About this property

Creek-side cottage in secluded mountain setting, centrally located, easy access.

Nestled in nearly 5 acres of wooded terrain, Creekside Cottage is a serene getaway tucked into a private and secluded mountain setting, amid hemlock and rhododendron, where visitors relax in a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere surrounded by nature.

Easily accessed off scenic highway NC-9, the property is centrally located: just 10-15 minutes from boating and hiking at Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, and 20-30 minutes from downtown Black Mountain, Asheville, Hendersonville, Biltmore estate, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and several other celebrated hiking trails. Each area has its own personality with unique restaurants, cafes, artisanal shops, thrift stores, galleries, wineries, breweries, and coffee houses. If you like horse exhibitions, the Tryon International Equestrian Center is only a 45-minute drive away.

Far from the crowds yet relatively close to everything, our cabin is truly a great place to unwind after enjoying all the surrounding areas have to offer or to simply stay in and disconnect from the world for a little while.

The cottage features a comfortable open floor plan interior. You'll find a fully equipped kitchen, comfy king size bed in a spacious bedroom, washer/dryer, and double sinks in the bathroom. Crack the bedroom windows and listen to the soothing sounds of the babbling brook as you fall asleep. Outside, you'll find lots of options to relax – swinging in the screened-in porch while listening to the creek, chilling on the sun deck, rocking on the front porch, lounging in the garden, or warming up by the fire pit while taking in the cool evening air.

The home is equipped with fast and reliable Wi-Fi Internet via a state-of-the-art fiber optic backbone installed just a few years ago, delivering plenty of low-latency, high-speed bandwidth for all your work and recreation Internet needs. An Amazon Echo smart speaker provides easy access to music, news, and weather. Openly visible video cameras monitor the outdoor areas for security purposes only.

The cabin sits in the tranquil and wooded community of Broad River, a subdivision of Black Mountain, “the little town that rocks” (https://exploreblackmountain.com). With its welcoming and walkable downtown and inviting town square, Black Mountain has many unique shops, art galleries, museums, coffee parlors, breweries, an authentic old-fashioned general store, and over a dozen restaurants, all just a 20-minute drive from the cabin. The treelined, curvy roadway that will get you there -- Highway 9 -- is perfectly paved, impeccably maintained, and just downright fun to drive. Along the way, you'll find a large grocery store, gas station, and everything else you'll need to make the most of your stay.

In case you're wondering how far shops, gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. are from the cottage, here's a bit more info of what you'll find nearby along the routes to the nearby towns of Black Mountain, Hendersonville, and Lake Lure. All three towns are special in their own way and are roughly equidistant from the cottage but in different directions. Each area has its own personality with unique restaurants, eclectic shops, and breweries/wineries. You should be able to use your GPS to map any of the places I've named below, but there's so much more to see than I can possibly name here.

I should mention that I deliberately omitted Asheville from this list – even though it is only about a 30-minute drive away – simply because it is already Western North Carolina's largest city and the area's most popular destination.

BLACK MOUNTAIN (NORTH): The exquisitely quaint, casual, and pet-friendly town of Black Mountain (https://exploreblackmountain.com) has a really neat and walkable downtown with its inviting Town Square, unique shops - including an authentic old-fashioned general store, art galleries, and repurposed train depot - museums, coffee shops, breweries, and dozens of restaurants, all just 25 minutes from the cottage. A short drive from downtown is the picturesque Lake Tomahawk Park and the hiking trails of Montreat. About a mile or so before you reach the downtown area, you find Artisan Gourmet Market and an Ingles gas and grocery store, which are about 13 miles (23 minutes) from the cottage. The town of Black Mountain is a must see, but it's just a bit tedious to drive to because of the twists and turns you'll find heading northbound on beautiful Hwy 9.

