About Sam Hunt
I have been coming to Kiawah since 1962, when my parents bought a house on the Island from Mr. Royal. It was a jungle island then, with a rickety wood bridge, dirt roads, 12 houses on Eugenia Avenue by the beach (many are still there), and incredible nature. We have loved Kiawah and the Charleston area. There is never a dull day.
Sam Hunt purchased this House in 1996
Why Sam Hunt chose Vanderhorst Plantation
Our house is a sunny, comfortable, refuge next to quite lagoon on a quiet street. Waking up each morning and seeing the fish jumping in the lagoon out of the glass bedroom sliding doors is a beautiful start to the day.

We had not been to Kiawah in several years, but this house was in a setting that was as relaxing and quiet as the Kiawah I remember. The island has grown in properties exponentially since our last visit, but this peaceful setting on a small lagoon was quiet and relaxing. There is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy, and when the mosquitoes get bad you can go into the screened porch as well. We loved being able to sit outside and listen to all the birds, and we did see one small gater in our little pond. We even had a deer walk up and look over at us sitting outside before it got spooked and ran away. We love biking the island beach and paths and having use of the garage on this property made for an easy bike storage where we could keep our bikes and easily ride out every morning without worry about wet bike seats. Any questions I had were rapidly answered by the property manager who was very prompt in responding to all my questions and concerns. Overall this was an excellent property that I would recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.
Great home in perfect location
Just as promised and then some. Idea property for relaxing, walking, biking, golf and beach too! Highly recommended!
Wonderful, peaceful home
Our time in Kiawah could not have been better! The house was a perfect set up for our family and was absolutely beautiful. We loved sitting on the porch overlooking the marsh. So peaceful and refreshing. Sam was extremely attentive and provided us with great detailed information. I was so appreciative of his prompt responses to my inquiries.
Great house in a great location. We have stayed here before and will again in the future
Our Special Place
We have returned to Kiawah and 23 Marsh Edge Lane for our 7th year. We always enjoy our time at Kiawah with the wide beautiful beaches, the bike paths, the Bohicket Marina, the wonderful dining venues, and nature all around, but, most of all we really enjoy our time at 23 Marsh Edge Lane. We are always comfortable with all of the conveniences of home and of course we love sitting on the screen porch in the cool morning breezes, watching the nature all around and then in the evening we enjoy relaxing on the screen porch listening to the sounds of the night birds. We find new things to do on each visit and cannot wait to return again. This is a special place. Thanks Sam....
The house is a lovely place to spend your time at Kiawah! We loved the view from the lanai and the screen porch. The location makes it a great place to launch your tour of the island: close enough to easily get to a marsh lookout or the Sanctuary!
Kiawah and its beach deserve their world class reputations. The ocean water is comfortably warm but still refreshing from June to September, there are often great waves for body surfing, the sand can’t be beat for sand castles, and kids love the tidal wading pools. The island's 30 miles of bike trails meander though all sorts of habitats. Of course the island includes its renowned, award winning golf courses and tennis facilities, and there is a wonderful children's camp filled with daily activities and excursions. Guests may join the Nature Center’s walking, van, bike, canoe, kayak, and boat tours and other activities. The upscale Freshfields Village, with its excellent grocery store, coffee shops and other stores, is nearby. A marina with deep-sea fishing and sailing charters are located at the nearby Bohicket Marina. It’s easy to get to Charleston. Family style and fine restaurants are located on the island, just off island and, of course, in Charleston, only 24 miles away.
