Good place - unknown rules
The place is great, although there is only one bathroom for 10 people and with the exception of the heater which is very loud and right next to a bed.
We made a fire and had marshmallows and even cooked beans on the fire but we were punished (on the refund) for burning wood that we did NOT know we were not allowed to burn.
Good place to stay, not too much to do during the winter time besides being inside and being careful with the wood you find to make a fire.
We found a great church in Bourbon, where we spent New Year's Eve. That was a PLUS for us!!! Thank you!!!
We do not usually provide firewood for a campfire on the property. We do allow guests to gather any down and dead wood from our wooded area's here.
But, we are always producing cedar wooden posts from the forest for fence post repairs. We do not allow taking and burning obviously prepared logs in a campfire.
So if you are anticipating having a large campfire we suggest you bring the wood needed with you. Also, campfire wood can be purchased in Bourbon.
Bourbon and the other towns in the area are small but treasures can be found and enjoyed.
Quiet and beautiful
This was one of the best places to stay for us. The Off-road park near by and the River floating was close which gave us a good time to spend with our grown kids. Sam was very kind.
This was a beautiful property. The drive out is scenic and roads are easily followed. The cabin was very clean and beds were comfy. Everything you needed plus more was available. Sam and Nora are great hosts, very friendly, and we enjoyed all of our interactions with them. There are goats to pet, a creek to explore, trails to walk on and a fire pit for smores. Thank you so much for opening your place to us and making us feel welcome. God Bless you both.
This place is AMAZING! The cabin is well taken care of and up to date. Sitting outside by the firepit, staring up at the stars with no city lights in the way, & listening to all the sounds of nature close by was perfect! Privacy all around!! The owner is very caring, accommodating, friendly, & just wants to make sure you enjoy every part of your stay. Country living at it's finest! There is no Wi-Fi & no service, so unless you are okay with time away from technology, this place is not for you. Occasionally we'd get a signal bar by standing on a rock or standing very still, lol. "Off the grid" or "out in the sticks" is the perfect way to describe this area. We will most definitely be back! Thanks Sam!!!
Wonderful home to get un-connected
This is a wonderful place to reconnect with nature and family/friends. One of the best aspects is there is little to no phone or internet connection--just warn the kids before you go.
Sam & Nora were wonderful hosts, doing everything they could to make sure our week-long visit was enjoyable. Sam came up to the house a few times to make sure we were comfortable and found everything we needed.
The house was perfect & with 4 bedrooms, we were able to have all of our grandchildren with us at the same time. 1 bathroom with 6 people was a little challenging, but it was totally doable. There were tons of movies for the DVD player and a lot of magazines for reading. With the outdoor fire pit, the kids had a fire almost every night with S'mores. of course. Sam & Nora's goats love visitors and Cheetos!! As soon as we opened the front door in the morning, they came running to see what the grandchildren were going to feed them :). The house is 2 1/2 miles from the Meremac River (great for tubing, rafting, kayaking); it's short drive to the caves and grocery stores.
This is definitely a place I would recommend if you're looking to get away to a quiet friendly place. Just be prepared to drive on a dirt road...it's in a fairly remote area, but a perfect setting to relax.
Thank you Sam & Nora for allowing us to stay & hopefully we will see you next year :)
Always a wonderful time!
We have been staying at this house for many years and always have a wonderful time! The house is clean and comfortable. We love the privacy and that it is really close to Riverview Ranch, where we rent canoes for our float trips. The owners are kind and accommodating. Highly recommend staying here!
We are located just 10 miles off Interstate I-44 and just 70 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. Six Flags theme park is within an easy drive. Taste the local grapes at any of the many world famous Missouri wineries located just a few miles 'down the road'. Missouri is called the 'Cave State' and there are several close by to explore! Maybe you yearn to hop on a horse and experience the Missouri Ozarks in this unique way. Trail rides can be arranged locally. Float the local lazy rivers on canoes or rafts. Or hike the many acres of woods and fields on the many trails in the area.
