Cottage for Two, Hill Country Views, Farm Fresh Eggs, Dog Friendly!
Our Carriage House in San Antonio sits on seven acres in the Texas hill country. The circa-1929 limestone cottage is a reclaimed barn with the original sliding doors affixed to the outside. Inside the spacious open area, you'll find an exposed limestone wall and concrete floors. The queen bed has a cushy, comfy mattress topper. The round window in the front has a unique architectural design of cut limestone. The window over the kitchen sink gives a bucolic view of the vegetable garden and horse pasture. The seating area features a unique niche in the wall that looks like a fireplace mantel. The oversized bathroom/dressing room features a glass, walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head and a towel warmer. Every window in the cottage has a woodland view of trees, wildlife or horses. The front porch, with comfortable chairs, is a great spot for greeting the morning with a cup of coffee and pastries. Around the back of the Carriage House is a place to sit with a glass of tea or wine and enjoy the hill country views. Down by the old rock wall there is a fire pit so you can roast marshmallows or make s'mores. You can say hello to our concierge ponies, Jack and Starbuck, and perhaps offer them a piece of apple through the fence. And, our chickens are happy to provide you with farm fresh eggs.
We are just 13 miles from Fiesta Texas and 15 miles from Seaworld. Local-flavor restaurants include El Chaparral, Grey Moss Inn and Scenic Loop Cafe. There are food trucks just a mile down the road at Dino's and Gino's Liquors.

About Linda Klar
My great grandparents bought this property along with more than 500 acres so they could farm and run a dairy. Erich and Lydia Menger spent more than 30 years there. After their passing, their four children inherited the property. My grandmother, her brothers and their families continued farming but in 1973, it was decided to sell the property. As a little girl, I was devastated to lose my favorite playground. I vowed that someday I would by the ranch back. The man who bought the ranch sold off the acreage but in 2000 the seven acres that contained the original houses and sheds came on the market. With my husband's support, I WAS able to buy the ranch back! I also got the pony I'd always wanted from childhood.
Linda Klar purchased this Cottage in 1929
Why Linda Klar chose Bexar County
We enjoy the wildlife, the history, the farm ways. We hope you enjoy the charming old rock house, the vantage points from which you can relax and see the mountains. Our special location allows you to enjoy Old Town Helotes with cute shops, market days, bicycling and live country music. Seaworld and Fiesta Texas are just 15 miles away. La Cantera mall offers department stores and your favorite shops. UTSA and Southwest Research are close by. And you can enjoy a day at the Riverwalk downtown and the retreat from the sounds of the city to the peaceful chirping of cicadas.

Ideal in every sense
As you drive along the main road leading to this place, you see some of the local and traditional charm along the way. Old-town Helotes and Floore's Country Store, but also some restaurants worth visiting. Then, you take a quick turn to the cottages. There's a tree-lined road that leads to the charming cottage on the right, and the carriage house on the left. It's cool and quiet inside, and it's set up for familiarity and comfort. There are some really interesting books inside if you just want to chill. There's a pleasant walk outside, some nice drives. Bikes would be great. On your forays nearby, you can go see the river walk and The Alamo and some super shoppin' and galleries. You can head out to Gruene Town Hall and take a spin on the dance floor with a good band. This place is just a great location. And... the air smells good outdoors.
Nice place to Stay
We enjoyed our stay and appreciated Linda allowing us to bring our dog. It was a beautiful cozy spot.
My girlfriend and our two dogs absolutely loved this place! It was so cute and cozy and the owner is such a nice and down to Earth Person.
A little piece of Heaven
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. It was better than we expected and the pictures don't do it justice. We desperately needed some r&r and we got plenty at the Carriage House. We loved petting the horses, visiting with the owners and learning about the history of the property. The farm fresh eggs were perfect for breakfast. My husband and I enjoyed a few lazy days in the cottage and found it difficult to get up, get out and go sight-seeing in San Antonio. We were just too comfortable. We miss this place already and can't wait to book it again. We would like to go back with friends and family to share this piece of Heaven with them too!
Cute, larger than anticipated, peaceful setting,
Great experience, place is very peaceful - was perfect place to stay while my son attend Sea World camp. Only took us about 15 minutes to get there each morning. Linda was extremely helpful and place was cozy and stocked with all necessities. Having washer and dryer facilities next door was so helpful. The horses were an added bonus to my son, as was the hammock. Thanks for the great treatment!
Peaceful and charming escape.
This little cottage has everything two people need! My husband and I spent a week here after two weeks in a San Antonio studio room. It was nice to get away by ourselves, cook some of our favorite meals in the full kitchen and enjoy sitting in the two comfy porch chairs with coffee in the morning and cocktails in the afternoon. Owners Linda and Joe provide everything you need for a comfortable stay, even some farm fresh eggs from their chickens who live on this quaint little ranch. The best part, however are the views from every window. I loved seeing their two horses, Jack and Starbuck, out the kitchen window each morning (fed them some carrots too!). The cottage has an updated huge bathroom with a waterfall shower head, some cool, comfy eclectic chairs for TV viewing and for the book lover, small stacks of books scattered throughout to read or peruse. Also, we like to golf so there are plenty of places to enjoy a round or two nearby. We like Cedar Creek which is only 11 miles from this little gem. All in all a great stay...this place will not disappoint:). Rick & Cathy

It's all about relaxation and rejuvenation at Menger Cottages. Find out more about the Big Cottage at vrbo #373236.
