Hoonah, Alaska is a small community located in Port Frederick (accessed by Icy Strait), on Chichagof Island. The culture of Hoonah is deeply rooted in its Alaska Native people and traditions. This sleepy community has in recent years grown with the addition of a port for commercial cruise liners. Point Sophia is a renovated cannery which serves as a stop for cruise ships, touring the inside passage. While this commercial point is a place of interest, even more so are the endless miles of logging roads surrounding Hoonah. Deer, brown bear, and other wildlife abound on these roads as well as some of the most remote and scenic mountain passes beaches and bays in the world.
Hoonah has a grocery store, hardware store, as well as several restaurants. When one travels to Hoonah, it is usually connected to the area's incredible fishing (fresh and saltwater), hunting (deer & bear), wildlife/marine viewing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, or touring among the various coastal Alaskan communities. Water taxi, fishing and hunting guides, and road tours are all available in Hoonah. Hoonah is located directly across Icy Strait from Glacier Bay National Park. Most visitors reach Hoonah via small plane service out of Juneau, Alaska. There are two services that have several scheduled flights each day to Hoonah. Both are based out of the Juneau Airport. You may also charter a plane or take a scheduled Alaska State Ferry from Juneau to Hoonah.

The cabin was cozy and warm. It was well equipped with seasoning and kitchen gear. There were plenty of blankets and tons of movies to watch. Had a great time!
We appreciated coming back to this great cabin every night. It's cozy and clean and perfect for a Hoonah home base. The private bedroom and loft offered multiple, comfortable beds, and the hot showers, TV, and wifi were appreciated. We also enjoyed a little bear viewing from the deck. We hope to stay again!
Good location,! fool bedroom firs floor, second floor no qualified for bedroom, step step walk up,.no batheroomupstaires, morenlike camping room.
Its listed as 1 bedroom!
Close to center of the city,
Worth a week of blaming! FF
We loved our stay in Hoonah! This cabin was wonderful with a mountain view from the front porch. We went kayaking with Cody (Fairweather Kayak Tours), whale watching with Billy (Wooshkeetaan Tours), and bear watching in the evenings. Quite an adventure!
The place was clean and absolutely adorable. Fit all six of us very comfortably. We had a wonderful time and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The cabin was very nice and spacious.
There was plenty of room for the 8 people in our party. We didn't have any issues running out of hot water. The beds were comfortable. It is located on top of a hill on the edge of town; which is nice. Great view from the porch. Would stay here again. First choice when coming to Hoonah!

small and beautiful but large enough. would love another bath but not sure I could afford it.
Bear wandering down the street, viewed from the safety of the porch. Used the turkey fryer to cook the crabs. Didn't have time to fill the tank, will get it next year. they only fill on Tuesdays. Still plenty in the tank for lots of crab cooks. Deer on the lawn most mornings. Clean and everything works. Good kitchen, enough beds for 2 couples or one with kids.

The cabin is exactly as described.
Had an amazing time at the hideout for the second time. The cabin is very clean and has everything a person could need while in Hoonah. There were more than enough of fresh towels for the 4 of us. The cabin is walking distance to airport, "town", coffee shop. A car would be needed if you want to go "out the road". This was my second time here and I highly recommend. Don is very easy to make contact with and a joy to deal with!!!!

Just outstanding!!!!
My son and I arrived and the cabin was perfect. Prettier than the photos, lovely wood, nice furniture, everything a person could need while in Hoonah was stocked. My son who lives on Hoonah enjoyed the cabin beyond words. The views out the front deck are awe inspiring. The cabin was very clean, bright, cheery. Loved the animal pelts! Thank you for sharing your cabin!!!!!!

Just right!
Hoonah is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy island living in southeast Alaska. And Hoonah Hideout is a perfect place to stay. The kitchen is fully equipped. The knives are sharp too! We brought a car on the ferry from Juneau which helped us get around but the taxi service and lots of walking could work too. In town the roads are mostly paved on the main streets otherwise it is gravel and lots of them wandering all over Chichagof Island. The cabin has one bath with a shower. Washer and dryer and dishwasher. There is one bedroom with a queen bed on the main floor and a large sleeping loft with a queen bed and three twin beds. The ambiance is very Alaskan with pelts and antlers, cushy seating with many windows and a covered porch to enjoy the view of mountains, Eagles, woodpeckers and hummingbirds. A great base for hunting or fishing excursions or just relaxing at 20 mph. Helpful if you bring provisions from Juneau though the Hoonah Trading Co has a good hardware and groceries with frozen meat and some produce, eggs and milk.
