About Patrick Mc Cormick
I am a former UNICEF spokesperson based in New York and Geneva. I have spent many years in Italy, mostly Rome and Florence and speak fluent Italian. My partner and I share our year at Villa Joya in Florence and Villa Joya in Carriacou, Grenada, the Caribbean. This villa is also featured on Homeaway.
Patrick Mc Cormick purchased this Villa in 2014
Why Patrick Mc Cormick chose Gavinana
Very peaceful while only 10 minutes from the bustle of Florence. In the very hot Florentine summers, you can escape to the Villa and its pool and shade.
What makes this Villa unique
Its countryside location, just 10 minutes from one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Wonderful food, people, shopping and gorgeous art galleries.

Amazing property - photos don't do it justice!
Villa Joya is an exquisite property! Very comfortable, with lots of different places to hang out, and just spectacularly designed. The photos do not even give you a true picture of how incredible this property is - there is a gorgeous outdoor shower attached to the master bath, so it has total privacy but is open to the outdoors, the kitchen is really nice and well-appointed, all of the furniture is super comfortable and the bathrooms are gorgeous. We've rented houses all over the world, and I can honestly say Villa Joya is the best place we've ever stayed. We were very happy here and are planning a return visit!
Only caveat: Rent the smallest car you can comfortably fit in, because the roads around the villa are VERY narrow. We had an Audi Q5 and it barely fit down the road (which are two-way!) with the mirrors turned in. If it had been an inch wider we wouldn't have been able to get to the house. It's charming and part of the experience of the Italian countryside, but definitely not what we're used to in America. It's about a 10-15 minute drive to the center of Florence, also, so you'll be paying for parking every day if you're planning to visit the city a lot. It's not really walkable.
Fantastic property, gorgeous house, great amenities, lovely and attentive service - you will not be sorry if you stay here!
Dear Holly, thank you for your review and we are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Villa Joya and look forward to seeing you again, and possibly at Villa Joya in the Caribbean villajoya.co
You are right about the roads. When we first moved in I had many scrapes coming in and out of the villa. I now take full damage insurance. It's worth it. Or, you can take taxis. But, as you say, the villa and its setting wouldn't be the same without those beautiful narrow lanes and the villa has ample parking space.

Outstanding property. Well maintained. Excellent views with everything needed to have a great visit. Property manager went out of way to assist with every need. Highly recommend
Thank you for these positive comments and we are very happy you enjoyed your stay at Villa Joya.

Stunning, Luxary, Paradise
My girlfriend and I came to Villa Joya for a week in October. In my opinion, the photos don't do the property justice - we felt utterly enchanted when the gates to the villa opened. The view of the hills at sunset took our breath away. The outside areas were beautifully furnished and so glamorous! The first evening we enjoyed our complimentary pasta and prosecco while watching a movie outdoors selected from the huge DVD library. Everything was utterly sumptuous, from the bed linens, to the sleek bathrooms. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the quiet and luxury to sightsee Florence! The owners left a great book of recommendations as well as a gift of an unusual insider guide to the best restaurants and off the beaten track ideas.Villa Joya has to be the nicest villa I have ever been lucky enough to stay in!
We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back at Villa Joya.
A beautiful Villa.
What a lovely Villa, we could have been miles from anywhere but actually only half an hour's walk into Florence, and we enjoyed the good walk back up the hill! The view across the hills from the outside dinning terrace was fabulous but what a shame we couldn't see it from the pool area because of the hedge.
All the rooms were good as were the bathrooms and showers.
We all enjoyed sitting outside late evening and watching a film.
The only negative (and it is a small one)It would have been nice to have been given good instructions to find the Villa and warned of the very narrow road leading to it and the tricky
narrow entrance, we did book a jeep but luckily got a smaller car!
Many thanks for your review and noted about the instructions to find the villa. We hope to see you again at Villa Joya.
Stunning Tuscan Retreat!
Our family spent an idyllic week at Villa Joya. It was perfect in every way! Plenty of outdoor space for morning coffee, afternoon cocktails and alfresco dining. The views are amazing, the location was ideal and it had every amenity imaginable! One week was definitely not enough! We are already looking forward to coming back!
Thank you Stephanie, and we are look forward to seeing you back.
Al fresco heaven!
The expectation created by the photos was more than matched by the reality. The location - so close to Florence but in the hills above the city is truly privileged. We enjoyed the bustle and history then escaped back to the tranquil al fresco lifestyle that the Villa and it's gardens enable. Would recommend that you hire a compact car as the roads are narrow!
Happy to hear you enjoyed Villa Joya and we hope to see you back in the near future.
