Amazing Casita

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three had an amazing week at Alan and Barbara's beautiful casita. It is a fantastic place to stay for the price. The unit is well furnished, the kitchen complete, the beds very comfortable, the bedding high quality, and the bathroom very nice. Alan and Barbara are lovely people, and we so appreciated all of their useful tips and advice. The pool is amazing, the location is fantastic. We really cannot say enough. Loreto is a very special place, not for everyone, thankfully, but perfect for us and we cannot wait to return

Marvellous Loreto Beach Front Jewel

  • 5 of 5

This two-bedroom casita is simply beautiful - and the pictures - lovely as they all are - actually do not do justice to the real thing. We had a wonderful one week stay here for our first visit to Loreto - our experience of this lovely town truly enhanced by being so perfectly located on the beach but so close to the town and its wide variety of restaurant and shopping opportunities. Alan and Barbara were throughout very accommodating and ready to assist in every way. Great place - highly recommended. We will be back!

Beautiful piece of paradise

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful spot for 2 sunny weeks in November.

Things we loved : the warm welcome and orientation tour from Al & Barbara

- very comfy beds, lots of bedding, towels

-the pool is amazing and very private.Would never know the owners were right there

-the house itself was lovely but was starting to show its age. As a vacation rental owner myself I know the importance of regular checks on the condition of the home & contents. Barb was happy to hear my comments & I am sure the issues were addressed. Nothing affected our stay , but were minor annoyances.

The town itself is amazing, small, friendly & easy to navigate. We thought we could get away with not renting a vehicle, but if you want to see anything, you need one. Alternatively, you can always hire a taxi to take you around . If you do rent, make sure you get an SUV so you can get to the cool beaches.

Things to watch for:

- you cannot walk to town on the beach at high tide without getting wet. So either wear your beach shoes, or take the road. You need beach shoes for the stingrays

-you cannot sit outside at night without being eaten.

-there is no recycling, which was hard. You can separate your cans and set them aside for the garbage guy. The owners did not mention this even after I asked, & after watching the garbage men paw through our garbage the first week, I thought there must be a better way. Be kind, save them the gross job

-dogs , dogs everywhere. If this makes you nervous, this is not the place for you

-you cannot flush toilet paper...anywhere. We were not told this up front & only after I asked for more info on the home did I find out. Bring some doggie poo bags from home to deal with this discreetly.

I gave this property a four star rather than a 5 for 2 reasons: I found the information leading up to the trip was lacking. I like to know everything, as I am sure many folks do. Perhaps it is the laid back Mexican way, but when I am paying a high price for a place ( keep in mind this is in US $$, I am from Canada) I expect a certain level of information. My advice is to save EVERY piece of correspondence right from your original inquiry. We had a bit of an issue due to miscommunication on the part of the owners & it made for an uncomfortable start to our vacation when we were about to be over charged for something that was previously arranged.

The second thing goes back to the maintenance issues. This can be a 5 star place.

Owner's Response: Well, I guess a great trip was had according to the first half of this review. I am dumbfounded on the last part. So I can only suggest that anyone reading it note what she did love and move on to the mountain of 5 star comments we have had from others and of course more recent guests.

Amazing Property on North Edge of Loreto

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to Loreto and decided to spend our 25th anniversary there. It is remarkable town, and we loved our stay in the guest house on Al and Barbara's wonderful beachfront property. They were great hosts, as soon as we arrived Al took me for a quick orientation ride around town while my wife took a post-flight nap, was great to get his take on restaurants and see where the grocery stores and bank were located. Getting pesos from the ATM is a must, many wonderful restaurants and other businesses do not take credit cards and you don't want that to limit your options. The restaurants in Loreto were just incredible, and it has made it hard to eat much of the Mexican food back here in the States. My favorite was La Picazon, about four miles north of town on a dirt road and off the grid so bring your pesos - amazing food, setting, and friendly service, an incredible oasis with welcome margaritas after a beautiful hike out to Doctor's Point. Definitely take the time to drive up into the mountains and visit Mission San Javier, while there be sure to check out the olive trees and irrigation channel down the hill behind the Mission. We enjoyed kayaking with Sea Kayak Baja Mexico off the beach just south of Puerto Escondido, an amazingly beautiful protected harbor, and will do a longer kayak trip when we return. We were lukewarm on the newer Loreto Bay development south of town, lots of Americans and Canadians stacked in newer homes surrounding a golf course, but nothing like the warm authenticity of Loreto itself. Our highlight of the trip was when Al arranged for a panga (small boat) to pick us up on the beach in front of the house. Captain Francisco quickly had us in the middle of a school of playful dolphins, then we watched manta rays flying through the air, checked out the sea lions as we circumnavigated Isla Coronados, caught a sea bass, then pulled our panga onto a white sand beach for some snorkeling and hiking. Francisco had a keen eye on the weather and dropped us back at the house in the early afternoon about 20 minutes before a strong north wind blew in and kicked up some serious chop. All in all, we absolutely loved our Loreto experience and highly recommend this property, you will not be disappointed!

Lovely Loreto

  • 5 of 5

Loreto is indeed a Magical Town - a stunning combination of natural beauty and authentic Mexico! We had a wonderful stay at Alan and Barbara’s beachfront property. The guest casita is very spacious and fully equipped. While a car was useful to explore areas outside of town - we enjoyed the short walk along the beach into town to try the amazing restaurants that Alan pointed out to us on a tour of the town when we arrived. A return visit is already being planned! Thank you for your gracious hospitality! Debra
