If you don’t mind a 45 minute drive to places each day, this is a wonderful option for a trip to Mammoth Cave NP, Cave City, Horse Cave, etc. We found plenty of fun family activities around but also enjoyed our time relaxing at the house. Our kids and their friends LOVED the basement “apartment” they had with bunk beds, TV space, table for games, a separate bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenette. My only suggestion for not choosing this house would be if you’re planning on a lake vacation. We walked down to the docks to check out the lake just to find it completely dried up. Luckily, that wasn’t the purpose of our trip so we had fun exploring the area where the water used to be but that would have been a huge bummer if we thought we were doing lake activities.

Hi! Thank you for being such great guests, and we are glad you enjoyed the caves and surrounding area! The basement really is so fun for our younger guests. I’m sorry that it took you so long to get to the caves…it’s about a 10 minute drive to the Mammoth Caves visitor center if you use the route with the Green River ferry, which opened for the season in March.
As for the lake depth, the Army Corp is in charge of water level and they fill it back up enough to reach our dock around the end of April, so plenty of time ahead of summer lake visits :)
Great property for a family vacation. The kids all enjoyed crashing in the basement and exploring the property. Beautiful weekend with everything we needed!
We enjoyed our stay & our trip to mammoth caves. There was plenty of room for our two families. It even gave us nice areas to break away from each other when littles needed to nap. Would return.
Great house. Beautiful screened in porch with comfy chairs and a great view. Quiet private road. Close to a convenience store. Close to boat dock for boats and kayaks at the dam which was quiet and beautiful. Gravel drive is very steep. Walkable boat dock but many many narrow stairs.
Our daughters and their families meet us each holiday season at a convenient location.
This home was very well maintained and communication with the owner was prompt and concise.
We had 13 family members and there was ample space for everyone. We would highly recommend this for a getaway!
Jon is an excellent host. Easy to communicate with at all times. We really enjoyed our stay for our visit of Mammoth Cave National Park. The house is very well organized. Feels like new!
We had a fantastic stay at this spacious house near Mammoth Cave National Park over the Thanksgiving holiday in November of 2023! Our party included six adults and four children, and the house accommodated us perfectly. The kids really enjoyed their own space in the bunk room. The house was incredibly nice, well-stocked, and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the fire pit for relaxing evenings. The drive to Mammoth Cave National Park wasn't too far, making it a convenient location for exploring. We would definitely rent this home again if visiting Kentucky. Highly recommend!
We had a really incredible time. Baby and toddler and teens alike- meeting in the middle between atlanta and Detroit - it was a great spot. The best was just having the big fields to play corn hole together under the wide summer sky and setting sun. Swimming in the little cove lake felt like our own private hidden spot, everyone jumped in with their clothes still on, just great memories were made. Thanks so much. Love the strawberries growing and just the beauty of the Kentucky hills.
New, clean, nice location if you are looking to be away from the city, noises and enjoy a peaceful time off with your family.
internet is not existing, very slow, not much of TV channel, was not able to watch the NFL games, we were not happy with mowing the lawn with very loud lawn mower right by the window at 7 am. Too many instructions and penalty for almost everything including the garbage.
we enjoy our time at the property, great peaceful location, nice balcony, grill and fire pit. if the above concerns were to be addressed we will not mind going back.

