About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible couch, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

The Yellow Cottage is a charming family summer home on beautiful Fair Haven/Little Sodus Bay. The cottage has 90 feet on the Bay providing expansive views of the water and beautiful summer sunsets. The cozy living space is furnished and the kitchen equipped to make your stay a comfortable vacation respite. The windowed in porch is great for comfortable summer dining and relaxing with a good book. A propane heater is available for cool weather comfort.

An seasonal aluminum dock offers additional waterfront access and enjoyment ( fishing, sunbathing etc.) Boats may not be tied to the dock.

Renter assumes all responsibility for safety in and around the water. Pets are not allowed.

Fair Haven is a quaint village with vintage architecture. There is a library, grocery store and scenic waterfront dining. Fourth of July festivities include a parade, carnival and fireworks over the Bay preceded by a spectacular wall of fire around the Bay. Boat launch and docking/mooring is available near by. Evening hot spots often have a DJ or live music.

A short 3/4 of a mile down the road are the sandy beaches of the Fair Haven Beach State Park. The Park also offers fishing, hiking, golfing and family oriented activities. A short drive from the Village you will find the Sterling Valley Nature Center, the Renaissance Festival (weekends July and early August),antique shops and local artisans. Oswego State University is 1/2 hour away, Rochester, Finger Lakes Winery Trails and Syracuse are 1 hour away and Buffalo (Niagara Falls) and the Thousand Island area 2-3 hours. Seneca Falls, Genesee Country, Six Flags and shopping outlets are all comfortable day trip destinations.

About Lynn Dempsey

I spent my childhood summers in Fair Haven and my husband first came when we were in high school. We love being in Fair Haven and believe it is one of the most beautiful yet undiscovered (uncommercialized) places in the world. We love to sit by the water during the day and watch the sunset in the evening which is often spectacular. If I want to venture into the Village I routinely check out the craft/gift shops for new local talent. We ride our bikes to the Hardware Cafe for breakfast or lunch in the charming old hardware store - I remember when it was used as a hardware store!! There is casual dining at O'Connors Pub and waterfront dining at the Pleasant Beach Hotel. Live entertainment is regularly available at O'Connors and the Little Sodus Inn. The newly opened 'Lake Effect' Winery on the Bay is as lovely as any we have visited anywhere and also has live entertainment many weekends.

Why Lynn Dempsey chose Little Sodus Bay

My husband and I are so happy we can to spend our retirement summers in Fair Haven.

What makes this cottage unique

We especially enjoy the location of the 'Yellow Cottage' because is has easy access to the beautiful Fair Haven State Park which is a short walk down Lake St. Fair Haven has all the benefits of being on a fresh water lake for boating and water sports and the being on the 'ocean' with expanisve water views, opportunities for deepwater fishing and travel. The Fair Haven State Park is a beautiful public park that has walking trails, sandy beaches perfect for children and a great pier walk. My husband and I rarely miss our daily walk to the State Park! The State Park has a golf course a short distance out of town - great golf and reasonable price!!

First time at Yellow Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great first week of Aug. at the YELLOW COTTAGE. Lynn and Kevin are so easy to work with and they keep the cottage and grounds in beautiful condition. Kitchen is well stocked with tools for cooking, beds are comfy, bathrooms are modern, good wifi, and screened porch tops it off. Dock is good for swimming and fishing. The only thing I would add if it was mine is an air conditioner in the living room.

Lake Ontario at its Finest

  • 5 of 5

My brother, Dad, and I had a great weekend at the Yellow Cottage during a fall fishing trip. The view of the Little Sodus Bay was fantastic, especially in early morning. The heater in the living room, though it looked small at first, provided plenty of heat and the kitchen had everything that we needed. Overall a great place, definitely worth a return visit. Thanks Lynn!

There were 4 of us, plus one friend who was able to come for dinner, and we had a marvelous time, despite cold weather! The space heater very adequately warmed the cottage, which was very clean and well furnished for our use. We cooked most meals and found most everything we needed. The town is fun- be sure to visit Larry and Susan at the Hardware Cafe! It was a very short walk from the Yellow Cottage to the state park (10 min), and we spent a couple shivery hours there. The cottage has a lovely lawn right on Little Sodus Bay;- must be delightful on hot summer days.

Timeless, tranquil hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Three 40 year friends + a road trip across NY + the Yellow Cottage at the fall equinox = One great idea! Only the chipmunks and squirrels, busily gathering acorns fallen from the oak near the screened porch, hinted that autumn had somehow found us, basking under the forever blue skies in the summery sun, wading in the lake...We appreciated every convenience in this idyllic setting, a comfortable blend of practical and accessible layout, space for privacy and anything you could need to relax indoors or out. Thanks for providing all the little touches, the flowers and pristine yard, the immaculate baths and kitchen, the gathering spaces and cheery decor - a place 'out of time' to laugh, to just be, to renew long friendships and make fond new memories!

A little slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Fair Haven, NY is a wonderful destination for a vacation/getaway and "yellow cottage" is the perfect place to stay! I enjoyed vacationing at the cottage with friends and family and everyone had the same thing to say, "This place is great!" The cottage is equipped with everything you need and the setting is truly fabulous! It was fun to watch the activity on the bay and the sunsets can't be beat! There is ample outdoor space and the screened in porch allows you to feel like you are outdoors even if the weather isn't cooperating. The extra 1/2 bath is a bonus! Hiking and the beach are just a short walk away at Fair Haven State Park and the village has some cute shops and restaurants. The owners tend to "yellow cottage" with TLC and were so kind and helpful. Thank you, Lynn and Kevin, for sharing your little slice of heaven. I highly recommend "yellow cottage" for your next getaway!
