Waterfront Hideout Lake Leelanau-The Best of Leelanau County

Our classic knotty pine cottage is waterfront on Lake Leelanau. It's at the end of the lane tucked between the cedar forest and clear stream. No through traffic, no shared front yard; a place where you truly feel on vacation. Perfect for your sunrise cup of coffee, or sunset glass of local wine you are sure to unwind in this beautiful waterfront location.

The cottage is comfortably furnished with an Up North flair featuring log furniture and numerous Up-North touches. The open floor plan, living room- kitchen is perfect for conversation, family meals and games.

There are three bedrooms, two full baths, and a popular outdoor shower, plus a large family room giving you lots of space to spread out.
The 1st bedroom and second bedrooms have queen beds, the 3rd bedrooms has a bunk with twin over double bed. Kids love the hand carved turtles and raccoons on their beds. The den has a futon couch/bed, TV, DVD player, bar and game table. The family room makes a nice mini-suite, or a great place for the kids to hang-out.

From the front deck we've seen turtles, otter, deer, grouse, and eagles. The shallow lake entry area is perfect for play. "Dark Skies" make this a fabulous place to watch for meteor showers and Northern Lights (we've seen both many times) The dock has room for your boat or make it your private fishing pier. Our area of the lake is popular with the fisherman who know the good spots.. Two kayaks and a canoe are included for a quiet morning paddle. Serve meals on the old-style pine picnic table and choose between charcoal grill or gas flat top, making outdoor cooking a pleasure. Retire to the oversize hammock to read a book or take a nap. When it's time to clean up head for the outdoor shower with dressing area. The perfect end to an upnorth day is around the campfire where stories are told and marshmallow S'mores are the traditional treat.

Location, Waterfront on your own secluded lane, just five minutes drive south of Lake Leelanau. Easily day trip to Leland, Northport, Suttons Bay, Empire or Glen Arbor for unique shopping and restaurants.

The Hideout is at the heart of Wine Country with many personal favorites within 5 minutes. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a short drive and stunning Lake Michigan sunsets at Good Harbor Beach are free everyday just 10 minutes away.

Our dock is available for your boat and there is generous parking for your boat trailer. The boat launch is less than 1 mile from our cottage.

We will have tourism information at the cottage on arrival. If you have specific planning needs please contact us in advance.

Picturesque to say the least- best kept secret… cabin on the lake. Beautiful mornings and mystifying autumn nights by the campfire! The best part of it all, was that the hosts provided all of the necessities that many don’t ( we just bring our own because of past experiences), including a nice bag if chocolate:).We will definitely be a repeat visitor. If you want to immerse with nature and the Leelanau peninsula… this is your place!

Perfect Place!

We absolutely loved staying here for our anniversary weekend. So well maintained and being right on the water was a dream. The hosts provided so many different games and activities for us to partake in! From the board games, to kayaking, a fire pit, and even binoculars for bird watching we never had a dull moment. The cabin was 15-20 minutes away from so many amazing spots but we easily could have stayed at the cabin and never gotten tired of it. I can’t say enough good things about Lou and Diana. We will definitely be back!

Great Location!

Perfect location on lake Leelanau. The property is in close proximity to Sleeping Bear, Suttons Bay, and Traverse. We loved the outdoor space for the kids to play and being able to dock our boat rental.

Hideout Vacay

This is a very pleasant, clean, well-maintained cottage on wonderful Lake Leelanau. The kitchen was well-stocked with what we needed to cook, the mattresses are great, and we enjoyed kayaking on the lake and hiking on nearby trails. We would definitely rent this cottage again.

Great location to biking trails, Pickleball, wineries and shopping. We were able to kayak right from the cottage. Great shoreline and swimming spot. Cottage was cozy.

We had a great time connecting with family, enjoying the lake, cute town of Leelanau and our "Up North Cabin" experience! I think we all said the outside shower was our favorite! Had everything we needed and loved playing games in the back bonus room.

Perfect Getaway

My family stayed at the Hideaway for a week and it couldn’t have been better. The cottage is extremely well equipped. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen and living areas are clean and efficient. Outdoors they have everything you need in a great location on the lake. The property manager was also very responsive and a good communicator. If you’re looking for a great place to stay on lake Leelenaus you won’t regret choosing the Hideout.

great cottage in a great location

We have been coming to the glen arbor area for a long time and found this to be one of our 2 favorite places we've stayed. It's bigger than the pictures make it look, and nicer too. The hosts are extremely responsive. It's a very private and quiet part of the lake, and very easy to drive to Leland or Sutton's Bay for anything you need. Highly recommend

Perfect Getaway

My mother, brother, and I had an excellent time at the hideout. It's tucked away on Lake Leelanau and is the perfect spot to explore the Leelanau Peninsula. The only caveat is the bedrooms with bunk beds do not have 3 prong outlets, so if you're bringing a computer or any other device which needs a ground, you may want to bring an adapter or charge elsewhere in the cabin.

Resplendent • Relaxing • Rustic Retreat!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful location on Lake Leelanau. The cottage was the perfect place for 8 members of my family to connect and reflect. The location provides a good staging area for those wishing to visit the local attractions, including Good Harbor beach, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Northport, Peterson State Park and the quaint downtown's of Leland and Suttons Bay. The cottage setting itself is beautiful. It is very relaxing. Coffee in the morning with the sunrise. Night time gathering by the fire pit. The inside of the cottage is well furnished with just about anything a traveler might need. We had a terrific visit and would not hesitate to do so again!!!

Wonderful rustic cabin with modern amenities

I can't say enough good things about this property and our time here! To begin with, everything is exactly as advertised. The cabin has a wonderful rustic feel while also sporting modern creature comforts like a well-stocked kitchen, central heating/cooing, and Wi-Fi internet. My only issues with the cabin itself are that one bedroom and one bathroom are a bit small, and it's necessary to pass through one of the bedrooms to get from one end of the cabin to another, unless you go outside and use the side door. This makes it a bit awkward if you want to move through while someone is sleeping in that room. But these issues are very minor and easily overlooked given everything else the property has going for it. The location was great—secluded, with lakefront access, and also close to a number of points of interest in the Traverse City/Sleeping Bear Dunes area. Finally, the host was communicative, helpful, and went out of her way to make us feel welcome at the cabin. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants a quiet lakeside getaway with a rustic feel!

Five generations of our family have been vacationing in Leelanau County. As children moved away for careers it always provides a place to "'disconnect" and "reconnect" .
We reinvent games we played and telling stories.

What makes this property unique

Walking out on the dock, coffee in hand, to watch the sun come up is a superb way to start the day. In the city we forget how brilliant the night stars can be and the excitement of seeing a meteor shower, or if lucky, the Northern Lights. The pace of life changes for our whole family. We have time to enjoy each other and the simple things.
