Perfect for families! Charming historic 'early Tahoe' home on spacious grounds offers a unique experience blending luxury, historic charm and private lakeside living. Enjoy a glorious setting with 120 feet of lakefront and a big lakeside deck for splendid outdoor living. On a beautiful West Shore point, the historic Tahoma Boathouse offers sunrise to sunset panoramic views over vast Lake Tahoe. Sunlight warms the house, deck and beach until sunset--the latest sun on the West Shore. Far from the main road, it is quiet and peaceful, and no traffic noise intrudes. Just steps from the lake, a huge hot tub seats 8 people. One buoy is provided for your boat.
Live the early Tahoe glory days! The Boathouse was part of one of Lake Tahoe's earliest estates which was constructed beginning in 1906. Authentic antique details and decor embellish the original pine plank paneling on all walls and ceilings throughout the house, with a tasteful mix of antiques and fresh furnishings. Stone, oak, cherry floors with soft oriental rugs; four antique wood stoves. The home offers several view-filled living areas, a large country kitchen/dining room, a wrap-around deck connecting them, three bedrooms and an attached 1 bedroom apartment on the lower level. The house is completely updated with thermal pane windows, insulation, natural gas baseboard heat, and tasty local well water. Two rustic cabins are included in the rental.
Spacious forested grounds with historic, huge outdoor stone fireplace and patio furnished with cedar log furniture, an outdoor ping-pong table, level lakeside lawn, expansive 2,500 sq ft. upper lawn with badminton net and lawn games, and a sand beach along the 120 foot of lakefront give lots of areas for playing and relaxing. Relax on chaises on the lakeside terrace above the beach. Rocking chairs, dining tables and chairs, sofa, and grill are on the lakeside deck overlooking the water. Feed the ducks and geese from the historic boat ramp that slopes into the water.
Appropriate for discerning guests who love early Tahoe and who will appreciate the historic authenticity of the home, the house is fully equipped for gracious entertaining. We are sorry to announce that we no longer are accepting weddings. This is due to a wedding that refused to cooperate in lowering sound volumes to the moderate level we require. The home, property, and neighborhood are inappropriate for groups who wish to party, and we must respect our neighbors.
The property is accessed via a narrow lane a block off the main road. The long paved driveway and gravel turnouts grounds offer plenty of parking for up to 10 cars.
Leave your cars parked--our guests love the short stroll to the country market with its great deli sandwiches, groceries and wine selection. You'll find a pizzeria, coffee bar, gelateria, and post office in the neighborhood. Hike and bike on trails leading to Sugar Pine Point and Emerald Bay state parks with beaches, national forest, Desolation Wilderness. A meandering paved bike path makes its way along the shore to Tahoe City, down the Truckee River all the way to Squaw Valley. One mile from Homewood Mountain Ski Resort--for fun family skiing with great lake views. Launch your boats in Homewood, and water ski in the calm waters of the West Shore.

Remarks from our guests:
--We love your place! It was our first time in Tahoe and this property really made it a memorable stay. Not only the charm and comfort of your home, but the excellent location and outdoor facilities. We spent many luxurious hours in the hot tub and enjoyed the lakefront and stone fireplace so much! We had some people over that come to Tahoe regularly and they want to stay here the next time they come. Thanks for all of your help with our plans and for the memories!
--We were all so impressed with how thoughtfully the house was stocked with anything that we needed...My daughter's highlight was learning to do the monkey bars (above the captain's beds) all by herself...It was very comfortable and easy to be all together in your beautiful home. You have a spectacular place and we all feel blessed to have experienced being here.
--Another wonderful vacation...It must give you such satisfaction that so many lucky people enjoy this place...It's truly a dream vacation. The highlight of this year was seeing a big beautiful brown bear...Thank you for sharing. (a repeat guest)
--We were here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our mother and father...we all enjoyed the warmth and coziness of this lovely home. We enjoyed the view, we enjoyed the hot tub, we even enjoyed the big bear that walked through the property on the day before we left! How wonderful it was to be in such a beautiful place for such a wonderful week....Your home is part of a memory that will live with all of us forever.

