About the host

Hosted by Michael or Victoria Rego, Avens Alaska

Host profile image
Owners Michael and Victoria have poured heart and soul into restoring the property, and continue raising their family in one of the last untamed parts of Alaska. Their outfit is truly an American dream in the works. Everyone pitches in to make sure chores are done and guests want for nothing (except for maybe a few more days here!).

Michael is a lifelong Alaskan whose experience and appreciation for this place runs deep, from helping his dad grow summer gardens above the Copper River every year and riding his bike down to hook the legendary king salmon, he has spent countless hours exploring and enjoys sharing what he has learned with friends old and new. He is also the engineer behind this operation and ensures reliable, continuous heat, power, water, and connectivity year-round.

Victoria achieved her lifelong dream of working as an archaeologist in Alaska nearly 20 years ago, and today homeschools their children in one of the most beautiful wild places on earth, where the labors of their hands provide sustenance year-round and make this unique opportunity for guests possible.

Whether you're on vacation, hiking, fishing, stargazing, snowmachining, or working here in North America’s largest national park, we welcome you to our home. Though this area has no hotels, restaurants, or crowds for miles around, we provide the essentials and then some to make your trip unforgettable. If you’re looking for the real, unedited Alaska - you’ll find it here with us!

What makes this property unique

Located inside the unspoiled part of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, this place is surrounded by millions of wild acres. Just steps from lakes with nesting trumpeter swans and belted kingfishers, you can experience the best of Alaska. No cars rushing by or planes buzzing overhead, just wide open skies and rich birdsong all around in summer. And in fall/winter, some of the best northern lights and starry skies right out your door.
