About Deirdre Lane
My husband and I grew up in the Boston area and went to the same college in Chestnut Hill. We met through mutual friends and were married soon after. We now live full time in a suburb of Boston. Osterville is a safe and rejuvenating retreat from the craziness of our every day lives. I am sure you will love it as much as we do!
Why Deirdre Lane chose Osterville
This property is very special to us because it is where my husband vacationed with his parents and siblings growing up. They spent several weeks each summer renting cottages with their aunts, uncles and cousins and eventually bought this house because of its beautiful lot and perfect location, steps to the beach and a short walk to the village. We have been lucky enough to keep it in the family, so our children have grown up vacationing here as well. We spend less time here now that they are grown and working full time. We recently did some renovations and are completing more as time and finances allow.
What makes this House unique
Location, location, location! We are just behind Wianno Ave and steps from Seaview Ave...one of the most exclusive areas of Osterville. Once you get here, it is possible to spend long stretches of time not needing to drive a car. All kinds of fun is within a short walk, jog or bike ride but the neighborhood itself is very quiet. If you need to nap and recharge, there is no traffic noise. The backyard is enclosed by a tall wooden fence for privacy and is planted with flowering trees, bushes and perennials. There is an in-ground, heated pool as well which, even though not necessary because of the close proximity of the beach, is a real treat. A pool maintenance company comes once a week to clean and maintain the pool.

A bit of paradise.....
A beautiful rental. The house was spacious and had everything you can imagine. Many updates. Nautical decor.Pool was outstanding. Never saw grounds so well manicured.
This was our first visit to Osterville despite many vacations to the Cape. The town is quiet, less traffic, and great restaurants. Close to the beaches.
Owner was very responsive to our needs.

perfect vacation getaway
This property was the perfect place for my family to relax, enjoy and have fun. The house was spacious and comfortable. The neighborhood was lovely and a wonderful place to take lazy walks or bike rides. The weather was perfect the week we were there and the pool was the perfect addition to an already perfect location. Walks to the beach were long enough to get a bit of exercise yet close enough to feel comfortable. The owner was accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. Overall I would highly recommend this home as a great vacation getaway.
Thank you Carol! We loved having you and your family. Please come again any time.
Perfect for family and a Great Location
We were a family of 10, 6 adults 4 children, and really enjoyed staying at this location. It was very family and kid friendly with the pool, and a garage filled with fun activities for the kids to play with. We felt very secure with fences in the back of the house and around the pool. The only problem was one of the bedrooms didn't have air conditioning and unfortunately it was very warm the week we were there but otherwise everything was so nice. We would highly recommend this house for a fun family vacation.
Thank you for your wonderful review. We are so glad you all enjoyed your stay. Since most of our renters are extended families they tend to use the house as we always did. That bedroom without its own air conditioning was always a child's bedroom and we kept doors open to hear them at night. The A/C is so strong that it always cooled down that entire end of the house and was not a problem. Of course if everyone keeps their doors shut that twin bedroom will not get A/C. We do have ceiling fans in all bedrooms as well and usually so close to the ocean there are wonderful cool breezes at night all summer. Once in a while I guess it can present a problem so we are planning a big renovation this fall and that will be remedied as well, since with "global warming" the weather is even more unpredictable than it used to be. So glad you enjoyed your stay and we'd love to have you back!
We absolutely loved our stay in Osterville!! The house was amazing and the location was perfect.
This property was perfect for our whole family! The inground pool and beautiful gardens were the icing on the cake. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Cape! Crisp pizza was delicious and our girls loved making s’mores there. We had everything we needed at the house!
Thank you Ashley and Alex! So glad your vacation was a success. We worked hard to get the Spring cleanup done in time for your stay...and I must say, it looked pretty good! We'd love to have you stay with us again. You were the perfect guests :)
Beautiful home and excellent location.
We rented this house for a weekend for a small sibling reunion- twin sisters (age 69), brother (79) and another sister (85) and two spouses. Plenty of room for the six of us. Four of the family have some mobility issues so the one floor living was perfect. Beautifully landscaped and a good sized pool although we did not use the pool- too cool in late September.
