Charming Victorian close to golf, beach, and downtown

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The Laurance Family home has been at the corner of Granite and Laurel streets for more than 80 years now. Standing tall, this delightful Victorian is centrally located in the charming town of Pacific Grove. It's but a short walk to Lover's Point beach and downtown. Our home is ideal for a family interested in touring 17 Mile Drive, Point Lobos or Big Sur. Golfers will be very close to all of the great courses in the area: Pacific Grove Municipal, Spyglass, Poppy Hills, Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach are all but a short drive from the house. Shoppers are close to the outlets and the shops of Carmel. Cannery Row is nearby as well. Enjoy lounging in a comfortable living room with fireplace and large screen, high-definition television. House is wireless Internet equipped as well. Three bedrooms upstairs sleep two each. Couches downstairs pull-out for overflow. Fully-equipped kitchen and sunlit breakfast nook. Dining room seats 12 comfortably.

Ideal morning

Walk downtown for a newspaper and pastries. Return to house for coffee in the sunlit breakfast nook. Take a long walk down to Lover's Point and along the coast trail to Asilomar Beach. For runners, try the trail that goes to Fisherman's Wharf and back (about 6 miles round trip).

Ideal afternoon outing

Drive down highway one to Big Sur (about one hour). Check out Andrew Molera or one of the other amazing state parks. Stop for lunch on the way back at the River Inn. Enjoy a cool drink while dipping your toes in the Big Sur River. Stop at Point Lobos or downtown Carmel on the way home.

Ideal evening

Twilight back nine at Pacific Grove Municipal. Dinner at Roy's in Spanish Bay resort. Walk thru the dunes on the lighted boardwalks. A nightcap by the fire.

About Dave Laurance

Growing up in Pacific Grove was a delight. The town is still dear to my heart and managing this property allows me to stay connected to PG and to the wonderful home that my parents created. I enjoy golf, the outdoors and cooking.

Great old Victorian house. Perfect location for exploring PG. Would stay there again

  • 5 of 5

Had a family reunion in PG. Everyone loved the old house. It was a charming, well loved family home. We felt really comfortable there. It was close to lots of great restaurants and shops all within walking distance. The house was clean, the beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils to make “home cooked” meals. Would stay there again.

Great historic house, great location, great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six had a great stay at this historic home. Dave and his family have done a tremendous job of keeping the house in good condition while maintaining many of the original details. We were able to spread out without even needing the extra bedroom in the basement. Location couldn't be better - walking distance to Lover's Point and downtown Pacific Grove. Dave was extremely responsive and kind whenever we had questions. We also met several very friendly neighbors. The photos really don't do this house justice. If you stay here definitely check out Grove Market just down the street. Great food, and the employees were extremely friendly and had lots of good tips about the area.

Everything was bad and/or didn’t work rigjt.

  • 2 of 5

Evidently the owner is in an awful state of poverty. My nephew said no one has lived in this house in 30 years. Virtually none of the doors worked in the normal way. The two kitchen light bulbs were out. The electrical is all two pronged instead of three. The primary living room light is bad, a new bulb wouldn’t help. There is no dishwasher. No garbage disposal. Most of the windows downstairs are permanent and won’t open. The barbeque propane tank was tightened so far it couldn’t be opened and we needed to replace it. The tv Comcast component wouldn’t come and when it did it was about ten years out of date. Clearly nobody cares.

Owner's Response: Granted, this stay did not go well for the guest. We had to send someone over to get the lightbulbs replaced in the kitchen and to help them get the television going. Propane tank was indeed non-functional. It has been replaced, with an extra available as well. These guests were inconvenienced and that is not what we want. Having said that, we do care about our family home. It is an old house and we have tried to be honest in our listing about what amenities are available and which are not. We also strive to address maintenance issues as time and money allow. We also do our best to keep the price at a point that matches what we offer. We hope that you will see that the vast majority of our reviews are positive. If you are considering our home, please contact me directly so I can give you a very clear picture of what to expect.

Pleasant and good location for visiting Pacific coast

  • 4 of 5

the house is in a nice area of Pacific grove close to some good supermarkets cafes and bakery. We all loved the downstairs area of the house with a comfortable living room well stocked kitchen and pleasant area to eat. Although we appreciate it is an old house it really is in need of a bit of tender loving care especially the bedrooms which although have comfy beds all seem to have old mattresses in cupboards and rather worn carpeting. Great shower upstairs but there is just a bath on the ground floor. The heating system worked well and we needed this early morning and evening when the fog set in. Great location for visiting Monterey and the pacific coast via 17 mile drive and Carmel
