About the property

Cozy one bedroom/one bathroom Mountain cabin on 13 acres

The mountain log cabin is a beautiful retreat. From the deep porch, you have spectacular long range mountain views and can watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee. It's in a wooded, peaceful setting surrounded by nature, yet close to nearby activities and shopping. This is a one bedroom, one bath, cozy cabin. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans, dishware (etc). A fire pit and hot tub adds to the comfort of your retreat. The comfy bed has ultra-soft linens and towels, and the cabin has plush robes for your nights in front of the fire pit or after a nice soak in the hot tub. We also have Roku, antennae TV, a DVR and a radio/CD player and wireless internet for your enjoyment. Sit on your porch and listen to the sounds of nature, watch the wildlife, or see the beauty of the mountains change color throughout the day. In the evening, you will spot deer, turkeys and ground hogs, as well as the fireflies dancing in the grass. Enjoy the onset of dusk with a glass of wine in front of a crackling fire. Let the Shadow of the Moon Cabin and it's private, peaceful setting rejuvenate you.

About Judy Howell

John and Judy both worked for the US Marshals Service, and met in 2007. In 2012 they married, and enjoyed traveling to the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountain area whenever they could. They fell in love with the Waynesville/Asheville area, and knew they had to retire there. They searched the area for property to buy, and as soon as they drove up the driveway of this one, they knew it was the one.

Judy Howell purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Judy Howell chose Smoky Mountains

This property is so unique. It was an old farm and in the same family until early 2000. It's on 13 acres, surrounded by meadows and forests, with spectacular mountain views. You will feel like you are isolated in nature, but are in fact minutes away from towns, shopping and activities. It is, truly, the best of both worlds. This property has hiking trails, long range mountain views, mountain streams, and privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

From the front porch of the cabin, you can sit with a glass of wine or hot cup of cocoa, and gaze at the mist in the meadows or the spectacular views of the mountains. Listen to the sounds of nature and watch the fireflies dance in the evening. You will forget how hectic life can be when everything here is so tranquil. The cabin is cozy and comfortable; it's charm and hominess is to be enjoyed by couples, honeymooners, or folks looking to get away. The bedroom is comfy, outfitted in soft bed linens. After a day spent hiking or shopping, you will look forward to snuggling up in your nest. The living room has games and cards, but also has TV and wireless internet for times when you want to 'plug back in'. You will love staying here; it's like your home away from home. There are streams on the property, as well as an old barn. The property will delight you and renew your spirit.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"We enjoyed our stay in your cabin so very much! It felt like home and we really appreciated the relaxing, welcoming atmosphere you provided for us. We loved sitting in the hot tub and gazing at the stars (something we don't get to see in Atlanta!). We actually got engaged Friday evening right on the front porch, so I know we will never forget this place! We will surely be back!"

So homey

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this cabin quite a few times and just love it. It feels warm and cozy ... just like home. So much lovelier than a hotel room. Clean and fabulous.

Fantastic 3 days!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Dream Cabin exceeded our expectations! The setting was serene, beautiful and very peaceful. The cabin was extremely clean and suited with all of the comforts one could ask for. We really loved the hot tub, as it was waiting to be used when we arrived, and let me add....very clean. Also I would mention the location being positioned in the Waynesville/Lake Junaluska/Maggie Valley, area offered limitless and varied restaurant opportunities. Honestly there are so many superlatives I could mention, but the most resounding endorsement is that we look forward to returning very soon, it was a fantastic stay.

My children actually cried when we left and wanted to know why we had to go home! They loved every moment of this and we will be returning this fall. Thanks again!

Please be advised that if you are booking on a day when a prior guest is checking out the day you are checking in, the hot tub will not be up to temperature on the first evening. We drain, clean and refill the hot tub between guests, as required by NC law, and a same day turnover is not enough time for it to get up to the proper temps. It will be ready the next morning.
