Oldest functioning property in Old Town dating back to 1750. Originally built by Lawrence Washington, George Washington’s half-brother, who then passed the property to our founding father. Walk in the footsteps of authentic American history.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, ground level. One of two apartments that make up the carriage house on this 1700’s era historical property. This unit has a full kitchen and a washer/dryer, large smart TV, and an adorable, comfy reading nook. Updated appliances along with a small electric fireplace for ambiance (not wood due to guest safety) provide for a wonderful stay in Old Town on the oldest functioning property in Old Town, dating back to 1750. The charm and location are incomparable.

Wonderful location

This property is in a perfect location. Steps to restaurants and shops. We did have a rental car and there were several parking areas close by However….You do not need a car. The bus and trolly stops were close and took you to the train station. If we are ever in the area again we would definitely stay here again!!!

Perfect space, perfect location

This rental is perfect for 1-2 guests. Has all the amenities and steps away from King Street restaurants and the water. King Street metro is about 15-20min walk. Would definitely stay here again! Thomas was also very responsive to messages.

Location is great

This is a great little place to stay while exploring Old Town. It is great to have a kitchen and is perfect for a couple needed some time away. We really loved touring the Carlyle House and the Saturday morning Farmers Market! Thank you!

Incredible location!

Wow- this might be one of my favorite places I’ve stayed! My husband and I were visiting DC for the first time and decided to stay in old town Alexandria and this place was PERFECT! Literally a few steps away from all of the amazing restaurants and shops, but still tucked away enough to feel private. We had so much fun walking to coffee shops every morning and exploring the beautiful houses around Alexandria! We paid to park right across the street, and the metro was only a short (and scenic!) walk away so that made things very easy. Such a fun town and fun experience! I would highly recommend- you can’t get a location better than this one! And the house was soo cute and cozy!

Fabulous location

Clean and had all of the essentials. Close to restaurants, historical sites. Comfy bed, but parking in this walkable city is tough to find. We would definitely stay again and take the water taxi across the river to DC.

Perfect Location

The property was as described. The outdoor space with gas fire pit was awesome. The location was just perfect. The kitchen was well-equipped although we did not use it.

Location location location

This is a historic property which has been turned into a comfortable studio apartment. The best part is that you literally step outside your door and you’re in the heart of Old Town. The host was very accessible when I needed help getting in. It was a great weekend getaway.

Carriage house

The carriage house is perfectly located by all the shops and restaurants downtown. It has a great courtyard that is shared with the oldest inhabited property in Alexandria with a couple of fire pits and lots of comfortable seating. The host was more than accommodating and easily accessible. Definitely recommend.

Charming, warm, comfortable and cozy - Perfect!

This place was everything I could want in a cozy, historic hideaway right by all the shops and restaurants in Old Town, but just off the beaten path, so it was both comfortable and convenient. So perfect! I booked this property for a short work trip. I wanted a place that was close enough to my office, but still had (walkable) things to do while not at work. I was not disappointed! I was super close to all of the shops and restaurants on King St., and a very short walk to the waterfront. The apartment itself was so cozy, and perfect for a solo trip or a trip for a couple. The owners were very kind and prompt with their communications with me. 100% will book again if I'm ever in the area :)

Excellent & Easy

I loved everything about this place. The location is in the heart of Old Town, I never had to take a car. It was easy to check in and out and there was everything I needed in the kitchen including a Nespresso and plenty of coffee. Owner even left a basket of snacks completely free. This was clean, easy, and perfect! Thank you!!

Cozy and close to the action!

My husband and I stayed from 10/19-11/1 and enjoyed our stay. It was steps away from King St with all the restaurants and close to the Potomac River. There are also various shops and several walking tours. I provided feedback to the owner upon our departure. The space is not “short people” friendly as the shower stream was very high and there were no mirrors that we could use as those were high as well. The bed area did not have shelves to use for our phones to be within reach and the internet was a bit spotty so it needed to be restarted throughout our stay. Overall though, we had a wonderful stay and would choose this location again should we visit in the future! Thomas was very easy to reach and always checked to see if we needed anything. We were very pleased!

Floyd does Old Town

Cozy, well thought out Studio Apartment with everything you need in a great location two blocks from the Potomac River Cruises and Water Taxi and a couple minutes walk to multiple top notch restaurants. Short walk to the Visitor Center and Market Square to catch the free Hop On Trolley to the King Street Station Metro and Amtrak Station, Thiessman's Restaurant and the path to the George Washington Masonic Memorial which is an architectural gem! I met Thomas the Owner, a wonderful human being and Super Host!

Great location!!

One block from the waterfront, and right off King, which has everything you’ll ever need in OTX! (Except a grocery store—but those are just a few blocks away!). I just moved out of Old Town last year, so I’m biased, but Alexandria is pretty awesome. The property is super cute and priced less than area hotels. I popped in for the Parkway Classic, and was able to walk to my cheer spot, meet my friends so they could change at my place, and then walk to brunch. Everything is very accessible.

Pros and cons

Overall the location was great but it was very noisy/rowdy in the late night hours due to its proximity to King St. The 2nd night, while trying to fall asleep at 1:30am, there was a very loud street sweeper that went back and forth on the street 5 times. So loud we were unable to fall asleep until it finally finished. We had no wifi the 6 days we were there. We contacted the property manager and he said they were having issues & outages through out the area. We were unable to find a way to turn on the recessed lights which made the room very dark. FYI...the bathroom is super tiny!! The double bed was awkward in that it butted up to the wall and the mattress was not comfortable for 2 people. My husband ended up sleeping in the little reading area which worked out better for both of us. The kitchen was great. Overall it was a good location and it provided what we needed.

As a veteran, I renovated this property to restore a part of American history. It is located on the oldest functioning property in Old Town, which dates back to 1750. The original owner of the property was Lawrence Washington, George Washington's half brother. Truly, you will be walking in the unique footsteps of pre-revolutionary American heros.

Location:
At this location, you would be 50 feet from the intersection of King and Lee Street, which is the most popular location of all the best restaurants in Old Town, all of which have outdoor seating. Additionally you would be just a block and a half from the Potomac and the park that runs along the water (with ferry access) all the way to DC. You simply cannot beat this location.

Parking:
There is on-street paid parking from Monday through Saturday, and street parking is always free on Sundays and federal Holidays. Unpaid parking is available 150 feet (west) in the Burke and Herbert parking lot after 5pm on weekdays and after 1pm on Saturdays. You also have the option to park at the covered garage immediately across the street between Lee and Union Street (115 S Union Street) for $15 per day and $10 overnight (sign details below). There are 3 other lots all in about a 1.5 block radius as well with similar rates.

Metro/Trolley Service:
A benefit of the location is that the King Street Trolley is a free shuttle that runs to the metro every 15 minutes. It starts one block from the house (City Hall/Market Square) and ends at the King Street Old Town Metrorail station. It runs from 11am to 11pm, seven days a week, including holidays.