Deirdre was very responsive in answering any questions we had.
We are so happy to hear that you all had a wonderful time together at our home! Sometimes I think the best family vacations are those where everyone can spend extended time together and talk and talk and talk. Osterville is a quiet and beautiful little village with restaurants and pretty little shops all within walking distance of the house. The beach, the harbor and countless sea views are all around us as well. We love to stay there during every season. Thank you for your kind review.
Wonderful, roomy home. The pool was such a plus. We had the owner heat it for an extra charge so our Irish company could enjoy it. Everything you need is in the home. The owner, Deirdre, was very responsive and helpful. Location is beautiful and everything is a short car drive or a long walk away.
We are so glad your getaway was a big success! I hope you had a chance to relax since you indicated you had had a very busy week before your arrival. We do our best to make people happy and comfortable. Hope to have you stay with us again sometime.
Our cute, little village has all of the essentials (no need to ever leave!) ...homemade ice cream at Gone Chocolate, out-of-this- world thin crust, gourmet pizza at Crisp Flatbread Pizza (with outside seating and a fire pit to roast marshmallows and an outdoor pink pong table for the kids), a harbor side restaurant/bar to watch stunning sunsets (the Chart House at Crosby's Boatyard), a new town library, many assorted boutiques on Main Street, a Mobil gas station and Fancy's Gourmet Food Market.
Our home is in the exclusive area known as Wianno. We are within a few minutes walk to beaches, churches, the library, restaurants and the village shopping. You can park your car, hang up your keys and enjoy all amenities by bike or by foot.
For boat lovers, Osterville has three harbors, East Bay, North Bay and West Bay, all with public access. Short-term docking is often available with reservations at Crosby's Boat Yard and Prince Cove.
For the angler in the family, there are many fishing areas including the fishing pier at Dowses Beach. In addition, there are designated areas for shell fishing and crabbing (permit required). Sport fishing charters leave from the Ocean Street docks in Hyannis daily for half day and full day trips. Striped bass, tuna, and blue fish are favorites.
Osterville is a beach lover's paradise. We are a small village in the larger town of Barnstable and our beach pass allows our guests access to Dowse's beach, Craigville Beach, Jonathan's Pond, Hathaway's Pond, Veteran's Beach, Sea Street Beach, Kalmus Beach and Sandy Neck. All of these beaches have bath house facilites, parking, lifeguards and food.
Golfing enthusiasts will find many choices within a 20 minute drive. Some of the notable public golf courses include the Cape Cod Country Club, Olde Barnstable Golf Club, Hyannis Golf Club, Paul Harney Golf Club, Cotuit Highground, Ballymeade Country Club, and Quashnet Valley. The private Wianno Club course is on West Street, steps from our home.
Shoppers in the family will also be kept very busy. In addition to what is available in the village of Osterville, Mashpee Commons (15 minutes by car) is a wonderful destination on its own. It was built in the style of historic Cape Cod and it's a clean and friendly place to wander in search of something special. Small unique stores selling Cape Cod inspired goods, a fresh juice bar, assorted restaurants, and a movie theater are mixed with some high-end chain stores like Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn.
Main Street Hyannis is ten to fifteen minutes from our home in the opposite direction. It has been a major destination for many vacationers for years and has some great shopping and restaurants as well as the John F. Kennedy Museum. If that is not enough, on weekends from late May to mid-June, and daily from mid-June through September there are always the seven Artist Shanties on Hyannis Harbor. If so inclined, people can watch the artists at work and buy directly from them.
In our opinion, no summer can be complete without a trip to Nantucket, at least for the day. The ferry trip is an event in itself and helps to calm even the crankiest among us. If there is enough time, we get up early and get ourselves over to the Steamship Authority in Hyannis for the first boat of the day. That leaves us time to take the slow boat over (costs less than the high speed ferry), enjoy being out on the ocean and then have hours and hours to explore downtown Nantucket or maybe rent bicycles and go to the beach, still having time to eat a nice dinner and take one of the last boats off island that day. Martha's Vineyard is nice as well but is much larger so it would be smart to allow yourself a few days there to really see things.
