About Michael Ray
This beautiful home is managed by Surffish Realty. Surffish Realty is locally owned and operated by Michael Ray. Michael was born and raised in Charleston SC and has owned and lived on Folly Beach with his family since 2006. A small boutique real estate company, Surffish Realty caters to the individual needs of homeowners and guests. Joined by wife Dianne in 2014, we hope to offer a more personal experience to those visiting Folly and the surrounding Charleston Area. We have raised our two children in the surf and pluff mud of the lowcountry and feel extremely blessed to live in this unique community. We are fortunate to be able to offer a variety of homes to those visiting our Island and are grateful to be of service.
Why Michael Ray chose Folly Beach
River Retreat is a rare gem. This home is owned by a unique and loving couple who go to great lengths to offer a home that guests will want to return to time and time again. Jim and Lynn have enjoyed a lifetime of travel and once they discovered Folly Beach they knew they had found a community that they hoped to one day call home. This home on Tabby Drive spoke to them with it's shaded canopy, deep water dock, diverse bird life, inspiring sunsets, visiting dolphins, proximity to the beach and of course the character and charm of the home itself, decks and unique views from almost every room! The eclectic and laid back community sealed the deal. It is their hope that you too will love and appreciate their home and Island and hopefully make it a memory that you want to revisit time and time again.
What makes this House unique
Almost too numerous to list, this home has a plethora of unique qualities and benefits. It is located on Deep water which means you can bring boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, etc. If you don't have these items you can rent or just kick back on the covered dock and wait for the dolphins to come visit you! Manatees have even been known to make a swim by! The abundant and diverse bird life will keep you entertained for hours, with the occasional hawk and osprey making a grand appearance. If the beach is what you seek then you need only walk a short block over to the canopied public beach access at 13th block. The Atlantic Ocean will greet you with rolling waves and hard packed white sands that you can ride a bike or push a stroller on at low tides. If the Atlantic is in the mood to offer a bit of excitement, this stretch of beach is known to hold a nice swell when available, offering a fun ride for the more adventurous surfers in the crowd. Want to just relax? Stay on the property. Enjoy the privacy and three outdoor decks. Visit inside with family and friends while still feeling at one with nature while having the comfort of the indoors. Plenty of beach houses and interiors homes on the Island but VERY FEW who offer the Folly River with such a quick hop over to the beach access located on a more private stretch of the Island.

Great location! Wonderful stay!
The location of this house is perfect on Folly. Beach access just across the street. Short walk to the park. One mile from downtown. The dock is beautiful at sunrise and sunset! Enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Beautiful home... weather... not so great:(. Overall a wonderful 4 days.
I highly recommend coffee or drinks at the Tides while sitting outside on their patio watching the waves.
The BEST place to stay on Folly Beach.
River Retreat is truly a retreat. Very clean and quiet with all of the amenities. If you love to fish or paddle, or just love nature, it doesn't get any better. Diane, the property manager, is very responsive and authentic. We won't stay anywhere else on Folly.
Beautiful house with everything you need
Impressive views and a convenient location
Didn't want to leave!
First time on Folly! The house was super clean. Had everything we needed for 9 people ranging in age from 19 to 92! The young adults enjoyed the beach a few times but the majority of everyone's time was spent on the dock...sun up till after sundown! Brought our own kayaks and jet ski. Very up close and personal experiences with the dolphins as they came all the way up to marsh grass beside the dock to forage. We saw them everytime we were on the dock.
We really loved the quietness of Tabby Lane. Only ventured out a couple of times. Just a beautiful, relaxing place we all agreed we would come back to!
Thank you for sharing your home with us!
I can't begin to describe how beautiful the view is from this house. Upon arrival everyone in our party was speechless as we made our way to the back wall of windows. Around every turn you could hear "Wow" and "Look at this". The owners have thought of everything. Games, pool table, quiet sitting areas all around the property, even toys for your dog! It was very clean. So clean, in fact, that my clean freak wife said she was completely comfortable sleeping and eating there without an "arrival" cleaning. One thing my wife noticed right off the bat was how we had a brand new kitchen sponge/scrubber still in the plastic wrapper. Think about that and what the old sponge was used for before when you wash your dishes.
We had no issues with the house during our stay. At one point I saw a loose railing on the dock and Michael came out to repair it the next day. It wasn't anything major, one end of a rail had released from the post, but he came out anyway. We had a nice conversation about the house and Folly Beach and he was very helpful with things to do. He even offers guided boat rides in the area. We just had too many people wanting to do too many things to make time for that but it sounded like a good time.
Each morning the adults migrated to the front porch to talk over the news of the previous night and drink our coffee. If it weren't for a couple of open areas between the live oaks and palm trees in the yard, I would've sworn we were all by ourselves on that island. Quiet was all we heard.
The dock is a whole additional room on its own. With the cleaning station and fridge, you can spend some time out there fishing and crabbing, like we did. And it's a good thing because once you get out there you won't want to return for a while. It was hot while we were there, consistently in the mid to upper 90's. It was muggy and you started to sweat as you closed the door. However, I'd swear it was ten degrees cooler at the end of the dock and with the breeze it was very comfortable. We sat out there with the kids watching the porpoises as they splashed minnows toward shore and the ran through them for supper. The kids had a blast catching mullet and pin fish and blue crabs.
I'd have to say that this was the most beautiful setting we've ever had on a family vacation. I'd also say that I can't imagine staying anywhere else at Folly Beach.
Wow! WE LOVE THAT YOU LOVED IT! It's such a special and unique location. You honestly can not beat the views, docks and amenities! Our housekeeping is not performed by a large company, but by Carmen and Jose and their family. They spend extra time and attention to detail, striving to create a clean and comfortable space for guests to immediately kick off their shoes...and feel right at home. Jose' even takes care of the grounds:) We have a great team! Michael and I live right here on the island...so if there's anything you need, we are just a quick golf cart away. Guests are provided our cell phone numbers and we do not want you to hesitate to use them!
