Our experience with the apartment, itself, was fine. The apartment was clean and well-furnished. The grounds were beautiful and the pool was near. Our overall experience was less than satisfactory. Upon leaving, the owner kept the entire (several hundred dollar) deposit.. claiming someone wore his wife's pajamas, someone wore his clothes and his new shoes, and there was cigarette smoke in the apartment. We did none of that. However, it's difficult to dispute. I sent polite emails to the owner asking about any other person, family member or cleaning service personnel that had access to the apartment. None of the emails were answered. Additionally, the apartment was open and unlocked upon our arrival.
Any owner should lock away personal items when an apartment is rented. An owner should also ensure an apartment is locked and secured at all times when vacant.
I don't know if someone actually did the things alleged or if this was the owner's way of keeping the deposit. I would just caution any potential renter to be cautious and weigh the risks and benefits of any vacation apartment.
