Love this place, Wonderful, peace and quiet with great views. Plenty of room for large groups with access to local parks and attractions. Kids play area was a big plus. Will defiantly be back for a longer stay. Tara was a excellent host and was quick to answer all of our questions!

We enjoyed this house for a family reunion to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Generations together under one roof. What a joy. Everyone pitched in with cooking and cleaning, which left time to enjoy each other and the great outdoors which this rental afforded. Kudos to our host for making it possible.

This home was perfect for our family vacation with the grands. From the playroom upstairs to the outdoor area. The bedrooms were very comfortable. Amazing views and lots of nice sitting areas to spread out. Quite a ride to get to but well worth it when you get there.

Almost all essential household items were provided in the kitchen, along with a full selection of toiletries in the bathrooms. The home is ideally situated with convenient access to both Cashiers and Highlands. While cellular service in the area is quite limited, the Wi‑Fi connection was excellent. I would highly recommend this property for a large family gathering.

We had a great stay! The home layout is wonderful for a group. The setting ins beautiful.Some of our favorite features- the huge dining table, outdoor fire pit, and well stocked kitchen.

It hadn't been cleaned after checking one of the couches upstairs to see if it was a pullout bed, we discover what looked like a whole bag of chips spilled a lond with other trash and there was lots of dust and cobwebs it was clear it hadn't been cleaned. We turned on the AC and opened doors to air it out the housefor a little while. We stayed Thursday through Sunday 14 out of the 16 ended up sick. I myself had to go to the doctor twice with a sinus infection and bronchitis, I have a weak ammune system so Igot it worse then the others. I personally think it is mold in the duck work because it was hot in the house and we had to use it so it needs to be checked for sure or cleaned. The house was the perfect size for our group we enjoyed ourselves and the area it was in but I felt the need to say something about the condition of the house making us sick. I don't won't anyone else to have to go though this.

Hi Kathleen, i’m disappointed to hear this, considering none of it was brought to my attention during your stay. I will certainly speak to our Housekeeper but I don’t think it’s fair to assume it’s the reason your party got sick. We have our AC serviced frequently so that should not be an issue. We also have a dehumidifier in the home.

The property just felt like home for a week. The dogs loved the trails outside. We had everything we needed to make a few dinners. The neighbors were very friendly when the power was out.

Great gathering place in a charming setting in the woods!

We really enjoyed ourselves. Perfect setting for a large family to all get together with plenty of room. The amenities were more then adequate. We would love to stay there again!

Great place for family gathering! We had 15 people altogether ( 3 years to 75 years old) , plus 2 dogs, and did not feel crowded at all..Plenty of space, inside and outside. Beautiful area with lots of hiking trails and waterfalls nearby. Kids and adults both especially enjoyed the Sliding Rock nearby.. Owners provided a great list of places to visit and explore.Communication with host was great.Would definitely love to visit again .

Mountain Retreat

The views are beautiful! The trail from the house was a nice hike. The layout of home is great for dining, game playing and just hanging out. It’s a lovely place to stay.

Wonderful sitting area and dining room table - very comfortable for our group of 8 adults. Bathrooms are all Jack and Jill style except the main level which might not work for everyone but we didn’t use all the bedrooms so it was fine. Some things provided and easy kitchen to use. Very homey feel. Darts and lots of board games and books for in-home entertainment. Beautiful but tricky drives between towns. Gorgeous hikes and area to explore.

Heaven in the Highlands

Gorgeous property! Very roomy and clean! Fully stocked! Out of the way, but close to everything! Great communication with Tara and Sean too! Would definitely stay there again!

Absolutely enjoyed the location and the stay- house was clean and large enough for a large group to spend time together or on their own. Beautiful location and vista, and the house was clean and had all of the accommodations to make for a wonderful time!! Thank you so very much!!

Mountain getaway for family

Ample room for all our family with 7 bedrooms , a loft bunk room, 4 baths. Family enjoyed Beautiful Mountain View from back screen porch. Huge kitchen and living/dining area . Fire pit and outside grill and tables. Close to sliding rock and silver falls and chattooga river trail.

fun family time in the mountains

This home was just wonderful! Lots of space for our large group to spread out. The dining room was huge, so we were all able to eat together. The mountains and trees were beautiful and relaxing. It was a great place for half of our family to stay for a family reunion. Lots of things to do in the area. The kitchen was well equipped for each of us to take a turn cooking a meal. Our furry family members also enjoyed it!

Amazing place, as advertised

Everything about the cabin was as advertised--great location right between Highlands and Cashiers, spacious, lots of rooms and beds, comfortable, perfect loft area for kids, hiking trails right from the property. The cabin was well stocked and clean, and had everything we needed for our stay. Owners were responsive and helpful to any requests/questions. We particularly enjoyed being 5-10 minutes from Cashiers sliding rock, which is where we finished just about every afternoon. Really hard to identify anything lacking. Would highly recommend to anyone with a large group.

Lovely mountain house

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this secluded home tucked in the woods. There were 12 adults and 2 children from our family and we had plenty of room. The kitchen is well-equipped and the outdoor space is ideal for a getaway to the mountains. The drive up the lane on a dirt road is a bit scary at first and best attempted in an 4-wheel drive vehicle. But, we got used to it and we’re pros at it by the end of the week. The owners were very responsive and provided a binder of helpful information. Plenty to do in the surrounding area. We even hiked the trail from the house down to the Chatooga River! Make sure you are in good shape for the hike back up to the house, though! We would happily stay here again!

Perfect Family Vacation!

