Wonderful amenities with attention to detail are provided including, dimmers on the lights, a fireplace and writing desk in the bedroom, washer and dryer, plush towels and a towel warmer (a skylight in the shower!) artisan bath products, 100% cotton & down and down alternative bedding, hand turned pottery from the area artists, Provencal quilts and textiles and a gourmet kitchen with a 5 burner gas stove, copper pans, good knives and appliances, everything you need to prepare gourmet meals after shopping at the area street markets! An escapade into history

A truly beautiful and lovely place tucked into the medieval town of Aigne. It is the perfect spot for losing yourself... or finding yourself. I would like to come back and stay for a month so that I can write my books.

ein ganz besonderes Kleinod

Home is where the heart is - und das ist hier Programm!

Away From It All

This is a charming, cozy, well-appointed home in a tiny, tiny village. I visited in the early spring, when the weather was unpredictable and the village was nearly deserted. Guests should know that the only commercial establishments in Aigne are a gourmet restaurant (excellent), two art galleries (closed when I was there) and two wineries (closed for tasting during my visit). So Olonzac, 8 km. down the road, will be one's source for everything from a croissant to a gas tank fill-up. But Aigne is well-located for exploring this lovely region of France. The kitchen is well-equipped, beds comfortable with high-end linens, and there's ample artificial light -- necessary because the house is tucked between two others at the end of a short alley, so natural light is limited, and there is no real view. The only space for tucking away clothing consists of a mezzanine level accessible by what I would characterize as a ladder, rather than a stair. The washer and dryer work well, and hot water is immediate and plentiful. The owner has provided a wealth of informational brochures about things to do in the region, restaurant recommendations, etc., and she kept in close touch with me before and during my visit. I enjoyed my stay, and plan to return later in the season to explore more of the Cathar castles and wineries in the area and feel more of the energy I'm sure develops as the weather improves. The property manager is extremely gracious and helpful. I so wanted to give it five stars. However, I was seeking a place for a stay of a month or longer later in the year, and I knew it wouldn't work for that. So the four star rating reflects my very personal assessment based on my specific need.

Jewel Box

First impression was that it was romantic and inviting and made you feel like you were home. It has all the amenities you would want, including a washer and dryer, and the kitchen was so well stocked with equipment that it invited you to cook there. Every night I went to bed to a warm fireplace lulling me to sleep. As a photographer, I love to travel and capture various subjects. This perfectly situated country home allowed me the geographical flexibility to explore. You can take a day trip to Barcelona, the French Riviera, Provence, the Pyrenees mountains, as well as stay locally and see the abundant markets and vineyards. I was there when they were harvesting the grapes and it was wonderful to see first hand. I would greatly recommend this to all of my friends and I cannot wait to go back there again, myself, in the spring.

Wonderful cozy home away from home!

This carefully and beautifully appointed little place welcomed us to the quiet and peace of the French countryside after a week in Paris. Everything was clean and in good working order with lots of information about activities in the area provided. Our village had a wonderful gourmet restaurant but we also traveled to other villages for day markets and evening meals. Locals in the village were friendly and helpful. Lots of fun traveling the beautiful french countryside! We even made a trip to Barcelona for a few days. Biking along the canal was great fun. We had not planned on cooking meals in our place but after picking up fresh food at the market and wine at the many wineries, and having a kitchen with every possible amenity at our disposal, we did cook and eat some at home. This property is a wonderfully warm and romantic retreat for a couple or small family. I have recommended it to my friends and family.

Gorgeous home, great location!

We had such a nice time during our stay in Aigne. Quiet, romatinc, relaxing. The house is beautiful, with wonderful amenities and excellent attention to detail. We particularly loved the copper pots and the gourmet stove! The location is fabulous, in the Laungedouc wine region and near to Carcassone, Minerve and the sea. There is so much information available at the house about things to do in the area, including markets, and the owner was so helpful. We had everything we needed, including perfect weather, and we would definitely recommend this house to friends. Thank you!

