About Sam Hunt

I have been coming to Kiawah since 1962, when my parents bought a house on the Island from Mr. Royal. It was a jungle island then, with a rickety wood bridge, dirt roads, 12 houses on Eugenia Avenue by the beach (many are still there), and incredible nature. We have loved Kiawah and the Charleston area. There is never a dull day.

Sam Hunt purchased this house in 1996

Why Sam Hunt chose Kiawah Island

Our house is a sunny, comfortable, refuge next to quite lagoon on a quiet street. Waking up each morning and seeing the fish jumping in the lagoon out of the glass bedroom sliding doors is a beautiful start to the day.

A great time

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with the house and its quiet location. The décor in the living room was very comfortable, just right for our family. The master bedroom is really pleasant and light, with it's own TV, access to the deck, and a great view of the lagoon. The master bath is spacious, and includes a large Jacuzzi. We loved the comfortable, open design of the living room, dining room and kitchen- perfect for socializing and relaxing together, and the large dining room table was a real plus. The kitchen was equipped with everything you would want for cooking and serving.

The deck was great, quiet and with a view of the lagoon, which is only 30 feet or so from the deck. We rented bikes and had fun biking around the island. There are well-maintained bike trails everywhere, and the terrain is flat- just our speed. We especially enjoyed biking on the beach. The house is not within walking distance of the beach, but it was easy to bike there, just 7 or 8 minutes through some pretty areas. We would definitely return to this house again.

Absolutely Awesome

  • 5 of 5

Amazing house and island. My family and grandchildren had an AMAZING week together in this home. The bedrooms are spacious, the screened porch was great that the children played games in. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking necessities . It's just minutes to the beach.

Oh; I can not forget the Outdoor Shower, WOW everyone waited in line to shower there, it's awesome.

My family and I are already planning our next vacation stay there.

Thank you for allowing us to stay.

Another Wonderful Spring Visit at Kiawah

  • 5 of 5

We have been enjoying 23 Marsh Edge Lane for about 5 yrs now and it is always such a pleasure to arrive and so enjoyable inside and out. Our master suite was so comfortable and since the master bath has been redone and it is a welcome retreat at the end of each day. The kitchen is a pleasure to prepare the meals in and if you should be entertaining then the dining room is just what you need. We do love the screened in porch and each evening we sit there and listen to the whippoorwills call to one another and of course the expansive deck, overlooking the beautiful lagoon is always welcoming anytime of the day. We experienced so much nature this last trip from the deck, a raccoon,a bobcat, an alligator, impressive pileated woodpeckers and hawk challanging each other and of course the beautiful osprey in the tree. Just magical there on Kiawah and we always enjoy our bike rides through the extensive bike trails and on the beautiful wide sandy beaches. We are always thankful for such a delightful time at Kiawah and look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful spot - responsive owner

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week on Kiawah Island and had a fantastic time. The house is well located on Kiawah. Updated kitchen and master bathroom - kitchen had great appliances and well equipped with everything you'd need. The house had extras too - they had beach chairs, umbrella, extras that saved us from having to rent those items. I definitely recommend renting bikes for the entire week. This was our favorite activity on the island. We went for daily bike rides and had plenty of opportunities to see wild life on every trip (deer, alligators, pelicans) and get a bit of exercise in. The beach is a short and beautiful bike ride from the house. We spent many evenings just sitting on the porch listening to creatures splashing in the marsh and enjoying the quiet. We also went on a dolphin cruise and saw plenty of them too! We had a couple of snafus with the house, but only minor items and Sam was immediately on it and made everything right. Overall great family vacation, great host and comfortable house for a family.

Kiawah and its beach deserve their world class reputations. The ocean water is comfortably warm but still refreshing from June to September, there are often great waves for body surfing, the sand can’t be beat for sand castles, and kids love the tidal wading pools. The island's 30 miles of bike trails meander though all sorts of habitats. Of course the island includes its renowned, award winning golf courses and tennis facilities, and there is a wonderful children's camp filled with daily activities and excursions. Guests may join the Nature Center’s walking, van, bike, canoe, kayak, and boat tours and other activities. The upscale Freshfields Village, with its excellent grocery store, coffee shops and other stores, is nearby. A marina with deep-sea fishing and sailing charters are located at the nearby Bohicket Marina. It’s easy to get to Charleston. Family style and fine restaurants are located on the island, just off island and, of course, in Charleston, only 24 miles away.
