Our home, Villa Sol y Luna is on the superb Playacar Golf Course and is located on the north end of the course. This makes our home ideal for walking to the beach, shopping, ferry to Cozumel, and all the wonderful restaurants and clubs in Playa del Carmen. A 5-10 minute walk puts you on the beach or in the heart of 5th Avenue, Playa del Carmen.

Our home in Playacar, Villa Sol y Luna, is a wonderful place to relax with family and friends. Our private home, gardens and pool are maintained daily by our caretaker, and our bi-lingual property management firm is available to assist you with any trips, transportation, or questions you may have. Our maid will take care of everything else, 3 times a week.

The Mayan Riviera and Playa del Carmen have everything to offer for a great vacation; White sand beaches, eco-parks, Mayan Ruins, gourmet restaurants, shopping, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, scuba, golfing and plenty of Mexican culture and hospitality.

Great home, great location

This is a terrific place to stay and a far more interesting way to visit Mexico versus an all-inclusive resort. It's a short walk to the beach and the many restaurants and bars of Playa. The house is in very good condition and the whole experience was super-nice.

Perfect Escape

A group of 6 friends, all mid 30s, had a memorable week here relaxing in the low key atmosphere of the house, enjoying the pool, the airy and spacious living space and the amazing proximity to the town of Playa. We felt like we were true village people, going local by the golf course, and a lovely 15min walk from the very center of the action. We would definiltey return

Playa birthday- love this place!!!

Our trip in March to playa and sol y Luna in particular was stellar as always. I've stayed at the house 9 times and am never disappointed. This time I took two friends-cor one, it was her birthday and first time out of the country; the other has been to Mexico but only to all inclusive resorts. This trip made a lasting impression- be it the home away from home atmosphere, flexibility to eat breakfast with our small group by the pool, float in the pool and chat just amongst ourselves with no distraction, or sit with our feet in the pool reading a book. Those things coupled with the expansive but not too big Mayan themed all tile house to the short walk to the white sand beaches, turquoise blue Caribbean and renowned Fifth avenue shopping, restaurants, authentic food and friendly playa servers, made this trip a dream birthday vacation for my friends and the usual relaxing trip for me. It never gets old. The only downside was that we had to return to the States, leaving us to figure out when we could return to this great hidden vacation home getaway. As the title says, love this place.

Fantastic house in perfect location

Villa Sol y Luna was much larger than the pictures show which was a wonderful surprise when we go to the home. The home was a bit musty when we first entered, but after opening windows and turning on the AC for a bit it was just fine. The house was built in 1998 and the furnishings, etc. are from that era. If you are looking for an ultra modern house this is not for you.

My girlfriends and I found the house to be more than accommodating with 3 separate bathrooms and showers made getting ready for an evening meal very easy after a long day at the beach. The kitchen worked fine for the few meals we made at the house. Again, this is not a home for huge dinner parties, but it worked just fine for making sandwiches and breakfast meals.

We didn't use the pool as much as a family with kids may have, but it was nice to take a quick dip and was a nice feature in the backyard.

I would highly recommend this property. The owners were very quick with responses and it is a great value in the safe community of Playacar. If you are looking to branch away from the resorts, this home is for you.

Great owners, house in need of TLC

First of all, let me say that communication with the owners was second to none! I have asked Cathy and Craig a zillion questions and they were always quick to answer and they also provided useful information regarding airport transportation, activities, restaurants, etc. As far as the house is concerned, I have to agree with the last reviewer that there are a few flaws and if you expect a luxurious rental, look somewhere else. No wine glasses, dishwasher not doing what it is supposed to do, linens and towels are very old, broken blinds, broken toaster, missing blender cover, master bedroom bath plugging, dishes, and worst of all, the very bad smell coming from the laundry area. The A/C was a little noisy but did the job! The day after our arrival, I emailed management to let them know that 4 lights were not working and that the screen patio door was falling apart. They came quickly and changed three lightbulbs but didn’t fix the patio door nor changed the swimming pool light. Would have been fun for evening swimming.

The maid did an excellent job and the pool boy kept the pool clean! But this guy lives right on the property and he could and did show up at anytime given moment during the day, even when we were enjoying the backyard! We did not appreciate that as we were under the impression that he would show up before 7 in the morning and only once a day.

Would we go back to this house? Absolutly, since we are not fussy people and we adapt easily. We think the price for 2 weeks was more than fair. It was quiet, relaxing, a short walk to the beach, an even shorter walk to 5th avenue, 20 minute walk to a major grocery store, the pool was great, so was the neighborhood and we never ever had a security concern. But we have to admit that the house and its content is in need of TLC.

A big disappointment -- I would not recommend this property

This villa is well located and the grounds have abundant flowers, trees, birds and wildlife. It is in dire need of improvements i.e. renovations. There was a very strong sewage smell when we arrived. overpowering smell of raw sewage. We opened the patio door thinking it was from the house being closed up. After about an hour, we realised that it would take more than airing out the house. The smell seemed to come from the laundry area closet and under the kitchen sink. The washing machine was totally rusted on the inside and a very foul smell was coming from it. We put on the air-conditioner thinking that might help, but it did not. As well, the air-conditioning units for the upstairs bedrooms are old and extremely noisy. Even trying to cool off the bedrooms before sleeping was like sleeping under a subway track!!!! After heading upstairs, we saw that the cupola in the roof of the 2nd bathroom was leaking. There was a puddle of water on the floor and a bucket in the closet near the bathroom. A clear indication that these problems are long-standing. We used the master bedroom washroom, which immediately got plugged. Tried the second bathroom upstairs...same problem. The master bathroom tub was always plugged, the cheap paint job on the walls bled every time we took a shower!!!

The property manager as well as the maintenance people had the same observations regarding your property: the toilets are a problem, the washer was finished a long time ago, the dishwasher doesn't work (basically falling apart) and the house is not well maintained. The linens and towels are threadbare. A diversity of chipped dishes and odds and ends. ONE wine glass. Dishwasher old and smelly and does not clean dishes. Blinds broken. Blender has no cover. The toaster was broken. The television which is a throwback to the early 2000's has a broken on/off button. The dining room chairs and sofa/chairs were obviously re-upholstered and have no cushion making sitting on them very uncomfortable.

After the first week, had it not been that my mother and son were arriving for the second week of our stay, we would have left.We did leave on Sunday January 12 and were very happy to do so.

In all fairness, we did receive a partial refund and the owners did try to fix the problems. But renting out a property that is not up to standard is irresponsible and did not make for a very satisfying vacation.

Owner's Response: Our guests in the Villa unfortunately arrived to find that our sewer pipes had broken underneath the house and thus the smell and drainage problems began the day of their arrival. The guests which had left 3 days before and those that arrived one week after had no such concerns and expressed their interest in renting again in the future. Several pipes, Toilets and the washing machine were replaced during this time frame and other repairs (such as the roof leak) are currently being carried out by our property managers. To attempt to remediate the difficulties these guests had with the foul odors - we refunded 50% of their payment and offered to assist them in finding another home or apartment for the vacation. We hope that all current and future guests will inform us and our property management group immediately when there are maintenance issues or items to be replaced.
