The Best of The Best

I've stayed in 3 other condo's at Kanaloa and 1603 is head and shoulders above the others -as is Kanaloa itself. 3 pools and impeccable grounds make this spot a slam dunk retreat for us. Richard is extremely attentive when contacted and his condo well appointed, reasonably priced with the best views the Kanaloa complex has to offer. Returning soon!

Outstanding Condo Experience

My husband and I stayed at Condo 1603 at Kanaloa in Kona from August 11-16, 2026. The owner, Richard, was very responsive before and during our entire stay. On our second day there, he had a lovely basket of local fruit and coffee delivered to our unit. In all of the places we have rented, we have seldom found such a helpful landlord as Richard. The view from the condo lanai is wonderful, overlooking a rocky volcanic coast with crashing surf and a well-maintained golf course. Sunsets were gorgeous!! The sound of the surf lulled us to sleep at night. The condo is clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed and good, clean appliances. There were plenty of beach toys and chairs, tennis rackets, etc. in the unlocked closet on the lanai. The king sized bed was VERY comfortable. Even though there were only 2 of us, we frequently found the second bathroom a real convenience. The master bath has the largest shower I’ve ever seen! Wow! The WiFi was reliable and we were able to connect to our streaming services on the 2 TVs. It’s a short distance from shopping and restaurants. This condo is definitely not beige and boring. You know you’re in Hawaii, thanks to local art and some marine murals commissioned by Richard. We loved those touches. This condo does not have AC. However, because this is a second story unit and the screen doors lock securely, we felt safe leaving the sliding glass doors in the living room and bedroom open at night. Ceiling fans and the ocean breeze made nights comfortable. A final note: The last part of our stay here was during Hurricane Lala. Because our flights were canceled, Richard graciously allowed us to stay as long as needed. While much of the island suffered major damage, this area was very protected, so that we never lost power, water or WiFi. We heard high winds and lashing rain during the night and early morning of August 15-16, but there was no damage, no flooding. We felt very safe. The next morning people were playing golf on the golf course. Thank you, Richard, for a wonderful stay! We would gladly stay here again. We highly recommend potential guests consider 1603 for their next Big Island vacation.

Beautiful Sunsets

Our family stayed here for 3 nights, and really enjoyed the location, views, and accommodations. We would definitely return to this condo. Richard was super helpful and communicative before and during our stay. The pictures don’t do this place justice. Even better in person!

Beautiful view and well equipped, clean condominium. The owner was very responsive and helpful. Our visit happened to coincide with a downstairs remodel so it was noisy during the day, but that won't normally be the case, Im sure. Would return...thank you!

Condo with fantastic ocean views

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 day stay! The location is fairly centralized for enjoyong a host of activities. Many dining and shopping options are minutes away. Snorkel and night Manta Ray tours are less than a mile away. Overall, you can't go wrong staying at this priperty!

It was everything we expected, have stayed in this complex before. Quiet location,shopping, very close. The swimming pools are never busy. The view is fantastic!

Great golf and ocean view!

We have stayed in this section of Kanaloa before and always enjoy it. This unit has a wonderful golf and ocean view and the owner did a great job communicating (even calling me beforehand to give me some helpful information). There was also a nice gift basket when we arrived for our two week visit. I would definitely stay here again.

Our stay in Kanaloa

The condo was very nice. We loved the area and enjoyed our stay. Not having air conditioning was not horrible but would have nice. I would stay there again. Hotels are not worth the money, but this condo was.

Paradise!

This was one of the best condos we've stayed in. The owner, Richard, was very helpful from the beginning. He had lots of great recommendations. The grounds of the condo were well maintained and we enjoyed the pools and views. I felt very safe there. The condo itself was very nice. We had everything we needed from laundry detergent, beach chairs and mat, snorkeling gear, towels, etc. We enjoyed the various fruit from the fruit basket we were given. We hope to be back to Kona and would love to stay here again!

Great Condo an Locati

Great location, clean, everything updated. Condo included extras for beach including chairs, umbrella, cooler, towels everything needed. Multiple Pools at resort were very nice. Owner was very accommodating and responded quickly with any questions we had. Highly recommend, great value.

Beautiful Condo

This one bedroom two bath condo was very well equipped and in pristine condition. The view from I was of the ocean, straight over part of the golf course. The owner has provided everything you need, including a well equipped kitchen and beach chairs, mass, boogie boards, etc. I would definitely stay here again.

Perfection

We absolutely love this condo!! It had everything you could ask for and more. Amazing location, GORGEOUS sunsets on the lanai, sound of the waves in the rocks, friendly and helpful staff, well stocked kitchen, beautiful property and thoughtful welcome basket! Richard and Gayle were so wonderful and welcoming and have done a great job as hosts. We LOVED the Big Island and really hope to come back and stay again soon!!!

