities and diverse interests. In contrast, we live and work in the hustle and bustle of city life. Our daughter is currently away studying at university.
Rosemary Bentley purchased this Villa in 2012
Why Rosemary Bentley chose Mojácar
Mojacar, for us, has always been a blissful contrast for living in London. We can't wait to get down there and relax. It also has a unique sub-tropical climate giving us 3000hrs of sunshine in a year, yet only a 2hr flight away. My husband originally found the area whilst being involved in the film industry. The beaches are delightful, unspoilt, pristine water and many are secluded. I love the simplicity of Spanish life, spanish food, especially their tapas - usually complimentary with a beer or glass of wine. As a family we enjoy boating, kayaking and a game of tennis. We are experienced divers and find the sites in the protected areas of the national park of Cabo de Gata have some fabulous marine life, reefs and numerous old wrecks. We usually experience the sightings of dolphins, pilot whales and even sea turtles. Both my daughter and myself enjoy painting and photography, the light is such a wonderful asset. Married to an Australian, we are often entertaining friends or family that are passing through Europe and they simply find the necessity to drop by for a relaxed visit. Last year I found myself in the situation of being able to purchase this second property - a very special villa, one that I had known and admired over time. Casa La Noria is quite unique, all one level with generous dimensions, it was one of the original villas to be built on a preferential plot, in the beautiful setting known as La Parata. The previous owner had spent a happy 35 years living there. Our own villa is very close to La Noria and when at home, I am always ready to help and be on call for any questions one may have.
What makes this Villa unique
Casa La Noria as it currently is - is very special! I work as an interior designer and in years to come there will be a few subtle changes, making the property even more desirable. You have to come and judge for yourself - Last year was my first year of ownership, the property was generously reviewed by six different clients, all giving it praise and the top score of 5/5. This year I am hoping to draw the interest of a wider clientele, as the winter climate can be most agreeable with temperatures reaching the mid 20Deg C, heating is provided by a log fire, air conditioners and radiators. The winter sun is perfect for day trips - site seeing the local towns and cities, mountain walks or even a venture to the mountains for a day of skiing. We have often spent time relaxing on the beach, swimming in the sea and the next day we are skiing down a slope. How many places in the world is this possible?

A great villa with sublime views. Well equipped and comfortable. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. A very peaceful location too. A big thumbs up from us (party of 7)
We have just returned from the most wonderful holiday at Casa La Noria which is perfectly placed in the gorgeous setting of La Parata. The villa is spacious, well equipped and gives you a choice of terraces in which to enjoy the sun or shade throughout the day. The views are stunning and the pool a perfect size. Most of all, the beds are sooooo comfortable...a must for me! We will definitely be returning. Thank you Rosemary for making us feel so very welcome.
This is a lovely holiday house.
If you want a spanish style house with plenty of space with sun and shade this will meet the criteria. I took my family of 6 adults plus three children age 7 months to 4 1/2 yrs Four big bedrooms each with there own style. Two with single beds which our hosts made into doubles at our request. Three bedrooms with ensuite with a fourth bathroom next to the one without. There are steps throughout the property as it is on different levels but these were no problem for the kids or adults. The living room remains cool during the day but has air conditioning if required. The is an indoor and outdoor dining area. We used the outdoor one apart from one evening when we ate late. This has lovely views over the pool area and the sea.
It also has steps to pool area with a wooden stair gate that can be secured there. There is another patio Which we used on the evenings with views over the mountain. It also has steps down to the pool area which we used most of the time. There was no gate here but The children were able to manage these safely. I was concerned about the pool as it is about 3ft deep going to about 7.5 feet. But my grandson who can’t swim was happy playing in it with his floats but always supervised. Pool towels were provided along with room towels which saved us luggage weight. You will need beach towels. We took a paddling pool for the youngest. The kitchen is large and fully stocked with all you properly need. There are three fridges, one just for drinks one with a freezer. A Dishwasher plus a washing machine.
we cannot complain of the support and help from the owner. Any problem we had, ie; one with showers and one with dishwasher were fixed the same day with no hassle. If you think of anything and wonder if it is available or can I do this, ask the question they are Very friendly hosts with plenty of offers to help. Foot pump provided for our blow up pool toys, even providing extra toys. Owners rating 11/10 if I could.
