About The Owner

Kim and Steve own the Konkapot Lodge in Bowler, WI and take pride in making your vacation a memorable experience. We love the peace, quiet and scenery of the north woods and know you will too.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2008

Why The Owner chose Wisconsin

We live across the field from 'Camp Okee-Dokee', and bought the property because we wanted to preserve the log home for family retreats. We opened for renting in the summer 2011.

What makes this cabin unique

If you have a crazy job and schedule and just need peace, quiet, and are content with star-filled evenings and watching wildlife--this is the perfect place. We've hosted many family gatherings there and there is plenty of space for everyone. Being together, playing games, reading, etc are all important, but if you also want gaming action or live entertainment, we are centrally located (within 16 miles) of three native owned casinos.

Relaxing and quant cabin

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cabin last weekend and was pleasantly surprised with the size of the cabin. Good size bedrooms, 2 living areas, nice eat-in kitchen with center island opened to one of the living areas, along with a formal dining room. Beautiful double sided fireplace. Tons of books, puzzles, board games in their collection that we definitely enjoyed. There was even a deck of cards with poker chips that we used for a fun night. Simple things that made our trip a bit more memorable and relaxing. It was too cold outside for us to take full use of the backyard, but it is a nice set-up with a playground and 3 hammocks! Private lake is easy walk away. Nice long deck in the back with outdoor furniture and gas grill. Note, there is no wifi and cell data is spotty depending on what carrier you have, but that's the whole point - disconnect from the busy city and relax! We couldn't figure out how to use the main bathroom shower, but it was no big deal because the other 2 showers worked fine. Would love to visit this cabin again when the weather warms up and enjoy more of the outdoors. Owners were easy to work with. They live next door to the property but didn't intrude. Very nice owners! Thanks for a great weekend.

Peaceful, easy feeling.

  • 4 of 5

The property was clean and was everything it was represented to be. Our family had a nice peaceful get-together there and would consider coming back for another stay in the future. Very nice size for eight adults with plenty of furniture to relax in.

We did not meet the owner but talked with her on the phone. She called to see if everything was okay, which it was.

Overall, a nice place.

Serene Woods Experience

  • 5 of 5

From the log cabin to the wind whispering in the trees, Camp Okee-Dokee was a picturesque getaway for my husband, me, and our three golden retrievers. They loved the woods trail (a perfect 1mi jaunt even my pregnant belly and I could waddle along), and went swimming off the dock during our unseasonably warm November stay. The edges of the lake are boggy, but the water was clear. We didn't use the boats, but there were several, along with a shed full of life vests and other water gear. There are hundreds of acres of public forest right across the street for those who want more vigorous hiking or hunting.

The cabin itself was lovely. The furniture was comfortable and plentiful for an extended family. The double-sided gas fireplace was our favorite feature. There are several book cases filled with reading material and DVDs (basic TV is included, but spotty depending on weather), as well as an entire closet full of games and puzzles. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, dishes, cleaning supplies, and even an assortment of spices. They also have a washer & dryer for guest use. Our Sprint cell phones had a voice signal on the back deck, but no data coverage.

Some notes about dogs: They are welcome here! Max, Kim & Steve's shepherd mix, is extremely friendly and got along great with our retrievers. We let the dogs play off-leash for the most part as the house is set back far from a quiet street, but we did use 30-ft leads and a stake in the lawn after dark. If your dog tends to run into woods with wild excitement, be aware that the neighbor has a barbed wire fence about 10ft into the trees along the side of the yard. They only run into it once. The house is well-equipped to handle dogs of all sizes. The master bedroom has its own door and deck, and there is a mudroom with its own door, which worked well as a staging area to wipe paws and check for ticks. YES, this is Wisconsin and there will be ticks 9 months of the year. Even if you don't normally apply Frontline, etc. you should apply preventative before visiting. Keep in mind that most don't repel ticks, but will kill them if they bite or stay on the fur. Bring a fine-tooth comb and check the dogs' head, ears and belly before allowing them back into the house - even if they only play in the lawn. To prevent any ticks from coming home with you, throw worn clothing and stuffed animals into the dryer before packing. We did this and haven't had any problems.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. While it is ok when dogs jump in, the bog lakes are cold and dark and not suitable for swimming. FYI-- the Forest Crop Land across the road you mentioned is only through 2017; however, there are lots of other similar recreational acreage in the area. We are in the process of putting together a guide of hiking trails in the area this winter. Max has an odd way of showing it to people, but he does love company! Happy holidays, and best wishes to you and your growing family.
