For the past 11 years, my buddies and I have been fishing in Ketchikan every summer. For the last 3 years we have joked about buying a house to give us a more permanent home in Alaska.
Well, last year I retired, pulled the trigger and bought an old abandoned shack that hadn't been lived in for the past 4 years.
I started with a brand-new roof. Added a brand-new deck. All new doors. Replaced windows. Then started an entire remodel of the inside that was completed April of 2023. The exterior has been stabilized, but still has a lot of work left to do.
The interior is where I've spent most of my focus. New appliances, new sheetrock, paint, furniture, TVs, beds, cabinets, flooring, new washing machine and dryer. EVERTHING has been re-done compared to what it originally looked like.
It is a really cool fishing shack! It is located out north by Clover Pass and Knudson Cove. Perfect for fishermen heading out!
It is also less than one mile from South Point Higgins Beach which boasts the best sunsets in Ketchikan. After a successful day on the water, you and your fishing buddy can walk hand in hand down to the waterfront and experience the best view Alaska has to offer. (Rated 4.9 stars on Google reviews)
I have owned rentals before in St. George, UTAH and had a perfect 5-star rating. I don't want that to be jeopardized, that's why I'm letting you know it is a "work in progress". If you want the perfect, completely remodeled cabin that looks great on a postcard . . . this is NOT your place. The exterior looks a bit rough still. But the inside is AWESOME!
If you are concerned about anything, please reach out to me before booking. I want to make sure you won't be disappointed with my "work in progress".
We have a BBQ grill, big pot to boil crabs in, crab crackers and hammers . . . a mud room to take off wet clothing . . . TV's in every bedroom and living room . . . comfortable beds and pillows, and everything else you'll need to feed your X and Y chromosomes. And this place doesn't suck for the ladies either. My wife has done a good job making sure it has enough class to cater to couples and families and not just smelly fishermen. This place is really cool.
Upgrades are continually happening and my wife has helped me with wall hangings and decorations since these pictures were taken.
I hope you make as many memories at my little fishing shack as me and my buddies intend on making. Again, any questions . . . please reach out to me before booking.

Our family greatly enjoyed our stay at the fishing shack. Plenty of space, beautiful kitchen and comfy sofas made for an excellent vacation home. Check-in was smooth, the owner speedily took care of everything and the home was well-stocked with needed things.

Ray and Jennifer's group were great guests.
Treated my house with great respect and communicated well throughout.
Unfortunately, we had a plumbing issue during their stay and they couldn't have been more understanding and easy to work with.
I appreciate how they handled this situation and their communication throughout.
I would definitely recommend them as guests to any bnb host.
Thanks to Roger and his Fishing Shack, my buddies and I had an awesome fishing trip in Ketchikan. The place was comfortable, beautiful and updated inside, and well equipped with essentials for our adventure. Highly recommended!
Great location away from the cruise traffic, recently renovated, and extremely comfortable!
We traveled to Ketchikan for a family guys trip and had an exceptional experience at The Fishing Shack! Checking into the house was a breeze and even before we arrived, the owner sent us a multiple-page document with house information, things to do, and nearby restaurants/stores. I've never received anything so detailed and it was very helpful being that we've never stayed in the area before. The location was perfect being on the Northern end of town as this allowed us to stay clear of all the cruise ship traffic downtown. And even when we wanted to venture downtown to eat or walk around, it was only a 15-minute drive. The house was recently renovated and the owners did a fantastic job doing so! The exterior was beautiful and had a huge porch and the interior was decorated very nicely and was very comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with just about anything you could need or want so there wasn't much that we had to bring in - except for bottled water and beer! The bedrooms were all comfortable and everyone had plenty of room to spread out. The bathrooms were all very nice and had good water pressure. Everything in the house was in great working order! The owner, Roger, was extremely accommodating and provided excellent recommendations. We had a hard time finding a fishing charter and Roger set us up with someone who was able to squeeze us into their schedule and was fantastic - we caught a few coho salmon and a giant 38" king! This is the perfect place to stay in Ketchikan!!

I love Alaska, hunting, fishing, crabbing, adventure, and the outdoors. A piece of my heart gets left here every time I visit.
Eventually, more of my heart was in Alaska than my home state of Utah.
Why they chose this property
My buddies and I have had a long-time dream of owning soil in Alaska where we can retreat, remind ourselves of the true meaning of life, and re-charge our batteries.
THIS is the property where we chose to do those things.
We hope you enjoy it! Its a funky little shack that we have sunk time, energy, and effort in to make it livable and a place to call home.
