Great home base

  • 4 of 5

We met up with friends for the New Year's weekend. The weather was subzero so the gas fireplace was lovely. The kitchen was roomy but the floor was cold. That must be the old part of the home without a basement. So we wore shoes in that room. I loved the loft and think it'd be great for a family with small children. We didn't do much outside other than check out the Terry Redlin art center which was very informative. We did some beer tasting at Watertown Brewing company and wine tasting at Ghost Town winery. Overall, it was a great weekend. The house could use a little TLC with new paint but everything else was good- looked like the walk in shower was a newer and hot water wasn't a problem. I would love to come back in warmer weather.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. We try to keep the home in good repair. The walls get a little scuffed when guests rub against them. We touch up paint in the spring every year, with our spring carpet cleaning. The COLD weather the week of your visit (minus 15 degrees) made it difficult to keep ANYTHING warm! I am glad that the home heater was doing its job! It sounds like you enjoyed the areas attractions. We , too, like the Redlin art center, and Watertown has some new Brew pubs, and restaurants. We hope that you can return again to Kampeska rental.

Very nice, casual and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six grand children, and eight adults had a lovely time at this home. It is lake side property, and the children spent all of the time they possibly could in the water. The water was clean and a nice temperature. They played for hours, and were very entertained. It was enjoyed by all of our family, and we will plan on another outing next summer at the same place. Thanks much. Sincerely, Pat and LeRoy Christofferson.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind remarks. Although we cannot guarantee the weather or water temperature, Lake Kampeska has been known for its water sports/ activities. Often, water skiers skim by and are very entertaining. We are glad that you had a good stay, and hope that you can return again!

Nice house

  • 4 of 5

We never could get the fire pit to light and/or stay lit. Otherwise everything was great.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comment. If we had known about the fire pit while you were still there, we could have done some trouble-shooting, and fixed or replaced it. It is difficult to light when there is wind.... it is kind of like an open BBQ!! We hope that you can stay again in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We love repeat guests, and we try to provide the essentials for a fun stay st the lake. Since the lake level is better this year the fishing may be better than last year. In the summer, the best fishing seems to be right around sunset.

Average basic cabin

  • 3 of 5

Everything was fine..Like the upper level for sleeping. Although the rental needs a good deep cleaning. It still beats staying in a hotel for 3 nights..

Owner's Response: We are a bit surprised and disappointed at the low rating we received. The guest and her family members had stayed at the cabin for 3 days in late December, and we had no notice that they were unhappy with the property or the value we provided at that time. There have only been two reservations since they stayed at the property, and little has changed. We agree that the housekeeping had not been completed before the guest's visit. All linens were washed, the bathrooms and kitchen were cleaned, and the upstairs carpets had been vacuumed. The downstairs floors were swept but not vacuumed or washed, which we understand disappointed the guests. The driveway and sidewalk were sloppy with melting snow. I did not have time to reinspect the downstairs floors before leaving on vacation. Clearly we should not have rented the cabin until all housekeeping was double checked, and we should have declined the reservation request and directed the guests to one of the excellent local motels. In our partial defense, at the time we received the reservation request, we were in China on a family vacation. We had not expected a February reservation request before we had a chance to inspect the housekeeping work when we returned February 7. We understood the guest's party of nine people were returning to Watertown for a funeral. As they were return guests, we felt a degree of responsibility to accommodate them. It was a short notice reservation request, which we have a policy of not accepting. We knew the housekeeping was not complete, but it was nearly so. Never the less we broke our policy of not renting the cabin before all housekeeping is completed. We have learned several valuable lessens from this experience, and realize that accepting the reservation request from the guests before making SURE that the cabin was fully ready was a mistake.