Owners Kristen and Steve Flance love boating at the lake, shown here at the helm of the classic Thunderbird. They winter in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they share their home with Yogi & Bear, their Bernese Mountain Dogs, and summer at Lake Tahoe. Steve, a native of St. Louis, has many years of experience designing communities, and recently completed the Hills and Villas at Bishops Lodge, a lovely resort community above the historic lodge. He has managed the development of major hotel properties in Santa Fe. Kristen manages both of their vacation rental properties. She is a 5th generation Californian whose son Adam also grew up spending summers at the lake with his grandmother, Carolyn Hecathorn, who bought the Boathouse in 1963. They enjoy sailing vacations, including bare boating in the Caribbean, and love spending time at their Tahoe haven.
Kristen purchased this House in 1963
Why Kristen chose Tahoma
One of only a few remaining original boathouses at Tahoe, the property was purchased by Kristen's mother in 1963. Kristen grew up helping her with its remodeling, and Kristen and Steve have continued improving the place with love and great attention to detail. Flower gardens and lawns embellish the exquisite lakeside setting. We love sailing and boating on the lake, and enjoy barbecuing and dining on our lakeside deck, a lovelier setting than any restaurant on the lake. Fabulous sunsets and starry skies make for romantic evenings listening to the water lapping the shore. Roasting marshmallows in the grand old stone fireplace is a family tradition. Our ancestors began summering at Lake Tahoe in the early 1900's, and Tahoe time continues to be an important part of our lives. We have active lives in Santa Fe (and another historic vacation rental there), and we enjoy sharing our treasured Tahoe haven with guests who appreciate its unique early Tahoe charm.

WONDERFUL week in paradise!
The BOATHOUSE was the perfect place to stay for our family reunion. Really appreciated the owners attention to detail with instructions. It was the BEST VIEW I have ever seen in Tahoe~~~It felt like it was "OUR" lake as we looked out to the beautiful blue. Looking forward to our next stay there.
Iconic Lake Tahoe summer fun!! The outside deck overlooks a pano shot of the lake and your private beach. Kids and adults had an amazing time that we will never forget. Fire pit was a hit for after dinner activities. No need to go anywhere when it's all there for you!!!
A wonderful Old Tahoe experience in a one-of-a-kind lakefront home with exceptional care and attention by thoughtful owners to ensure your complete satisfaction. We have enjoyed many fantastic summer vacations at the Boathouse as well as the most memorable wedding for our daughter. This home easily accomodates large groups of family and friends whether you are casually relaxing or formally entertaining.
Our Wedding Week! July 22-27th 2010
The Boat House was Amazing!
We had our entire wedding party stay at the house starting on the 22nd until our wedding day on the 26th. We woke up every morning to beautiful lake Tahoe. A typical day would include kayaking or paddle boarding for a few hours, lounging in the sun to dry off. Making a simple breakfast and all eating together on the huge deck. Playing lawn games (boys) and leisurely working on wedding details (girls). Most of our family and friends made a long weekend of the event and stayed at the Tahoma lodge, right across the street, so throughout the day family and friends would come over to enjoy the lake, lawn games, wedding details, or cocktails! If we needed a snack before dinner we walked up to the PDQ market for fabulous homemade sandwiches. By the evening we would start preparing the cocktails for the night and making dinner. The deck is perfect for large group dinning, and the kitchen and dinning area inside worked perfectly for serving yourself. We ate as a big family every night! Each night ended with a relaxing dip in the spa.
The wedding day.... well it was perfect. There is not many places in Tahoe that you can marry on the lake with the privacy of just your friends and family. We took pictures on the neighbors dock (need to have permission) which turned out so pretty. I cannot say enough about this location for a wedding or any event for that matter.
We would have paid double, triple, quadruple the price for staying in such a beautiful place. Lorene, the care taker, is super nice. She even came the day of the wedding and directed guests down to the house and parking (nominal fee). Kristan Flance was so nice, and helpful. She even made note of our wedding colors and planted flowers around the property to coordinate!! How amazing!! There is no other place on the lake like this!
My family had its Reunion...
My family had its Reunion at Lake Tahoe and the Boat
House was the perfect location for many of the
activities! We had many meals on the deck and a
fabulous "dance" party on the upper patio. The views
of the lake can't be matched anywhere. Thanks for a
wonderful Family Reunion.
Bask in the panoramic views of Lake Tahoe! Swim in the lake along our 120 feet of lakefront and warm up in the huge hot tub. Rent a kayak or SUP locally or a power boat nearby, wake board and water ski in the calm waters of the West Shore, explore Sugar Pine Point State Park with Tennis Courts and Beach. Paved bike trails go south to Sugar Pine Point and north around the lake to Tahoe City and Squaw Valley, get a picnic at the deli--big delicious sandwiches--and take off for a great Tahoe day!
