About Carolyn McGarry

4th generation owner of this beautiful property. I grew up working and living on Block Island each summer and met my wife out here.

Why Carolyn McGarry chose Block Island

While our house was built by my father in the late 1980's, my family has owned this land and the surrounding property for almost 100 years. We took over ownership of this home about 10 years ago, making improvements each year. We enjoy spending time with our our own children here each year as well as gathering with grandparents, siblings and cousins who own the adjacent houses. Our home is located on one of the highest points on the North end of the island - which affords us beautiful ocean views of the North end of the island, including the North Light.

What makes this house unique

The location of our home is perfect for those who want a peaceful ocean/North Light view getaway with modern amenities - all within a stone's throw from some of the best walking trails on the island. Walk down the driveway and you find the entrance to Clayhead Trail ('the maze')...walk across the street and you find the entrance to the Hodge Preserve...walk down the hill and you find the entrance to the Labyrinth...continue down the hill and you are at Sachem Pond, Settler's Rock, the North Light and the tip of the island. All within a few minutes walk of our home.

The house itself is easy and breezy...first floor open floor plan with updated kitchen, dining area, huge, sunny great room. Our large wraparound deck has multiple seating areas - chaise lounges, rockers, conversation area, hammock - all perfect for outdoor living and entertaining. Private master with balcony for your morning cup of coffee overlooking sailboats going by off the point. And lower level has three more bedrooms, bath and laundry for more guests or children. The huge yard is ideal for kite flying, wiffle ball or tag...and our kids created an outdoor fire pit to roast marshmallows after dinner. We take pride in making our home an inviting place for us to entertain our family and friends as well as sharing it with renters, many of whom return to our home year after year.