LAKE LURE (SOUTH, THEN EAST):
Just 15 minutes from the cottage, you'll find one of the area's renowned hiking destinations: Chimney Rock State Park. If you continue through Chimney Rock Village eastbound on hwy 64 for another five minutes or so, you'll reach Lake Lure’s Washburn Marina, Morse park, and the beautifully restored lake beach area, all of which are a must see. Continuing past the marina, the scenic drive will become a bit more windy as you circle the lake, driving past eateries and shops, on route to an Ingles gas and grocery store on the far southeast end of Lake Lure, roughly 11 miles (23 minutes) from the cottage. If you're into horses, driving another 22 minutes south on hwy 9 and then east on hwy 74 will bring you to the amazing Tryon International Equestrian Center, with all sorts of family-friendly events going on year round.

NOTE: This route will take you through areas which experienced some of the worst damage brought on by Hurricane Helene in September 2024, including Bat Cave, Chimney Rock Village, and the Flowering Bridge. Though recovery has been slow and is still a work in progress, the roads are greatly improved and businesses have begun to reopen, determined and delighted to welcome visitors back (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LexfLIabIYc). Please consider making the trip to show your support!

HENDERSONVILLE (SOUTH, THEN WEST): The closest and most conveniently accessed gas station is 10 miles away from the cottage heading west (southwest) on hwy 64, where you'll find an Exxon right beside Griffin's Grocery & Cafe. Continuing westbound along hwy 64 another 20-25 minutes will bring you to Downtown Hendersonville (https://www.romanticasheville.com/hendersonville.htm), a chic and casual-upscale area that we just love. As the second largest downtown in Western North Carolina (second only to Asheville), downtown Hendersonville has all sorts of shops, restaurants, galleries and even a pinball museum along the pedestrian-friendly half-mile Main Steet, as well as lots of other eats and breweries less than a mile away. It's well worth the trip if you've got the time. Three miles shy of the downtown Hendersonville area on hwy 64, you'll find the largest concentration and assortment of recognizable franchise shopping center stores and chain restaurants, as well as numerous fast food options. You'll also find in that area multiple groceries and gas stations, all about 15 miles (25 minutes) from the cottage, including (you guessed it) another Ingles grocery store.

NOTE: It's worth mentioning that, in terms of ease of driving, I prefer going to Hendersonville to run errands because there are fewer twists and turns compared to the drives into Black Mountain and Lake Lure. Honestly, though, I look forward to visiting each of these areas every time I'm at the cottage and I know you will, too.

I had a wonderful stay at this little cottage. Tucked away with plenty of privacy. Check in and communication was easy and the cottage itself was immaculate. Comfy bed and nice big bathroom. My favorite part was sitting on the screen porch in the morning and at night because you can hear the stream and birds. It was incredibly peaceful. There is a fire pit just off the porch which is convenient. We will definitely be coming back!

The cabin was great. It’s in a beautiful area; there are houses around, but very little noise or traffic. The hosts were communicative and easy to work with. I want to come back to see all the rhododendrons in bloom.

We really enjoyed our stay during the 4th of July holiday at the Creekside Cottage (#5). It was located in a secluded mountain area, about 25 min drive to the town of Black Mountain and 15 min drive to Chimney Rock village. The cottage was very clean, well equipped and tastefully decorated. It was very peaceful. We enjoyed our evening time in the screened porch and listened to the sounds of nature. It was also pet friendly. We brought our dog Sammie, who had a great time. The check-in was seamless. The host Tony and Maria were very responsive and timely in communication. We received the detailed document highlighting everything we needed to know about the cottage and the area a week in advance. We highly recommend this cottage for those who love nature, secluded mountain cottage, and peaceful neighborhood.

We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary at the cabin, couldn't have asked for a better place! We had 4 days of rain, but found plenty things to do. We recommend Blowing Rock, Waynesville, Hendersonville and Black Mountain. Chimney Rock is great, but still some building taking place and roadwork.Maria and Tony are wonderful!!! We lost power one day while out and Tony immediately let us know so there was no surprise when we got back. The cabin has everything you need.. beautifully decorated, all kitchen appliances you could possibly want. The swing on the porch is great, and because of screening, no bugs.Thank you Maria and Tony for sharing your home with us and giving us great memories for this anniversary!!!
