The Hideaway has been welcoming visitors looking to 'spread out' and relax on their vacation to this quaint town for years.
Our home was built in the 1800's and has stood the test of time and brings repeat visitors back year after year. We're located in a quiet peaceful neighborhood just 2 1/2 blocks from Ludington Avenue (the main street of Ludington) and just five blocks from the marina, lighthouse and large public beach that makes Ludington famous.
With its large size our home is great for large and extended families or friends looking to get together. Need a smaller unit? Contact us for details on renting just the upper or lower unit. We'll be happy to talk to you and explain these options.
Downstairs features lots of room with three bedrooms (king, queen, double), a spacious living room, formal dining room, large kitchen, laundry room and bath making it perfect for families, extended families or groups of friends.
The upper level consists of an eat-in kitchen, living room, bath, king bed in the master bedroom and a second bedroom attached to the master that consists of four singles beds and room for sleeping bags or air mattresses. This is perfect for couples, couples with small kids, or friends looking for an affordable way to enjoy Ludington.
Each year, visitors leave comments about their stay in a book for them to leave their memories. One thing is certainly true: the saddest part of the trip is when it is time to go. They love their stay in our home and enjoy the many wonderful options that are in walking distance to them: downtown and its shops, restaurants, bars and antique stores, the public beach, the lighthouse, and marina. Visiting the State Park is a seven mile beautiful bike ride with the water on one side and sand dunes on the other.
With an ice cream store and downtown in walking distance, kids love the ability to seek-out adventures or a scoop of ice cream on their own.
Each morning and evening, you'll hear the Badger car ferry sound its horn and if there is a bit of fog in the early morning or late at night, you'll listen to the sound of a lighthouse letting ships know where it sits.
We hope you'll enjoy your vacation in about as relaxing a place as we believe you'll find anywhere.

Great spot near downtown
Nice property in a great location. easy walk to downtown. Nice quiet neighborhood.
Thanks for the kind review. I am glad you enjoyed it. We enjoyed having you and appreciate you choosing to stay at The Hideaway of Ludington. Come back soon!
A winter work assignment, the "village" of Ludington, a well appointed kitchen, and rapid response to a need for repair pointed out the advantage of the get-settled process. Easy parking. I had the whole lower 1/2 of the house which included laundry out the kitchen door. Easily would have slept 3 couples, and entertained far more.
Stayed here with some girlfriends. We had a great time. We enjoyed that it was walking distance to downtown and close to lake.
We enjoyed having you. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed the location!
A Nice Stay with Lots of Pluses
We choose the Ludington Hideaway for an off-season getaway. The weather was mostly terrible, unfortunately, but our short stay was still enjoyable thanks to The Hideaway and proprietor Mike's welcoming attitude.
The Hideaway itself is a late 19th C. house but it has been updated nicely and is now an interesting mix of rustic and modern. The only limiting room for us was the small bathroom (with cast iron tub!) but we didn't have use of the upstairs where there is another bathroom for those renting the whole house. The kitchen, on the other hand, is spacious and modern with nice appliances. Most rooms are good sized including the bedrooms with plenty of closet space. The smallest bedroom is bigger than it looks in the picture also. It does take awhile though to figure out where all the light switches are located; I think that's why it's called The Hideaway ;-)
The central location, just a few blocks north of Ludington Ave., is great for access to everything. As another reviewer mentioned, The House of Flavors restaurant/ice cream parlour is particularly close which is great if you have kids (they will want to go there all the time). The Jamesport Brewing Co. is only a few blocks further south which is great for dads (who will want to go there all the time :) And beautiful Ludington State Park is only a 10 minute drive away.
A few additional pluses to this property: 1) the internet service is very good and easy to access. 2) the cable TV selection is pretty good too. Both are a big bonus when stuck indoors due to bad weather. 3) the parking right behind the house (lower unit only) off the alley is private and convenient which is especially helpful at arrival and departure time.
We had a very nice stay at The Hideaway and hope to visit again in the future.
3rd straight year!
My family and I have stayed for a week for the past 2years and loved the experience. We're getting ready for year number 3. Not a lot of amenities, but for the price it far exceeded our expectations. The "Hideout" room is a big hit with my kids and a fort/bedroom and we had my wife's friend and her 3 boys stay with us for a couple of days last year as well. All were comfortable and the kitchen easily provided ample breakfast and dinner prep space. The best feature is obviously the location...right by one of the best city beaches in the midwest and minutes from the State Park (one of the best places on earth) Downtown is blocks away, especially the House of Flavors ice cream store which became a nightly habit quickly. Not luxurious, but very functional. If you want beach-front and luxury than you should be prepared to drop at least another 1,000 dollars. For the price, one of the best values for a vacation I've ever had. The fact that we are looking forward to our 3rd straight year says it all!
Hideaway is a Homerun!
Our stay at the Hideaway was not just a hit but a homerun. Our family of 5 along with my sister's family of 4 stayed for a week last Summer. The house is simple but has all the necessities, character, and charm you would expect from a house over a century old. The kids (ages 2-6) especially loved the big hideout room in the upstairs and used this as their "fort", playquarters, and bedroom. One night all 5 of them had their own sleepover in this room.
Even though we had a couple days of rain and cooler weather on our trip, we did not spend a lot of time in the house because the Hideaway served as a perfect home base for exploring the coastal towns of Manistee and Pentwater on those rainy days.
We spent the sunny days at the City Beach which was a 5-10 minute walk or the State Park Beach which was only a 10 minute drive. After dinner our nightly tradition was the short walk down the street to the House of Flavors for ice cream followed by a walk to the waterfront park or lighthouse for the sunset.
I would recommend the Hideaway to anyone looking for a fun, clean, well maintained and economical vacation destination on the Lake Michigan Coastline.
Located just five blocks from the main beach, a favorite activity is to walk out to the lighthouse, which is at the end of the break wall that creates the entrance to the marina.
Rates & Availability
Additional information about rental rates
We are open year-round. Contact us for renting just our upper or lower unit. Rates vary over the summer in both our lower and upper units but the amount quoted for a specific week is usually very close to accurate. For both units, the summer months run from a low of $1800 to a high of $2550 for the week of the fourth of July. Most weeks fall around $2300 to rent the entire house. We rent by the week Sunday to Sunday. In some cases, we only have availability left in our upper unit (usually around $750 in summer weeks) or lower unit (usually around $1550 in summer weeks). We are open year round and keep our calendar updated as much as possible. The only additional fee to the main price is a 2% fee added. That is the "out the door" price.
