Take an adventure to this eclectic house nestled in the heart of “The City of Bridges.” Here you’ll find a unique and bubbly styled space, stocked with coffee, a refreshing work area, back deck and good vibes. Nothing beats a nearby river walk and an easy Iowa get-a-way.
The space
The Red Fern Hotel is a completely renovated two-bedroom apartment by high school sweethearts Bryce and Brielle with a goal to beautify Ottumwa.

This space is fitted for a party of one to four, with 1 queen-sized bed, 1 twin-size bed, and 1 futon (additional sheets/pillows included). It also has a kitchen which includes a stove, oven, full-size fridge, dishware, pots and pans, and dishwasher. The bathroom has a full bath/shower and washer/dryer. Be sure to make use of the back deck to hang out with friends during good weather! This space is air-conditioned and heated, both of which the guest have full control of.

Off-road parking is available directly behind the garage doors. Please leave the half circle drive free. This house apartment has 2 sets of two stairs, so this space is not handicap accessible as stairs must be taken to access the apartment.

This was a beautiful, relaxing and very peaceful place to stay. I visited the area for a work trip and was lucky enough to find this spot! I will now have to plan a trip back that isn’t involving work! The Host was kind enough to offer some locations in the area for my photography hobby. It was a really great trip!

Very comfortable

I want to start off by saying that the property is in a very nice neighborhood. It was very clean, cozy and actually pretty spacious everything as far as cleaning supplies dishes utensils were there for me to use. If I ever come back to Ottumwa I definitely will stay there again, it’s such a beautiful house.

Spring Break visit

The house is a duplex, rather than a single family dwelling. It is on the corner of two streets, one that is busy. There is a significant amount of traffic noise. The rental space is clean and spacious. It was a wonderful space to bring a family and our dog. We enjoyed our time there.

Liked the open floor plan, kitchen/living room. Mostly a clean place, there was left over food in the fridge & the crisper bins were not clean. The toilet seat shifted when anyone sat on it, so very uncomfortable. The full sized bed was not comfortable because sleepers rolled together in the middle

Nice place. Everything we needed.

My wife, son and I were visiting our family for the holidays. The Red Fern was just what we needed. Plenty of room to spread out. It's an older building so there are some quirks about the layout but nothing too bad. It is on a main drag but we didn't hear much traffic in the bedroom. I occasionally heard someone in the other half of the duplex but nothing obnoxious. It was way too cold to be on the deck so no evaluation there. Nice kitchen and bathroom. Overall, everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Home away from home

We had a wonderful 8-day stay at The Red Fern Hotel in Ottumwa, IA, and overall, it was a great experience! The home was exactly as described—cozy, comfortable, and well-equipped, making it a perfect home base for exploring the area. Located on the south side of Ottumwa, it offered easy access to the entire town, which was super convenient.The only hiccup was the washing machine, which wasn’t working during our stay. We had to make a few trips to the laundromat, but the owners were proactive, keeping us updated on the repair status, which we appreciated. Other than that, everything was spot-on. We only needed to pick up some basic commodities for our stay, and we decided to purchase a few board games to enjoy during our downtime, which we’re happy to leave behind for future guests to enjoy.We’d definitely recommend The Red Fern Hotel for anyone visiting Ottumwa—great location, comfy vibes, and responsive owners!

Blue Fern & Red Fern Hotels were great!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to our hometown! Rented both units had a great time. Was a great meeting place to get together for meals and a time to catch up with family from 5 different states. Property owners were very helpful with anything that came up. Will definitely be using their rental in the future!
