Chateau Jautrudon has all that is needed for a family holiday in rural France. Set in a 40 hectare estate, the chateau offers a peaceful and secluded location with several kilometers of walkways through our forest, a private fenced pool, tennis court and 3 hole par 3 golf course.
The interiors provide a high level of luxury with antique furnishings together with fully modernised and equipped kitchen and bathrooms. The chateau was fully renovated and modernised when completed in 2007 and lots of enhancements have been performed on an ongoing basis with the introduction of a 3 hole par 3 golf course in the park (clubs provided) and an exercise trail in the forest.
The chateau provides all you will need for a active or relaxing vacation. Just select a book and sit by the fire in winter or the pool in summer, play croquet on the lawn with an early evening cocktail, play tennis and golf, walk through the forest and try to spot the deer and wild boar or cycle to the village to pick up fresh croissant, pain au chocolate and fresh baked bread.
The chateau itself sits in the midst of a network of walking tracks that can lead you to the ancient Priory de Villesalem and many of the local hamlets and villages.
The region is split by 3 major rivers (the Vienne, Gartempe and Creuse) which provide many opportunities for water activities and picnic locations. Just to the north of the chateau is the Parc National de la Brenne which contains hundreds of small ponds and lakes, several of which have beaches, restaurants and water activities.
Close by are the towns of Montmorrillon and Chauvigny which are well worth visiting for their medieval architecture and also their thriving markets and shops. St Savin is a UNESCO world heritage site having a large medieval monastry which can be visited to view the interiors and frescos, as wel as to have a picnic by the river.
Further afield there are numerous morning markets in the surrounding towns and villages where you can buy local produce, clothes and even hens and rabbits. One of the largest markets in France is held at Les Herrolles once a month.
The region also boasts the Futuroscope theme park close to Poitiers which is a great experience for all the family with IMAX theatre presentations, informative and fun features and exhibits and fireworks and fountain displays to end the day.
other days out include the Vallee de Signes where you walk through a woodland with monkeys in the trees and on the ground, Iles aux Serpents and Crocodile Planet.
After a hard day relaxing around the estate, playing sport or siteseeing in the local area the chateau provides everything you will need for enjoyable evenings with family or friends. The huge modern kitchen has everything you will need to prepare a special meal to be eaten in the formal dining room or for an outdoor meal on a long summers evening on the balcony.
The chateau room configuration has been adapted with families in mind. There are 5 bedrooms on each of the upper 2 floors. Each floor has 2 wings with 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom in each wing. There is a central bedroom on each floor with it's own en suite bathroom. All bedrooms have queen or king sized beds except for 2 twin rooms (one on each floor)
The ground floor has a TV room, hallway, dining room and fully modernised kitchen and the basement has a table tennis table and an informal kitchen that links to the outside terrace and pool.

Our family has always travelled in France and now that we all live across the globe from the USA to China and Australia we always make a point of getting together once a year and what better place than Chateau Jautrudon
Steve purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2004
Why Steve chose Journet
Access to Chateau Jautrudon is easy whether by car, train (TGV from Paris) or air (airports at Limoges and Poitiers). The region is quiet and rural and has some of the prettiest villages in France but also has a huge range of activities to suit everyone in the family. We have vacationed in the region for the last 15 summers as a family, the last 10 at Chateau Jautrudon.

Fantastic well equipped chateau
This is the 12th year we have stayed in a chateau with friends in France and without a doubt it was agreed that this was the best one yet. Full marks for all facilities including the 6 golf holes even though the greens were a bit rough.
Amazing Chateau and wonderful holiday
We had a wonderful week at Chateau Jautrudon as 12 of us gathered for a friends and family holiday. The property grounds are extensive and we took advantage of this walking through the woodlands, using the tennis court and swimming pool as well as attempting to improve our golf!
The house was immaculate, beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped and was everything we had hoped for. The caretaker, Nicolas, was there to greet us when we arrived and was exceptionally friendly and responded quickly when we needed any help with anything. Prior to travelling to the Chateau we sent a number of emails with lots of questions to the owner Steve who was extremely helpful giving us lots of ideas of things to do which was really appreciated.
Most days were spent walking, touring or around the pool and grounds and most evenings were spent on the balcony enjoying BBQ meals and the odd glass of wine or beer! The nearest village, La Trimouille, was only a 2 mile walk away through some lovely country lanes. One day that really stood out was when we went to Oradour-sur-Glane where a whole village was massacred in WWII which was extremely moving as the village has been left as it was and there is an exhibition paying tribute to the people of the town. We also went to a number of other beautiful towns and we’re amazed at how quiet the roads were – unlike what we have to put in with in the West Midlands!
Overall we had a great time and are already contemplating another holiday in the next year or so!
We had a most wonderful week at Château Jautrudon as 14 of us gathered for a family celebration. The owners have created a restful and charming abode which is extremely family – oriented. They have literally thought of everything to make a holiday stay fantastic, whatever age. The house was immaculate and beautifully furnished and everything worked a treat, and both Nicolas and Céline (the housekeepers) were friendly and attentive. The attractions at the property, swimming pool, tennis court, 3 hole golf course and woods, meant that we did not travel far afield – St Savin and Montmorillon and a walk to Villesalem – but we were grateful to discover a part of France that we did not know at all. We all had a superb holiday and can’t wait to return sometime.
Wonderful Second Visit
Having experienced such a wonderful holiday in 2012 we could not resist the temptation to return in 2014.
Our recent holiday proved to be every bit as fabulous.
Chateau Jautrudon is breathtakingly beautiful. The immense grounds in which the property stands are comprised of a mixture of well manicured lawns, formal beds and natural woodlands.
As a relatively large group of extended family, we found something for everyone regardless of our ages. We all had our turn simply lazing around the gorgeous pool with a book, cycling into the village, playing tennis, pitch and putt or taking in the wealth of flora and fauna the estate has to offer.
On both occasions we found the chateau to be spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished.
Everything seems to have been thought of by the owners. There are countless books, games and movies, not to mention a terrific selection of local, well priced wines in the cellar to wash down the irresistible local delicacies!
We all felt the Chateau represents excellent value for money and Nicolas and Celine (the house keepers residing nearby) could not do enough to ensure we had a wonderful stay.
An absolute gem not to be missed!

A fantastic house, highly recommend!
The chateau was everything we hoped it would be. The caretaker was there to greet us when we arrived and exceptionally friendly. He was very helpful with detailed information about the house and the area. He lives in a separate house 500 metres away and appears only when needed, knows the answer to just about anything, and is easily reachable whenever there are questions. He and his team keep the house looking great, and if there is anything that you'd like to do but aren't sure how, all you have to do is ask.
We've stayed in a number of large houses over the years for large family gatherings and the quality of the fittings and interior in this chateau is by far the best we've ever come across. It is beautifully decorated with an extremely high finish. It is extremely well furnished and fitted out with excellent showers, good quality beds, etc. The kitchens - a main kitchen and one downstairs next to a BBQ area - were excellent and had everything you would need.
We were a group of 19, and at no time did we feel crowded or in each other's way. Although the house is big it has a really homely feel, it has been beautifully restored.
It has great facilities that meant all ages were happy and entertained.....with a pool, table tennis, tennis court, golf, woods, the garden and plenty of space in the house. Even on the odd nights when too cold to eat and sit outside there was still ample space for all 19 of us to sit around a table and to eat together.
Our visit was absolutely terrific. I would highly recommend this house to anyone.