We chose this cabin for our annual family vacation this year. 10 adults and 5 kids under age of 7- The property was clean and inviting and included lots of extras like condiments, kitchen spices, foils and storage items extra towels. There are three great outdoor areas which allowed the large group to stretch out and have those important one on one family re-connect and catch up conversations. The dining room table was enormous and we all sat together for meals and board games. The bedrooms were comfortable and quiet. The kids loved the secret hideout under the stairs. A few of us hiked to the river and located the waterfall and swimming hole. (Rem to take a right when the path ends at the river) It was awesome. We spent a fun day in Highlands and an amazing day at the ‘Little Sliding Rock’ just 3 miles from the cabin. All ages could slide and swim. We walked the short distance to the top of the road from the cabin for the 360 panorama view. Be sure to take time to read the Owners Welcome Book. It is very informative and useful for finding things to do. We enjoyed our stay and plan to visit again. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

This is a great house, excellent for larger family gatherings; needs some maintenance.The bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms worked nicely for families. Bring eye masks, as many rooms don't have blackout curtains. The main floor mattress was very soft and proved uncomfortable for both people who slept there. The loft was perfect for kids to play (including the older kids, who loved the foosball table) right near the main spaces. The screen porch has a phenomenal view! We went down to the river, which was a bit tough for the littlest kids but turned out to be fun (be sure to turn right when you reach the river trail from the path by the house, and be careful returning since it's easy to miss the turn back). Nearby, Cashiers Sliding Rock and Secret Falls were great outings.There was an issue with the cleaning (floors and showers were visibly dirty, dining table had crumbs all over it, etc.), but the host refunded our cleaning fee after offering to have the cleaner come back during our stay if needed.We noticed substantial water damage to the wood floor in one of the bathrooms, which needs remediation. One of the AC units wasn't working, so the host told us about an extra one and offered to have someone come out and install it if needed. There was structural damage to one of the deck supports, which definitely needs repair.Overall, it was a great vacation because of the stellar location and views, nearby adventures, and character of the home. Just needs a little TLC.

Hi, thanks for your feedback although disappointed considering we remedied everything as soon as you brought it to our awareness. The AC & deck were repaired the same day that you left & a soft mattress is a personal preference. The lack of housekeeping is unacceptable & we spoke with the housekeeper.

Family Vacation at MelbeMonte Lodge

We had a fantastic five days at MelbeMonte Lodge. The house is very comfortable and there was plenty of room for our group of nine adults and two teen/pre-teens. There is one bedroom and one full bathroom on the main floor. The other six bedrooms and three full baths are on the lower level. Those three baths each connect to two of the six downstairs bedrooms, so basically you have three Jack and Jill bed/bath set-ups downstairs. I believe there was room for at least five to sleep in the loft. We had a lot of rain so we spent a good bit of time in the house, but even so there was plenty of room to spread out. The view from the breakfast room and screened in porch was amazing even in the worst weather. The driveway made us all quite nervous when we first arrived, but after a couple of days we got used to it. At one point we had six cars parked at the house, including a Miata and a Prius that both managed to make it to the top. The fire pit is great and there is plenty of seating if you pull over the chairs from the outside dining table. One big advantage of this house is that it is exactly half way between Highlands and Cashiers. Plus, there are several great hikes and beautiful places to see just right off of Whiteside Cove Road where this house is located. If you have a big group that loves to hike, or you just want to get together to spend time in a beautiful place, I would definitely recommend this house for your next trip.

Not as advertised

Let’s start with Tara was easy to contact and responsive and did what she could to try and make things right. The screened in porch was beautiful in the morning. Plenty of room in the kitchen for everyone. The housekeeping was less than sufficient for our arrival. Tara said the house had just been deep cleaned but there was no way. Built up dust on bathroom floors around the base, kitchen trash not taken out, range was dirty, keurig had mold in the water canister, kitchen floor hadn’t been swept and expired food left in fridge. None of the outside that was advertised was useable except grill. My daughters father in law cleaned the upstairs sitting area for me. He also trimmed some of the path trying to find the water hole that was suppose to be 15 minute hike. 2 different hikes and we never found it. After talking with Tara on phone she said it is more like a 30 minute hike and not marked cause it’s private property. Swing set is rotted and the big fire pit hasn’t been cleaned out since at least last fall. No hammock which I was looking forward too. Once the 2 trash cans outside are full you have to take the trash to recycle center. Bear got into the trash one night and tore up the trash bin. Tara said maintenance man was coming to clean out fire area, hang hammock and try to reenforce play set and fix trash bin but didn’t show up. My oldest daughter and her family left on 3rd day and we left early on day 4. Road is not suitable for a car.

I'm disappointed to read your review considering I tried to remedy all your complaints & even sent a reimbursement. I was unaware the handyman no-showed, which I sincerely apologize for. We have never had complaints about the housekeeper nor the trail to the river. As for the foliage, it is a mountain house backing up to a National Forest... and yet, I still offered to have someone come and trim which you declined. We have spent countless hours on our welcome folder which provides very detailed instructions and directions, which you apparently decided not to read (we take care of trash unless excessive). As you can see in almost every review, people have said our home is exactly as advertised. We love sharing our family home with those able to appreciate it.

House was clean. Just some webs. Must have been some time after the last guest. Could have used a quick run thru before we arrived.Great size house. Six bedrooms on the lower floor with a bathroom between each of the 3 pairs. Nice only two bedrooms had to share any one bathroom. An additional bedroom and full bath on the main floor.Kitchen was stocked with spices, pots, pans plates silverware etc.Lots of toys for younger kids. Lots of games.Hosts were very accommodating. We appreciate that, thank you! Would not hesitate to stay there again.
