House, Bedroom plus Convertible bed in Grand Room
Denali Park Place is located in a small, forested neighborhood south of the entrance to the park. A large apartment, guests rave most about the mountain views, tranquility and cleanliness.
Guests love the beautiful woodwork, high-end appliances, fully equipped kitchen, and state of the art washer/dryer.
The artwork is part of my private collection. I have been in love with Alaska for 37 years, and have collected the artwork and books of this great state since I was 21. A brief history of the pieces in the apartment makes the artwork even more fun to enjoy during your stay.
Placed at the back of our 5 acres of land, the setting is quite peaceful – although the sound of sled dogs howling isn't unusual. Caribou, moose, snow shoe hare, and perhaps even a grizzly bear might be sighted from the array of windows.
Each window offers fabulous mountain views, and the granite breakfast bar is a perfect place to write emails (or postcards!) while enjoying the scenery. There is plenty of room to lounge in the spacious living room with two couches offering wonderful views and lots of natural light.
Upon your arrival you will find all the fixings for traditional sourdough waffles. A hands-on experience, you are provided with everything you need to make your own delicious sourdough waffles! And this heirloom sourdough comes with a fascinating history you can read about at alaskasgoldenspoon.com
Minutes away, Denali National Park offers visitors a variety of tours. The Visitors Center and the Murie Science and Learning Center are a couple of my favorite local places. The displays are great, as are the free movies and lectures. I especially like sitting in the big chairs in front of the 'wood' stove and reading. This is the kind of activity you miss if your visit is rushed - and yet will be most memorable if you take the time to do it!
Should you want to spend some time lounging at home, there is a collection of books on Alaska, a small film library with large screen television, and of course, hi-speed Internet.

About lisa frederic
RAVEN ABOUT ALASKA (my business name, because it is what I do!) David and I met in 1983 while commercial fishing on Kodiak Island. We bought our first fishing operation a couple years later and found remote property in 1989. While Kodiak's Uganik Bay is still home, after commercially fishing for 24 years I decided to try something else. One of my current jobs is as a tour guide in Denali National Park. David is still fishing for salmon and halibut on Kodiak Island so we commute between two of the most beautiful places in the world. I am in love with Alaska, heart and soul. The artwork and books in my house and the Denali Park Place are part of my personal collection of favorites. If you like history just ask me about the Alaskan flag in the hall - came from the person who designed it... or the autographed book by the very first person to lead a successful climb up Mount McKinley in 1914! Sometimes I think the only reason I want to provide a vacation rental is to show off this place I love so dearly... Alaska.
lisa frederic purchased this House in 2004
Why lisa frederic chose McKinley Park
In 1997 we went on a vacation that changed our lives. Living in Kodiak, we thought it would be a cool winter vacation to go to Nome to see the finish of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. I became obsessed. Poor David! First I worked as a volunteer with the Iditarod, then I got a job training racing huskies, and then I wanted land near the huskies I trained. In 2002 I did the 1049 mile race across Alaska, finishing the Iditarod in 14 days with a wonderful team of dogs. My book, 'Running with Champions: A Midlife Journey on the Iditarod Trail', has been very successful and once again changed my life's direction (and David's!). We bought land in the interior of Alaska and now call both Kodiak and Denali home.
What makes this House unique
If you would like privacy and a touch of elegance after your day in the park - or a recovery period during a demanding vacation - this Getaway will delight you. The community of Denali borders Denali National Park and Preserve. Minutes away from this secluded property are all the amenities of Denali National Park - tours, restaurants, hiking, shopping, wildlife viewing. There is something for everybody. My dogs were from a winning Iditarod team, so if you are interested in getting to know some retired champions, they will be more than willing to accommodate you! The artwork is from my personal collection, pieces that I am passionate about and that should delight you as well. This really is a pleasant place. Become a neighbor and see for yourself... I also supply some of my Heirloom Sourdough Starter so you can make yourself some delicious hotcakes from real Alaskan sourdough! It's easy - you'll love it! I consider myself a sourdough genealogist (!) because I am tracking the history and writing a book on this particular heirloom sourdough. Read about it on one of my sites - the history is fantastic and the taste is even better!