Comfort in the French countryside

The converted stable makes a lovely, cozy house. The first thing you see is a table in a sweet, shady, courtyard like setting. We slept downstairs in a comfortable bed. The kitchen, upstairs, is well-appointed and we enjoyed cooking and dining during our 5-day stay. The things we appreciated are universally popular, i.e., washer and drier, and internet, both of which are available. We were there in late summer and the temperature, in the house, was perfect. It is also conveniently located near several other small villages. We liked driving around and Kimmie had provided us with maps and a comprehensive list of things to see and do. I, wholeheartedly, recommend the little house in Aigne, Languedoc, for a sweet vacation stop.

Sobre o anfitrião

Anfitrião: Kimmie Rhodes

Imagem do perfil do anfitrião
Owner of the house, Kimmie Rhodes, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter created this house to be a refuge during long tours of Europe. She refers to it as 'a quiet place to write & practice new songs & do laundry!' She & friends visit her home in Aigne for a peaceful, relaxing & fun place to eat, drink & play music & she loves to be 'tour guide' taking her company on adventures to the many historic sites, wonderful restaurants, markets, antique shopping 'brocantes', mountain vistas, canal views, seaside beaches, national parks, pre-historic caves etc... in the area. She enjoys the proximity to Spain & Costa Brava, the Pyrenees mountains, Provence & The Camargue (home to gypsies wild horses & pink flamingoes) but enjoys being able to escape the crowds & drink wine at sundown in the seclusion of the courtyard of the beautiful rare village which is so protected that bakeries, gas stations & all businesses with the exception of the Gourmet restaurant Le Cagarol (named after the snail shape of the ancient village fortress) & village artists are banned but still only 2 minutes away in the nearby village of Aigues Vives. She is a real 'foodie' at heart and a gourmet cook. One of her main reasons for settling in France was to be able to peruse the local markets, especially the grand daily food market in nearby Narbonne & create courses paired with the wonderful local Languedoc wines to delight her friends. She is a true 'bohemian artist' type and feels this village & house provide the perfect canvas for a rich life well lived. She enjoys treasure hunting in order to decorate the uncluttered but well appointed house with cool finds and comforts and has found great joy in the renovation challenge of transforming the 1000 year old stable into an elegant get-away complete with chandeliers on dimmers, fireplace, wifi & all the modern conveniences while maintaining the house's integrity. Her philosophy is that no house should stand empty so she has offered it on Home Away.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

Kimmie chose this area of France because of the rich cultural history of the Cathars and the many historic castle towns like Carcassonne and Minerve, Aigne being the smallest and most well preserved and secluded of all. The area has fantastic proximity to her favorite places to visit; Spain, The Pyrenees Mountains, The Camargue, The French Riviera and Provence but she but prefers the 'less touristy' location as a get away but likes knowing that lots of 'action' including night-life is still close-by. Last but not least she discovered and ultimately fell in love with the region and she believes there is no better place to be because other artist friends who introduced her to the area many years ago reside there. She loves and appreciates the people, their spirit and the wine they make!

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

If you are looking for a small rustic but very elegant apartment type house in a very quiet and preserved historic village this is the place for you. It's the perfect place for a romantic get away or for a couple with kids. It is in an amazing area rich in everything vacationers need. Very close to but still far enough away from the many towns, beaches, restaurants bars & tourist attractions to provide solitude in an historic ancient setting amidst the beautiful landscape of Cathar castles and vineyards. Because the house is smaller than some in the area the price has been adjusted accordingly but greater attention to detail including a fireplace, gourmet kitchen, really fast wifi, deluxe duvet and pillow bedding with high count cotton sheets, weekly house keeping, amenities for bath from the local coop, fluffy towels and towel warmer, bar-be-que grill and patio furniture, Provencal linens and hand turned pottery have been provided making this house special.
