Good location!Kitchen was well equipped and decoration of the house was cute.Unfortunately, We could only find one paddle for two kayaks and the kayaks were in the bushes so they were covered with mud in the inside.

Enjoyed our stay

We've stayed at this property before and enjoyed our time. We have a boat and access to the lake is very convenient and easy. Has all the essentials and is a nice place for a small group to get away to Lake Anna.

Cozy cottage for a midwinter getaway

Heron Point Cottage is clean, comfortable with a beautiful view of the lake. It is well supplied with wood for the fire pit and is a great place for star gazing. Perfect for a couple or small family.

Fishing Trip to Lake Anna

This property fit all our needs. The kitchen was well-stocked, the bed was comfortable, and cottage was cozy. There is a restaurant a couple miles away as well as a grocery store. We were there to fish, so the proximity of the boat ramp to the cottage was perfect. We have already booked this property for our Spring trip.

The lock to the front door is not working properly…when we arrived it was pouring rain and we couldn’t get the key pad to work. There wasn’t a key under the mat as described, but there wasn’t a lockbox (that didn’t open easily and I had to guess the code which was the same as the keypad). The keys were “sticky “ and it took a few minutes (in the pouring rain) to get the door to open. We did get the door open but then couldn’t remove the key from that lock. Ultimately we had to go to a hardware store to get graphiite spray to remove that key (2 days later)…bottom line the lock needs to be replaced

It was our 25th anniversary. 25 years is diamond. This lake view cottage was a true gem!! Clean and bright. Lake view was breathtaking. We will be back.

Great view, lovely place, plenty of outdoor seating! Some cobwebs inside and bugs but we were also there in the fall so this is to be expected. We enjoyed the kitchen supplies and utensils. The home was perfect for us because we wanted peace and a dog friendly home, this location delivers! There is a shared driveway with another property and Marina and this house is a walk to the lake. But it was a well mowed walk, and not very busy. 10/10 would recommend!

Nice property with caveats

Overall, the property is well decorated, it was generally clean, the kitchen has what you need with nice appliances, and the host was generally responsive. We enjoyed the visit to the area and the location worked for our needs. The kayaks were nice to have and we did make use of them. We are grateful for the opportunity to rent this property at a time our family, with our small dog, needed a getaway and it served that purpose and was convenient to the lake and local restaurants. However, rentals are a business and we feel it necessary to share our experience. We did run into many friction points that really stacked up and this review is a reflection of our cumulative experiences. Most of the issues were not worth a phone call or simply were a bigger ask than an immediate fix. Some were just visual detractors from the total experience. The house is not as close to the lake as the description might imply but it is a super short walk. You can see the lake water from the property which is nice but you really don't “experience” it from this distance. The house is right off a paved road as well as a gravel road for a boat launch. For being described as a quiet location, there was quite a bit of traffic over almost all 4 days we were there. My family even remarked at this without prompting. Much of it was related to the boat launch. However, the evenings were generally peaceful with no traffic; mornings and days a little less so. There was also some unexpected road work related to tree cutting and disposal - that was just bad luck on our part. The little beach was a nice touch for the kids, but when we arrived there was a big rotting fish carcass next to it. It did not look like it was something that may have washed ashore but rather discarded perhaps by a boat launch user. With the beach listed as a feature, I expected some rudimentary property management around it. The kayaks served their purpose and really were nice to have available - but one is in need of repair as the seat was broken - but usable. Both storm doors had issues. The main entrance door has a bent rod on the pneumatic closer which caused issues with the door closing. The front storm door has seal issues that allow a lot of bugs to enter. This lead to needing to leave the solid doors closed all trip and did not give our dog a place to look out and watch the outside as she prefers to do when indoors. Thanks for taking the time to write this review Ken. We are glad you were able to enjoy the cottage and Lake Anna. We have taken note of the issues you raised and are correcting them. A new kayak seat has been ordered, we are having the doors repaired, and are providing a key to guests while we work out the issues with the coded lock. Apologies for the dead fish that someone left behind, that's no fun. We do check on the beach area between guests but sometimes things like this happen. Again, thanks for the review. Maria

Charming Little Cottage

We enjoyed a few days here for a long weekend. Visited LA State Park (20 min) and walked some trails there, went to LA Winery (15 min) and The Boardwalk (meh). Everything we needed was provided including linens, soaps, paper items.

Cozy Cottage with a beautiful Lake View

We had a wonderful time visiting Lake Anna. The cottage was so quaint and cozy! The cottage was clean and well equipped. Our pup was especially at ease with the treats provided. The property is located near a cattle farm so it was neat to see the cows in the morning and evening and play on the lake during the day. Just a few items to note, previous guests left coffee grounds in the coffee maker. Front storm door had stripping falling off bottom, door didn’t want to stay closed. Trash receptacle outside didn’t have a lid, filled with rain water and worried it would attract critters. Grass was tall upon arrival, however it was cut next morning. Need a good weeding/clean up around the house and decking. The view from the deck is gorgeous and access to the water was so convenient! Worked out awesomely with our jet skis and swimming for the pup!! I was surprised that the boat ramp/launch was public, maybe my misunderstanding from the listing, more traffic coming and going on the weekend in the driveway, some driving too fast! The private beach was shared with neighbors who are residents. They were super friendly and we spent our time out of the water setting on the cottage deck so it was fine but again, from the listing, impression was “private”. We would stay again!

Thank you for your thoughtful review Kelly! So glad you enjoyed yourselves. To clarify, the small beach is completely private and only for the cottage's use. There is a very small marina, if you could call it that. Several boat slips is all it is, that the property owner rents out, and sometimes people come and go to use their boats. So sorry if someone drove too fast! Regarding the beach, it is my understanding that you interacted with the property owner, who has a separate beach in a different area. Perhaps you confused his beach with yours? I understand the owner offered to let you park your jet ski in one of his ports on his side of the property, but that you launched it from your private beach. Lake cottage

Nice short trip. Some big bugs inside the cottage and sheets had stains. Also no light bulbs in one room worked.

Thank you for your feedback Tyler. I was aware of the burned out bulb in the bedroom, and arranged for delivery of new bulbs the next day. I believe you made do by moving a living room bulb to the bedroom. Thanks for your flexibility on that! I'm glad we were able to get you new bulbs so quickly. You did not make us aware of stained sheets or an inordinate number of oversized bugs. The cleaning crew checks all sheets for stains, but sometimes they may miss something. I have asked them to go through all of the sheets and discard any with stains. All linens are thoroughly washed in hot water. As Lake Anna is a rural, country environment, bugs are a part of life here, and they do sometimes venture indoors. We do not exterminate so as not to use chemicals near the lake. I do hope the bugs did not disturb your stay. Maria