The villa is up on the hill at la Parata overlooking Mojacar. But I wouldn’t walk it with children as the roads are winding and narrow. In fact you need to be reasonable fit to walk to Mojácar especially on the way back as it is hilly, but with hire cars it’s no problem, A Resturant and residents pool is near by within walking distance but if anyone has difficult walking, the walk back up the hill may be too hard. In a car it about 1-2 mins away. This restaurant provided a lovely menu.
Heavenly we couldn't have wished for a better place to spend a weeks break in Mojacar
We arrived to a heavy down pour and hailstones!!!! Fortunately the villa didn't disappoint. Located midway up the mountain with views of the sea below and mountains above, lovely location, quiet and private. Fantastic sunrises from our bedroom and veranda. The villa was well equipped, comfortable, stylish and well furnished. When the sun did come out there was plenty of garden furniture set up around the garden and verandas for you to follow the sun and relax with a glass or two of Rioja.
Shea's Restaurant at La Parata is lovely, just a 5 minute walk if you don't mind hills. But most of the time we cooked at the villa as it was so well equipped and the Spain supermarkets were only a 10 minute drive down the hill into Mojacar Playa.
We couldn't have wished for a better place to take a break and decided to extend our stay for another 5 days. Plus we are already planning our next break here.
This is the first time we've rented a villa and found the whole process to be easy. The owner Rosemary Bentley returned emails speedily and took our calls. We'll definitely do it again.
The only negative was the weather as it was way colder than usual for January so the pool was just too cold to use, but the log fire was lovely and cosy. Kim & Phil Kent UK
A relaxing holiday in a location that was perfect for our family.
The villa has a nice traditional Spanish style but it includes contemporary features such as modern bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, air conditioning and TV. The wifi is aviailable but could be faster and more consistent. The swimming pool area is picturesque with lovely mountain views and an outdoor shower. Garden trees around the property provide some shade but another umbrella for the poolside area would be a benefit. Overall we were very happy with the villa and its location, as La Parata is delightfully quiet but only a short distance from the main tourist strip, beach and Mojacar town.
Thank you for your kind review. We are pleased to say that fibre optic has arrived at the La Parata, we now have to wait for the lines to be laid to our individual properties, only sorry it could not have been available for your stay!
So pleased that you and your family had a wonderful time and may I say that you were also superb guests. With best wishes RB
Pluses and a big minus
Our seven day stay at La Noria had many pluses and a big minus. The villa was perfect for our family of 6 and had a great view from the Eastern terrace. We enjoyed the comfortable living area with its fireplace and were happy to have a table to seat eight. The kitchen was acceptable and the pool was lovely to look at.
Our stay was marred by the lack of sufficient power. We had to continually flip the breaker for the first two days in order to maintain minimal appliances and heaters. Apparently there had been storms the week prior to our arrival, but at least 5 days of dry weather occurred before we entered the villa. Our relatives who own a villa in Mojacar did not have any such trouble and they were present during these dates.
We were told by the manager/helper that an electrician would be over to check things out the second day, but that did not occur. Several of us took cold showers and we could not use the oven to prepare our dinner.
While in Granada for an overnight stay, the electrician came and upon our return the power issues were much better. The owner's husband was quite apologetic after we returned from Granada, but that was a bit late. The bedrooms continued to be cold, but we honored the advice given and did not turn up the thermostats.
I would encourage the owner to add rugs to the bedrooms if the villa is to be rented in the winter. Cold floors are not expected in a villa of this level. I would imagine that a warmer month would be ideal for this rental.