Hi Maan,
We always appreciate our guests' honest reviews, so thank you for sharing your thoughts! We are glad you enjoyed the property.
We are sorry the internet didn't seem to be working for you; we haven't had problems with it in the past and we have an extender in the basement to help with the wifi signal down there. If you had reached out, we could have reset the router remotely or helped troubleshoot. We are always quick to respond.
We don't have cable, and don't advertise that we do. The smart tvs have access to streaming services you can log into with your information.
Seeing as our home is in a secluded location, we cannot be picky about the mowing every two weeks. He has done it for years for the property. We've never had anyone else complain about it or say it happened at 7 am. It was very disappointing to hear that a member of your party cussed him out for doing his job.
In regards to the instructions and penalties, we have a guidebook that we always send out and encourage to be read as soon as a reservation is made so guests can double check they're okay with everything included/expected. There is plenty of time after receiving it to cancel with no penalty if the rules are not to your liking. The garbage bins are a big deal because if they are not placed at the bottom of the driveway and emptied on trash day, the next guests will be unable to throw trash away. It is a beautiful place in nature, and trash can be gone through by animals if not properly stored. If the trash bins aren't down for trash day, we have to pay to have it hauled away by a company. Hence the rule/fee if not respected.
The rules keep the house nice and "new" for all future guests, just like you mentioned you liked in your review.
Again, thank you for staying. Stay safe & healthy!
Our main objective was to see Mammoth caves National park. It was about a 45 minute drive to Mammoth Cave NP. We are a large family from Florida with 10 adults and 4 kiddos (2,4,8,13 years old). The home provided plenty of space for all of us to sleep and relax. Nobody felt cramped. Rooms were very clean and spacious. The downstairs was perfect for the kids. The house itself was beautiful and updated. They provided a lot of amenities and everything was labeled. We enjoyed the fire pit and they even provided the firewood. They left us a nice s’mores kit that my kids were so excited for. At night, we got to see fireflies and in the morning we saw a Doe and her baby! There is also a friendly cat that loves to visit. Boots quickly became a family friend. This was a perfect gem for our family vacation. Overall, I highly recommend and will most likely come back for another stay! Jon is an amazing host and communicates very quickly. He obviously put in a lot of effort for the comfort of his guests.
There were only a few drawbacks to this property. The road going out is very steep and we were thankful to have AWD. The property isn’t really on lakefront and you couldn’t see the water. The cleaning fee was a bit steep especially for a family that likes to return the property as clean as they found it. Negatives aside because the positives outweigh them. Mammoth Cave is less than 20 minutes when taking the ferry. Your navigation apps won’t direct you this route so you need to know how to navigate to it. It’s quite simple. Played golf at Shady Hollow and Park Mammoth. If you’re going to play golf try both. We loved the hiking at Mammoth Cave. The house was very relaxing and the screened deck was the perfect spot for morning coffee and reading a book. We loved our evenings around the camp fire, too and appreciated the supply of fire wood. The open space concept in the family room/dining/kitchen was great. There was plenty of room and we didn’t feel crowded. The view was nice as well. This is just an overall good space to relax. The owner responds very quickly to questions and truly wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay and that we did. Nice job!
The house was perfect for a family gathering. Plenty of space and seating indoors and out for cooking, eating, playing games, watching movies, throwing the football, and sitting around the fire. Very clean, beds were very comfortable, and the house was well stocked! By well stocked I mean everything, kitchen utensils, toilet paper, fire wood, marshmallows roasting sticks, pens for playing games, ice etc. Besides food and drinks we also brought our own spices(my husband loves to cook) games (they also have many at the house) and a Bluetooth speaker. I only wish we could’ve stayed longer!
We had a group of 11 for a long friends/family weekend. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots, pans and miscellaneous cookware. The whole place was clean and well represented in the pictures. The host was quick to respond when we had questions before and during our stay. We would totally stay here again!
Our family had a wonderful time!
Everything was beautiful and clean , lots of things to do in the area. Owners are very nice and responsive to any issues
We enjoyed our stay. We took trips to both the parks. The house was beautiful and clean. It was a fantastic set up for families. Nolin Lake was low so no fishing in early spring here. Will have to make a trip back a bit later in the spring/summer.
This place was perfect for our family to get some relaxing time away. The space was clean and perfectly setup. Everything was communicated with great detail. The owners responded very quickly to any messages and had great tips on things to do. There is a steep gravel hill to get into and out of the area so make sure you have a capable vehicle. Our trusty minivan had no problem.
Our stay at Nolin Lake was fabulous! The home is beautiful and clean and the the owner is quick to respond when contacted. The location is great if you want a mix of some relaxing lake time and adventures in the caves. We liked the area so much we plan to return in the future!

About the host

Our family loves the water. We can spend all day out in the lake. It started in 2008 when we bought a junker boat to see if the family would love the water and boating. Fast forward 12 years and we bought a vacation home on the lake so we would always have a place to stay and park our boat. We wanted to share this with others and hope that you see our home as your vacation home as well.
