Overview

About the property

Separate Cottage, 2 Bedroom , 1 Bath, sleeps 3

The cottage is a seperate unit, a backyard 'granny-flat' that's about 750sq. feet . You have two seperate bedrooms, a kitchenette/living area plus bathroom. Freshly remodeled, this 'beach close' charmer looks out upon a secluded garden and lawn with badminton and loads of flowers. Eclectic is the feeling. Attention to 'creature comforts' and simplicity was the intention when renovating[Italian and Mexican tile accents, hardwood floors...] . An ajoining [but completely private] second bedroom is generously sized and includes a double bed. The kitchenette and living area overlooks the lawn and garden area.. . NO SMOKING in house or on the grounds.

We see the situation as most attractive to couples, or couples with children, looking for a peaceful setting within a short walk to our little beach town and our great beaches-, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Encinitas and Leucadia, a sample of Southern California beach living.

We are located in one of north San Diego County's oldest neighborhoods, the Highlands of Encinitas. A 10 to 15 min. walk and you will find yourself in the quaint seaside town. Ethnic dining is big; great Italian, Peruvain, Thai, Indian, Japanese, etc.- Encinitas seems to be on the cutting edge of the 'conscious life-style' movement so health minded options abound. Whole Foods is close by. While the beach and ocean remain the main attractions, the beautiful gardens of the Self Realization Fellowship are a short walk into town, a resource for relaxation and rejuvenation. Our town is 'coming of age' you might say and it's all just a short walk away.

Return to the tranquility of your secluded and cozy garden cottage. If it feels like a fit, drop in and give us a try, maybe you'll become a regular.

About Carol and Tony Hyde

Your hosts Carol and Tony Hyde have resided in the local community since the early seventies. Carol, a nurse and psychotherapist, is an avid ocean kayaker and hiking enthusiast. Tony has worked in the surfing industry and in property development, but his passion and main focus is riding waves. He is happy to share his local knowledge with those who ask, as is Carol.

Carol and Tony Hyde purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Carol and Tony Hyde chose Encinitas

We both were drawn to Encinitas for the same reason- its' laid back Southern California charm. Through the years we have enjoyed sharing the many attributes of our location with our friends and family and have recently decided we would like to expand that pool to include guests through VRBO.

What makes this cottage unique

Primarily we offer a quiet space for our guests that is within comfortable walking distance from the beach and town. (about a 15 minute walk!).We enjoy maintaining our cottages' gardenlike setting and look forward to offering a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere to those who are drawn to come. For the more adventuresome, the local surfshops provide rentals and equipment to indulge your passion. Surf Camps and Surf Lessons are offered close to Moonlight Beach, right down the way. The sidewalks don't close up at 8:00 pm anymore, Encinitas has it's share of nightlife, music and drinking establishments that 'pepper' the Coast Highway.

Charming space and great location.

Carol and Tony were wonderful. We enjoyed the charming casita and the outdoor space as well. It was a perfect location for walking around Encinitas and an easy drive to other places in the area. Highly recommended!

Cute casita with a serene yard

  • 5 of 5

We just left Encinitas yesterday and I’m wishing we were still there. It's a clean and cozy casita with the loveliest yard. It was perfect for our family of 3, we only wish that we had more time to enjoy it. Great quiet location, a 12 minute walk to Swami's Beach. Carol and Tony are wonderful hosts! Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

Enjoyment on the outside and inside.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this wonderful little house and loved it. The 2 bedroom concept and having the backyard to have coffee at was wonderful. It was not the best weather so we did spend more time inside than out but it was very relaxing. I would have loved to give 5 stars but felt like the sheets needed a bit of updating.

Loved the kitchen and the coffee. Thanks Carol.

EXCELLENT

  • 5 of 5

Very convenient location and nice to have on site parking. The little things like coffee, paper towels, shampoo was thoughtful. Comfortable beds and the small furnace was helpful as it did get cooler than normal while we were there. Grocery store close by and I-5 easy to get to for faster getting around. Best time getting around is from 9-3 as traffic gets pretty heavy. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby as well as LOTS of beach areas. We will be back next year for sure and stay even longer.

A wonderful private oasis only a 1/2 mile walk from the beach

  • 5 of 5

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Carol and Tony's Encinitas cottage for four nights. We loved it and would definitely stay there again. The cottage itself is wonderful - it is incredibly quiet, has a nice comfy bed with soft sheets, a good sized bathroom with fluffy towels and a great little kitchenette with a cute table to eat at - just the right space for the two of us. (NOTE: the kitchen only has a hot plate, microwave and mini fridge. This was totally fine for us but it's worth noting. I missed that fact when I booked it.)

The highlight, however, is the large tranquil backyard that Carol and Tony, obviously, take loving care of. There is a little table with four chairs and a couple of patio chairs for your exclusive use - plus, they welcome your use of the full yard. I spent a couple afternoons sitting out back reading while listening to the many birds chirp - I even had a few hummingbirds dance in the grass near my feet. It was magical.

The walk to the beach is only about 1/2 mile and we did that trek at least once every day. Much easier than having to drive around trying to find a parking spot. While the house is only a block from I-5, we never once heard any cars or freeway noise in our 4 nights/5 days there thanks to the couple of water fountains in the backyard and the soothing wind chimes. Plus, the cottage is towards the back of the property.

Again, a wonderful place that we hope to stay at next time we're in town visiting our friends.

Owner's Response: HI Michele, Great to have you and thank you for the sweet review! Glad you had a good time and enjoyed yourselves. One thing: there is a convection oven in the guest house..same one as we have in our house...which we use to do all of our baking now...(potatoes, chicken, etc). You must use it next time! Thank you for staying in our cottage..hope you do come again. With appreciation, Carol and Tony
