Overview

About the property

Separate Cottage, 2 Bedroom , 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4), close to beach

The cottage is a seperate unit, a backyard 'granny-flat' that's about 750sq. feet . You have two seperate bedrooms, a kitchenette/living area plus bathroom. Freshly remodeled, this 'beach close' charmer looks out upon a secluded garden and lawn with badminton and loads of flowers. Eclectic is the feeling. Attention to 'creature comforts' and simplicity was the intention when renovating[Italian and Mexican tile accents, hardwood floors...] . An ajoining [but completely private] second bedroom is generously sized and includes a double bed. The kitchenette and living area overlooks the lawn and garden area.. . NO SMOKING in house or on the grounds.

We see the situation as most attractive to couples, or couples with children, looking for a peaceful setting within a short walk to our little beach town and our great beaches-, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Encinitas and Leucadia, a sample of Southern California beach living.

We are located in one of north San Diego County's oldest neighborhoods, the Highlands of Encinitas. A 10 to 15 min. walk and you will find yourself in the quaint seaside town. Ethnic dining is big; great Italian, Peruvain, Thai, Indian, Japanese, etc.- Encinitas seems to be on the cutting edge of the 'conscious life-style' movement so health minded options abound. Whole Foods is close by. While the beach and ocean remain the main attractions, the beautiful gardens of the Self Realization Fellowship are a short walk into town, a resource for relaxation and rejuvenation. Our town is 'coming of age' you might say and it's all just a short walk away.

Return to the tranquility of your secluded and cozy garden cottage. If it feels like a fit, drop in and give us a try, maybe you'll become a regular.

About Carol and Tony Hyde

Your hosts Carol and Tony Hyde have resided in the local community since the early seventies. Carol, a nurse and psychotherapist, is an avid ocean kayaker and hiking enthusiast. Tony has worked in the surfing industry and in property development, but his passion and main focus is riding waves. He is happy to share his local knowledge with those who ask, as is Carol.

Carol and Tony Hyde purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Carol and Tony Hyde chose San Diego County

We both were drawn to Encinitas for the same reason- its' laid back Southern California charm. Through the years we have enjoyed sharing the many attributes of our location with our friends and family and have recently decided we would like to expand that pool to include guests through VRBO.

What makes this cottage unique

Primarily we offer a quiet space for our guests that is within comfortable walking distance from the beach and town. We enjoy maintaining our cottages' gardenlike setting and look forward to offering a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere to those who are drawn to come. For the more adventuresome, the local surfshops provide rentals and equipment to indulge your passion. Surf Camps and Surf Lessons are offered close to Moonlight Beach, right down the way. The sidewalks down roll up at 8:00 pm anymore, Encinitas has it's share of nightlife, music and drinking establishments 'pepper' the Coast Highway.

Cozy but spacious, great location.

I stayed here with my wife, (nearly) 2-year-old, and 7-week old. We had a fantastic time. Tony and Carol were very gracious and kind. The cottage is pretty, inviting, and well-stocked (not only utensils and linens but beach toys, kiddo stuff, etc). There is a great lawn in back with a patio that we made heavy use of. And with a quick drive to the beach, we were set. I can't imagine a better place for us to have stayed at in Encinitas.

Tranquil, enchanting and laid back

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a magical time at Carol and Tony's casita and in Encinitas.

The casita is quaint and cute. It is hard to tell in the pictures, there is a washer and dryer which truly came in handy after spending a day at the beach. The kitchen has a small sink, a very large dorm refrigerator and kitchen supplies in the cabinets and drawers.

The backyard is breathtaking with nature blooming everywhere with birds and butterflies about.

Carol and Tony were extremely kind, caring and always willing to provide insight with local beach, shopping and restaurant recommendations. They have great energy and share a passion for Encinitas and surfing.

We are so thankful for such a lovely time in Encinitas. Thank you Carol and Tony for everything! The kids loved chatting with you as well!

So happy to have connected with you. We hope to move to Encinitas in 2020. We are excited to visit again and will be in touch 😊❤️

Yet another wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are now regulars at Carol and Tony's cottage retreat where we stay up to two times a year. For us it's the perfect place for a relaxing week in Encinitas and it feels like home to us. We couldn't imagine a more comfortable place to stay, nor could we imagine more hospitable hosts. We plan to keep coming back!

Cozy place, well outfitted, hospitable owners

Comfortable, clean airy place. Nice backyard too. Close to eateries, beach and groceries. A few steep steps

Owner's Response: Point of clarification on the 'steep steps' ...there are two 10 inch steps in the guest house. We do let folks know about these steps who want to bring an elderly guest with them. So glad your mother was able to navigate the casita, and that your family enjoyed themselves. Best, Carol and Tony

Amazing stay at the Cottage retreat

  • 5 of 5

Hi Carol and Tony,

Thanks for an amazing stay at your cottage. The cottage was everything we expected and it was well sized for our family of two adults and two kids 2 and 5 years old. The cottage was clean, very well maintained and comfortable and had all the necessary amenities including chairs and boogie boards for the beach. The garden was great for the kids and equipped with a badminton set. The location of the cottage was in a quiet neighbourhood and close to the beach and Encintias shops and restaurants. Thanks for being great hosts and we are looking forward to our next stay at your cottage in October.

/John, Martina, Henry and Francis

Second Stay, Second Five Star Review

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the Encinitas Cottage Retreat, with our son (3 years old) and all was as wonderful as our first visit a year ago. Clean, comfortable, and relaxing (both inside and outside) with easy walk-ability to the beach, park, restaurants and grocery stores. Tony and Carol are very friendly, provide great restaurant recommendations and are all around fabulous hosts! Thanks so much for another great vacation!