A Partially Satisfied Visitor
IT was unfortunate timing and we were very apologetic to our guests, had they have needed anything extra it would have been provided. Rugs had been placed in 3 out of the 4 bedrooms. Unprecedented floods had hit MOJACAR the week before the arrival of our American guests which was during the Xmas holiday period. Two people drowned in a nearby village and it was the worst rain deluge in over 30years as reported in the local newspapers. Many people were without electricity for a few weeks as were some neighbours along with nearby homes damaged by flooding. Fortunately we had no flooding and had electricity restored to the property after a few days prior to guests arriving but not to full capacity as power lines had been severely damaged. We tried explaining to our guests the situation and it would be best not overload fuse board by putting too many electrical appliances on at the same time. The electrician came at his earliest, bearing in mind it was Xmas and others were much worse off, to find nothing wrong with property's electrics only a reduction in service. We later found the property had been functioning with both heaters blowing warm air and also air conditioners blowing cold which would have been a contributing factor. RB
The location of the villa is in the prestigious area, slightly away from the beach, known as La Parata. It is 1 km from the blue flag beaches of Mojacar Playa and no more than 10 minutes drive to the pueblo (village) of Mojacar. La Parata has a tranquil seclusion, it is nestled in the foothills of a range of mountains that gives Mojacar its special quality, this mountain range appears to rise up from the sea. There are a scattering of privately owned villas, mainly of moorish architecture, each one individual. This elevated position offers stunning views of both the coastline and mountain range. Within walking distance are couple of superb restaurant/bars that are extremely popular with both residents and non- residents. There is also a small shop for fresh produce. At the bottom of the hill, on the beach road, is a supermarket.
During the summer months La Parata remains quiet and private, distanced from the bustle of the beach and village yet still within easy reach. It is the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. Mojacar Pueblo is known as the corner of enchantment, consisting of a hilltop village of white houses, narrow cobbled streets and Moorish architecture. Recently, the village has been nationally acclaimed as amongst the most beautiful in Spain. The village comes alive, with music concerts, festivals and and there is an array of interesting tapas bars and excellent restaurants. The playa (beach) is lined with popular bars and restaurants, from April through to September there are live flamenco shows or jazz/rock/popular music concerts. Beach bars (chiringuitos) turn out local dishes such as paella and fresh fish on la plancha (the grill). The beach of El Palmeral offers numerous water sport opportunities. There is also a vibrant late night life which is most popular for the younger generation.
There are 5 golf courses close by. Two of these courses of both within a 10 minute drive.
MARINA GOLF - Par 72/5464 18 holes designed by Ramon Espinosa in 2000. Split perfectly in two with far reaching views over the sea. Dramatic 4th hole, par 5, with an elevated tee is the signature hole. 3 lakes provide water hazards.
MACENAS - Par 65 18 holes designed by Enrique Saenger in 2007 - Although a short course, requires concentration. Good shot making will be reward but undulating greens and numerous bunkers will make par a good score Each hole has its own challenges with varying levels of difficulty. Views across course and surroundings are equally impressive.
VAL DEL ESTE - Par 71/5391m 18 holes designed by Jose Canales in 2002. One of the Prime Golf Courses in Southern Spain.
CORTIJO GRANDE - Par 72 9 holes.
DESERT SPRINGS - Par 72/6179m 18 holes designed by Peter McEvoy. Magnificent fairways surrounded by creeks, desert and water hazards.
Geographically, we are located about 20 kilometres from Cabo de Gata natural park, a protected salt flat that offers surreal scenery, fauna and bird species. Closer still is the Tabernas Desert with its lunar-like terrain, its scorching wasteland. This is where the Moors surrendered to the Catholics in 1489. In more recent years it has been home to the making of many famous films as well as the Spaghetti Westerns. Mini Hollywood theme park is a great adventure for all the family. The closest city, Almeria, has a magnificent moorish fort (Alcazaba), the oldest in Spain, which is well worth visiting. The exquisite shopping along with authentic tapas bars in the gypsy quarter and smart pavement restaurants lining both sides of the Paseo de Almeria, make this an extremely enjoyable day out. The costa de Almeria region has a subtropical climate the only European city of this type with the average temperature above 19deg C. Mojacar has more than 3000 hours of sun per year and the medium yearly temperature is around 20deg C, in winter the average is around 18deg C max and 10deg C minimum. There are many other activities to be found close by - tennis, quad bike and cycle rentals, horse riding, trekking, various water sports, desert safari trips, fishing trips, water-park, go-karting, golf, hill walking, painting courses, yoga classes, gymnasiums, theme parks, retail therapy, site seeing in Cabo de Gata, day trip to Granada, are to mention just a few. Also, during the winter and spring months, skiing in Sierra Nevada is very popular, a 20 minute drive from Granada, this resort is the highest in Europe. Excellent wide pistes to suit even the novice. I have witnessed the breathtaking view from the summit of highest point, the Veleta, on a clear day one can see Africa and an expanse of the Mediterranean dotted with vessels.
