We have completely remodeled our studio apartment. It is now *the* showcase studio at The Whaler. (Read the glowing reviews from our guests below.) The work was done by Scott Williamson, known as the #1 remodel contractor on Ka'anapali Beach. Some of our pictures were taken by Scott's photographer.

If you know the Whaler, then you know that #1015 is in a great location. It's on the 10th floor on the south side of the north tower, so you're overlooking the courtyard with a terrific view of the ocean and beach. From our private 10th-floor lanai you've got terrific views of the ocean including all of the island of Lanai. Look in the other direction and you've got a great view of the mountains. (There are 12 floors in the building.)

If you don't know the Whaler, you're in for a treat. The Whaler is in the best location on Ka'anapali Beach. Walk out of the building and you're just a few steps away from the beach. (Closer than any other property on Ka'anapali Beach.) Directly next to the property is Whaler's Village with dozens of shops and three excellent beachside restaurants. And because you're staying at the Whaler, you don't have to drive home after dinner.

All linens are provided. Check-out cleaning is included free of charge. Additional cleaning during your stay can be arranged for a nominal fee.

A deposit of two nights’ rental is required with your reservation. The balance plus a $350 damage deposit, is due 60 days prior to arrival. The damage deposit is fully refundable upon satisfactory inspection of the unit's condition following your stay. A 60-day notice is required for cancellation. Cancellations more than 60 days prior to the arrival date will be refunded in full. Cancellations within 60 days of the arrival date forfeit the full rent.

About Doug Kaye

Our mainland home is in beautiful Marin County, just north of San Francisco, but we try to spend as much time on Maui as we can. Our other apartment (#707 a 1BR/2BA) is our home-away-from-home and we often use #1015 for special guests. We visit 3-4 times every year and we spend most of our time making sure everything in both of our condos is just right for our family and guests.

Why Doug Kaye chose Lahaina

We first stayed at the Whaler on our 15th wedding anniversary. That was 31 years ago in 1986. To us, the Whaler is all about the location. We love that we can walk out of the building and immediately be on the beach. We love that we can sit on the lanai any time between January and April and watch whales. And we love that we can walk home from half a dozen great informal restaurants.

What makes this condo unique

The beach is literally 30 paces from the building. We walk on the beach and swim in the ocean every morning. We love walking down to Black Rock, coming back to the middle of the beach, getting free fresh towels, taking a swim, drying off lying on the sand, then heading back to the condo. Every day should begin this way! And every evening should include a Mai Tai made by Johnny at Leilani's, just down the path at Whalers Village.

Great location and fantastic whale watching

We spent 5 nights here and loved it. The condo was clean and modern. We were able to watch whales every morning while eating breakfast on the balcony. Couldn't have been happier choosing this property. Would definitely recommend!

Wonderful unit. Great view from balcony. Spotless. Updated with all the best finishings.

We arrived for a 4 night stay. The Whaler is right on the beach, shopping mall next door with restaurants and a food court. Great location. Great view of the ocean , courtyard and west Maui mountains. The Cannery Mall is a good place to shop for food. You can get a free Safeway card at Safeway and the prices are greatly discounted. Aloha Mixed Plate is very good if you just want a casual restaurant. It is located right behind the Cannery Mall. Milagros in Pi-ia is great if you like Mexican. Kimo's downtown Lahaina is right on Front Street and on the ocean. Hula Pie coupon is on your receipt. Free hula pie if you bring it back on your next visit. Everyone raves about Mama's fish house on the way to Hana. Lunch is more reasonable then dinner. The surfers are on the way to Hana. We eat casual. Lots of restaurants on Front Street in Lahaina. Kula Lodge is on the way up to Haleakala Crater. No food or gas past there. There is a very nice shop next to the lodge. Lots of nice items, not like all the shops of Front Street in Lahaina. We drive up to the top of Haleakala every year. It's never the same. Do stop at the visitor center on the way up. Small souvenir shop and park rangers if you need hiking info. The drive up to Kapalua is pretty and the golf area is beautiful. Lots of low rise condos. Maui is our favorite island. Whale watching and snorkeling are great for ocean activities. You may just choose the beach.

Perfect Couples Retreat

My wife and I have stayed at the Whaler several times now. This is the first time we have stayed in the single room layout. First it is a lovely place and very well kept. The view from the balcony is beautiful with a great sunset over Lani every evening. The kitchen is well setup and has all the expected items. Everything in the kitchen works and if you like K-Cups for coffee you can choose between them or the Mr Coffee style maker. Really this kitchen has it all. The bathroom is small but nice and the shower works well. There is only one sink but plenty of counter space for toiletries. Closet space for clothes and luggage is good.

The single room layout has its drawbacks. The kitchen, the bathroom, the dining room, sitting area, bedroom are all in one room. So by no fault of the owner it's just a bit cramped.

Only two negatives exist for this unit.

1. I think it is time for a mattress upgrade. On vacation I really love my sleep and a really comfortable bed is one of the most important things every location needs in my opinion. I will agree that comfort when it comes to a bed can be subjective though.

2. Hair blow dryer. In today's world women really appreciate a good blow dryer in any vacation spot. The blow dryer in this unit was very subpar according to my wife.

In closing...It is a great location. The Whaler is a lovely property. The people are all nice and helpful. Yes the amenities or the facilities may be a little older style (but they are very well kept) I love the place.

PS... Be sure to use the spa. They give you an excellent massage at a very reasonable rate.

Our favourite!

We have stayed in this condo before and it was just as before - our home away from home. Everything you could want for a relaxing holiday is available and up to date facilities make it very comfortable. The bed is really comfortable which is a big bonus for us.
