About the host
Hosted by Christine
I am a native Californian and currently split my time between Los Angeles and Paris. A first career in international luxury goods distribution was complemented by a family life which straddled three continents (USA, Europe, Asia). I have 20+ years experience as an interior architecture and landscape design professional. In Paris I help HNWI foreigners with all aspects of investing in the property market, as well as redesigning and renovating their perfect Paris pied-à-terre.
Of all the places in the world, Paris is the city that always captures my heart, and which I consider the best city in the world in terms of scale, civic amenities, architectural integrity, historical preservation, urban development, parks and open space, international-mindedness, not to mention the incomparable arts and culture. I have been spending time in France, and Paris in particular, since 1983, and it still takes my breath away.

Why they chose this property
The neighborhood of the Louvre-Palais Royal is one of the oldest in Paris, the area where royalty and the court lived. If you're going to spend time in Paris, live like the kings and queens in the right "quartier"!
I chose this apartment for the historical neighborhood and amazing central location. Although you can walk everywhere worth going in minutes, or bike there even faster, it is also a transportation hub for buses and trains. When I walk through the porte cochere into the courtyard, I imagine arriving in a coach, horses hooves clip-clopping on the pavers. The Oratoire du Louvre around the corner was the Royal Chapel of Louis XIII who held court next door at the Louvre, and Saint Eustache where the kings were baptised is up the street. I love getting off at my bus stops at the Pont des Arts or at the Louvre and walking through the grandeur and symmetry of the Cour Carré, still home to fashion royalty, and catching a few bars of the flutists or cellists or opera singers who perform under the archways.

What makes this property unique
There is really no such thing as the "typical" Parisian apartment, as the buildings in each "quartier" or neighborhood were erected within the context of a specific historical period. For example, the Latin Quarter is a medieval warren of narrow staircases and tiny rooms, but palatial apartments with rooftop terraces on the Champs de Mars and in the 16th arrondisement cater to the high society and large families of the Haussmannian era. Working class apartments line the Seine north of the Rue Cler area, built for dock workers unloading materials for the western development, while stone-cut mansions pepper the Marais where the kings and corrupt ministers set up their mistresses.
What I love about my current home is the charming courtyard view which is a quiet retreat from the activity of the lively street outside and calm place to regather energy before going out into the bustling city again.
The ceilings are low and cozy, a reminder from the 1700's that the floor above the shops at street level were often workshops or lodgings for shopkeepers.
I always get a good night's sleep nestled in the alcove which has no windows, and allows me to wake with soft side-light coming in from the bedroom sitting area window in the morning.
