About this property

Gîte de Sernier - SAINT-CHRISTOPHE-EN-BRIONNAIS

Anne-Marie and Philippe, passionate ambassadors of their homeland (born in the house!), welcome you to a charming, traditional Brionnais farmhouse built in the 18th century, steeped in history and fully restored. Nestled in the peaceful heart of a typical small rural hamlet, a mix of agriculture and residential life, on the edge of the village of St-Christophe-en-Brionnais (with local shops), renowned for its iconic Wednesday livestock market dating back to the late 15th century, one of the oldest in France. Enjoy absolute tranquility and a picture-postcard setting in the heart of unspoiled rolling countryside (protected as a ZNIEFF area for its rich flora and fauna), bordering pastures (where, in season, the famous, peaceful Charolais cows graze as their privileged neighbors) in the heart of a bucolic bocage plateau. A truly enchanting and beautiful landscape. A haven of peace and tranquility, offering complete soothing and restful relaxation. This comfortable cottage, with its slightly vintage feel, exudes a charming, old-world charm. Its gentle rusticity is perfectly complemented by meticulous heritage restoration (stone fireplace mantels, lintels and an old stone sink, an unusual bull's-eye window, the arch of an old oven, period beams, etc.). A large, sunny courtyard (a veritable natural pétanque court) features a terrace area opening onto a pleasant garden with mature trees, complete with a swing, a ping-pong table, and a small vegetable garden tended by the owners (who will not be present during your stay). Enjoy superb, unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside. Composition: Detached house. Wi-Fi (fiber optic). Electric heating + wood-burning stove. Ground floor: kitchen, living/dining room, shower room, separate WC, laundry room. First floor: 3 bedrooms (one double bed 140x190cm / two single beds 90x190cm / one double bed 140x190cm), shower room (shower/WC). 800m² grounds (courtyard & garden) + garage (1 parking space / bicycle storage) + private parking. Small shops including a grocery store 1.5 km away. Amenities including supermarkets 10 km away. A peaceful little corner of the countryside immersed in the heart of the sublime Brionnais bocage, a stone's throw from one of the most "iconic" villages of Saône-et-Loire! Authentic charming traditional farmhouse dating from the 18th century, steeped in history and fully restored, nestled peacefully on the edge of gentle pastures, in the heart of a small, scattered rural hamlet, on the outskirts of the typical market town of Saint-Christophe-en-Brionnais, emblematic for its famous weekly "Livestock Market" dating from the end of the 15th century (one of the oldest in France, a literal spectacle in itself dedicated to the local Charolais star!) and 10 km from the market town of La Clayette (numerous amenities on site including supermarkets) nestled in an amphitheater on the banks of a 30-hectare pond bordered by a majestic medieval castle (dating from 1380), a heritage jewel of Southern Burgundy! Total peace and tranquility in the heart of the rolling countryside, a magnificent preserved setting mixing agriculture and nature (protected as a ZNIEFF for its rich ecosystems), nestled in the hollow of a vast plateau of bucolic wooded meadows, dotted with ponds and rivers. Ideally located on the routes of numerous marked footpaths, including several "green walks" (a vast network of similar hiking trails to explore on foot or by mountain bike) and the "Cycloroute71" (tour of Saône-et-Loire), very close to the Romanesque churches circuit, 5 km from a marked mountain bike route labeled "VTT-FFC" (linked to a vast network of similar routes crisscrossing the Brionnais region), 16 km from the "Véloire" Green Way along the banks of the Loire (the last wild river in Europe protected as a "Natura 2000 Zone"), 25 km from a greenway along the Canal du Centre (linked to the EuroVelo 6 cycle route as well as the "Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo"), about forty kilometers from the first vineyards of Beaujolais (the first vineyard in the world recognized as a "UNESCO Global Geopark") as well as the Côtes Roannaises, and about fifty kilometers Côtes Mâconnaises ("Burgundy Wine Route" & Beaujolais Wine Route to explore). Privileged location at the southern tip of Burgundy, not far from the first wooded foothills of the Beaujolais Mountains (including the Montagne de Dun, rising to 708m, steeped in legends), in the heart of the superb Charolais-Brionnais territory, labeled "Land of Art and History" – land of livestock farming & traditions, birthplace of the AOC of the world-renowned cattle breed – at the crossroads of the Allier, Loire & Rhône departments, at the intersection of the Sologne & Montagne Bourbonnaise, the Roannais region, the Mâconnais-Clunisois region as well as the Beaujolais region. Perfectly located for exploring several departments: 11 km from the medieval village of Semur-en-Brionnais, awarded the prestigious "Most Beautiful Villages of France" label; 15 km from Marcigny (renowned for its Monday morning market, established in 1266); 18 km from the charming town of Charlieu; 18 km from Chauffailles; 24 km from Paray-le-Monial; 25 km from Charolles; 33 km from Digoin (a river marina nestled at the confluence of three renowned canals, including the famous Canal du Centre); 39 km from Roanne; 43 km from Beaujeu (the historic capital of Beaujolais); and 54 km from the illustrious abbey town of Cluny. An ideal haven of peace and tranquility for a relaxing "green getaway" and a "timeless break" with family or friends!