Great location, listened to surf all night long. Well appointed, great accommodations. Doesn’t have AC but at least for us it was ok. The ocean breezes and floor fan helped. 😉

Nice!

Nice clean condo with beautiful sunset views over the ocean and golf course. Fully stocked with plenty of cookware, blender, etc. Was also happy to find some spices, oils, foil, paper plates and some condiments (we've stayed other places where those items are removed after each stay). The small ice chest and beach chairs came in handy and even some snorkel gear and tennis rackets. AC would have been nice but the fans do work pretty well. The property is nice maybe a little dated but maintained.

Can't go wrong staying here

Really enjoyed my time staying at this condo. It was me my wife and my daughter. A Murphy bed made into a nice room for my daughter. The view and the sunset makes the place. It overlooks the 12th hole at Kona country club which made it easy to play with the golf course twice. The host is very acomadable and we'll get back to you if you have any questions. It was humid while I stayed there, but the place has plenty of fans to help keep you cool at night. There is a good place to snorkel only 5 minutes away where we were able to see turtles and there is plenty of places to eat a mile away. I would recommend staying here if you're visiting Hawaii and you have four less people.

We will return!

We have been coming to Hawaii for over 40 years. The condo and location exceeded our expectations. The lack of A/C was a non-factor- Trade winds were fine (and this was August!) and the Lanai is large with a lovely ocean view. A well-equipped condo- especially the kitchen and the unit is nicely decorated. This is perfect for a couple who does not want a opulent resort vacation. Has an enormous master bathroom- always a boon. The facilities are good- nice oceanfront pool and tennis courts. The location is very quiet which suited us perfectly. Nice walking neighborhood, and close to neighborhood beach and local grocery stores. The owners graciously provided a welcome basket- a first for us. We will return!

Amazing!!

We loved this condo! Amazing location! It is steps away from the ocean. The lanai looks out on the ocean and over a golf course. And we had the best view of sunset every day. It was perfect for our family of 4. Our 2 young kids slept in the Murphy bed in the living room, which was very comfortable. The master bedroom and bath are spacious and updated. The kitchen was the most well stocked kitchen we have ever seen in a rental. There is no AC but it’s not needed. The condo is well ventilated with fans and the cool ocean breeze keeping the doors and windows open. The sound of the ocean waves hitting rocks is loud which we love and will miss. The owners are very welcoming and responsive to any needs. I already shared this link with my family who is now planning to stay here in the near future. And we will definitely be returning!

Best family vacation

This condo was a dream vacation for us. Every night we enjoyed the best sunset... all the colors glistening on the waves straight from our lanai. Condo is very clean and well kept. Beds are super comfortable. We are family of 3 and our son had a very comfortable murphy bed (wall unit that we put away during the day..super easy). Kitchen is very well setup for cooking multiple nights at the condo. Condo also had good beach chairs and umbrella. Even though we were there in hot and humid time, condo has ceiling fans plus the ocean air from lanai made the temp perfect. There are some decent eateries, good grocery anda lovely book store plus other shops walking distance. Keauhou bay is walking distance too...they have fun manta ray tours and snorkeling tours right from Keauhou bay. We enjoyed golfing with the ocean views and it was so convenient to walk to the country club. Last but not least Richard and Gayle are the most generous hosts. We had an artisan packet with local fruits, coffee and treats waiting for us when we checked in. Checkout is at 11am and we had a late flight out of Kona, but Richard and Gayle let us stay till evening without additional cost. It felt like we are staying at a family's condo. We highly recommend staying at Richard and Gayle's condo if you are in Kona.

Great Condo, but fair warning.. no AC in this unit

We visited in September and didn’t realize there was no air conditioning in this unit….(there were ceiling fans and, most helpful to allow us to sleep, two pretty small but powerful fans)..lesson learned to inquire about that next time! :( …Still giving a “5” star because the condo provided everything else that was needed for a wonderful stay. The king bed was super comfortable. The master had a HUGE area to shower with double shower heads. There was plenty of room to store/hang our clothes. The kitchen was stocked with every possible need (plates, pots/pans, cups, insulated mug…just to name a small portion of items provided), and we had all that we needed when we went for a beach day (chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear, sand mats). To top off the fully stocked condo… the VIEWS WERE PHENOMENAL and the condo “grounds” (can walk off of the golf course along the ocean to watch the beautiful waves crashing against the rocky shore) and pools were absolutely beautiful. I’ve only noted the information about the absence of AC because I didn’t see this information in the VRBO listing (may have been there… I just didn’t remember seeing this information). A cool shower each evening, sliders open in the living and bed rooms, and the fans did allow for a good night’s rest.