Simply the perfect spot to take in all Denali has to offer. Lisa is such a great host. It is like having an on-site tour guide. We loved this apartment in every way. It's exceptionally clean and has everything you would want or need available inside. The view is fantastic. The location couldn't be any more convenient. The only thing nicer than this apartment is Lisa....well maybe the blueberry pancakes! We look forward to our next visit!!!!!! Thanks Lisa!!!!
This was the greatest place we stayed on our trip to Alaska! It is immaculate and had everything we needed. We stayed two nights and wished it were longer. We met Lisa and she is a great person. We would definitely stay here again!
Great location! 10 minutes outside the park in a private setting. Great views from all windows.
Extemely clean and comfortable. Host is a very interesting woman. She gives you a real feel of the Alaskan adventure. Lisa also shared great restaurant recommendations. Stayed four nights. Could have stayed longer.
Lovely property- so homey!
Lisa has done an amazing job in making this the perfect place to stay while visiting Denali! We would definitely stay here again!
Peace and quiet in the woods
We stayed here for 2 nights in August. The apartment is very quiet, clean, and peaceful, and we saw 2 moose on her street and a snowshoe hare in the garden. We were able to meet Lisa. What a remarkable woman! After talking to her, I bought her book to learn more about her Iditarod experiences. The internet worked great! The only dog on the property is Lisa's. We did enjoy the sled dog demonstration at Denali National Park.
We stayed five nights and all we could say was Far-out.......
It was a dream spun from the mists of childhood, spun from tales told by the men who knew, from the gold rush poetry of Robert Service, the grim books of Jack London, and the pictures that still hang in the private gallery of my imagination.
Alaska - the last frontier.
With those thoughts in mind, we decided to return to Alaska, and the search for a place to stay near Denali, is what brought us to Denali Park Place. After looking at many options, including renting an RV, we kept coming back to DPP and glad we did. It's located just six miles from the entrance to the park, sitting back in the woods with a great view of the mountains. The area is quiet and about the only sounds you may hear will be the sled dogs in the distance. The queen size bed was comfortable and we found all the necessary cooking utensils in the kitchen. If it gets too warm, just open the windows and enjoy the fresh Alaskan mountain air.
There was some frozen blueberries in the freezer & we tried those with the sourdough mix one morning in waffles, and they were great. Never had any blueberries with this much flavor and wish we had a bag just like them at home. Lisa also makes sure the apartment is clean, and that was important to us. The washer & dryer was an added plus as we were going on a cruise the following week and wanted to start out with clean clothes. If you are driving in from Anchorage, I would suggest stocking up on groceries before you depart as limited places to buy food near by. We took a collapsible cooler and purchased cold & frozen food in Anchorage to take. You can go to the convenience stores in the canyon about a mile past the park entrance and pick up a few things if needed. The water has a high mineral content, and if you don't think you will like the taste, I suggest buying several gallons of bottled water for coffee, tea, or just drinking. Again, buy in Anchorage as $4 a gallon in the stores up the road.
There was a variety of spices, cooking oils, and other food items in the cabinets. There is no TV reception, so take DVD's or there are a few in there to watch. There is also a stereo & CD player, which we made good use of. If you need internet, there is WiFI with 10MB download, which is enough for keeping in touch. Overall, it was a great place to stay and would go back. We enjoyed talking to Lisa and petting Vincent too. Looking at the pictures is exactly the way we remember it :-)
All possible tours listed in the Denali Park area are easily accessible. All-terrain vehicle tours, sled dog kennels, whitewater rafting, covered wagon dinners, dinner theaters, lectures, movies, etc. If you have a reservation and need the directions sent again, contact me here and I can re-send them to you!
