Wonderfully located in the Bergisches Land, not far from Cologne and Dusseldorf, situated on the edge of the forest with a big and sunny garden, 3 terraces and a separate sauna house. Hiking and mountain bike tours with both easy and more difficult ascents can be started directly from the house: you could go around the Dhunntalsperre, through the Eifgental Valley, along the Jakobsweg or across Maria in der Aue to Altenberg. In just 5 walking minutes you reach the forest swimming baths or the Pfannkuchenhaus Coenenmühle. In the afternoons you can relax in the sauna, use the sun terraces, or have a barbecue in a relaxed atmosphere...

Beautiful relaxing place

The house was great. It was quiet, private and spacious. Everything we needed was there and our girls loved the upstairs rooms. The sauna was such a great feature and simple to use. The village was beautiful and serene with lovely walking areas. Martin was gracious enough to meet us and walk us though the house. It was a wonderful stay overall!

Beautiful serene location.

This place is a hidden gem. The home is quaint, clean and very well kept. We loved the sauna and other amenities. Its within easy reach of Cologne including the Cathedral and Chocolate Museum. The kitchen was easy to use, the stove to take the chill out of the mornings, the bed was comfy. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. I would highly recommend this home for a family get away.

The Sauna was the highlight!

We chose this place for it's location close to Cologne and Dusseldorf. We needed a place to cook our own meals and it met our expectations. Kitchen is small but well equipped with quality cookware, an induction cooktop and large toaster oven which was useful for cooking potatoes/vegetables and warming up leftovers, etc. Bar-b-cue was also very nice. Coffee maker, tea kettle, utensils, supplies all met our needs,. There is a wood burning stove as well, which we enjoyed nightly. The local grocery store was 1.8 km away and had everything we needed. We spent alot of time in the dining room playing music on the small stereo which we discovered has "audio in", so with the right adapter you can play your own music from your iphone/ipad. There are two full bathrooms on the property, one in the main house and one in the sauna house, which made things easier considering we were three women. Both bathrooms are equipped with hairdryers and very clean and spacious. Towels were provided for a fee of 5 Euros per person, and Martin helped us when we needed to wash a load of clothes. We were happy to pay a small fee for this as well. The sauna, well it was excellent. Very clean. Essential oils provided. It is just lovely. There is a patio at the back of the house which we enjoyed on some sunny spring mornings. Nothing like sunshine and birds chirping away first thing in the morning. Our host Martin was very helpful and always responded via email, text or phone call. He was also very patient as we arrived later than expected due to flight delays. All in all, this place has everything you will need.

Idyllisch vakantieverblijf

Wij hebben met onze volwassen kinderen hier 4 dagen verbleven in augustus. Het is een prettig en comfortabel huisje, van alle gemakken voorzien. Het ligt heel mooi boven aan een heuvel, omgeven door bos. De grote tuin is omgeven door dennenbomen en heeft een aantal plekken om desgewenst in de zon of schaduw te luieren. Het terras is hooggelegen en is een ideale plek om te chillen en te barbecuen. De slaapkamers boven zijn bereikbaar met een smalle, steile trap die niet geschikt is voor kleine kinderen. De tweepersoons slaapkamer beneden is comfortabel.De sauna is fantastisch. De omgeving is prachtig, op slechts 2 uur reizen een totaal andere omgeving, prachtig heuvelachtig en een ideaal wandelgebied. Er is een mooi buiten zwembad op loopafstand. Voor herhaling vatbaar.

The Bergisches Land has always been my destination for cycling tours and hikes. Since I have been renting ski lodges and holiday homes in the Alps for over 20 years, it was a special pleasure being able to design a holiday home for holiday guests just nearby...

Why they chose this property

I searched a very long time for a house in the Bergisches Land, since it had to be close to nature and no more than 30 min away from Cologne at the same time. In the summer of 2013 I finally found this wonderful house in Ketzberg! To me it was very much a matter of the heart: to realise all my ideas of a holiday home and to create a place in which you can recover and relax and feel absolutely comfortable. Hence, in the next two and a half years I spent - with the vigorous help of friends - every free minute in order to completely restore the house, to build a separate sauna house, and to create an autonomous creek, for example.

What makes this property unique

The house’s location is secluded, on the edge of the forest. Because it is set on a hill side, it offers beautiful views in the natural garden up to the forest's edge. The property is sunny like a forest clearing from March to the end of October. The light-flooded conservatory invites you to read surrounded by nature. “Up there”, there’s often snow in winter, while it is only raining in Cologne or Dusseldorf – I have been able to enjoy several sledge rides with my children. The big former garage seemed perfect to convert it into a sauna house with its terrace facing the garden...The forest baths are just a 5-minute walk away. They open for the summer holidays and offer a wonderful opportunity for refreshing - besides its 2 big pools, there is a children's pool, a playground, and a new wakeboard facility. I really like to be “up there” myself and have spent many hiking weekends with friends in the house, enjoying the sauna afterwards and some delicious barbecued food on the terrace...
