About The Owner

Kim and Steve own the Konkapot Lodge in Bowler, WI and take pride in making your vacation a memorable experience. We love the peace, quiet and scenery of the north woods and know you will too.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2008

Why The Owner chose Bowler

We live across the field from 'Camp Okee-Dokee', and bought the property because we wanted to preserve the log home for family retreats. We opened for renting in the summer 2011.

What makes this cabin unique

If you have a crazy job and schedule and just need peace, quiet, and are content with star-filled evenings and watching wildlife--this is the perfect place. We've hosted many family gatherings there and there is plenty of space for everyone. Being together, playing games, reading, etc are all important, but if you also want gaming action or live entertainment, we are centrally located (within 16 miles) of three native owned casinos.

Nice and quiet

  • 4 of 5

This place was very clean and well stocked with supplies. It was large enough to sleep 8 and maybe someone on the couch! :) The fire pit acted as a hot dog/marshmellow cook out which I haven't done in a while. Very peaceful with one neighbor that kept to themselves. I am not a fan of well water and the smell that comes with it so make sure you bring lots of bottled water. In fact, make sure you are well stocked with food as they do have a general store but nothing else.

Tranquil and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

Overall a nice property to come to if you are looking for peace and tranquility. When we arrived to the property everything was nice and clean however refrigerator was not working. We contacted the owners and Steve came quickly and got it running again. Would not recommend using the hot tub. My son tried and some pretty dark resin came out of it. Back deck is very nice and relaxing. We adopted a black cat during our stay that was very friendly that we enjoyed sharing our dog's dog food with. Grill works but needs some repairs. The two lakes on the back of the property are fine for rowing but would not recommend for fishing. We went into Shawano and Wausau for that. Would recommend to the owners to invest in Wifi. It actually would support the surrounding communities on places to go in the area. Very limited cell service. We would go outside of the front of the house to upload emails and texts. Beds are very comfortable and kitchen is very well supplied. Steve did provide some suggestions on places to go which was nice. Did not have an opportunity to meet Kim.

A very peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous. Each room has a very inviting atmosphere. The beds were very comfortable and the fans supplied made it very comfortable to sleep. The kitchen was fabulous and had everything you needed, including spices you may have forgotten! The livingroom and master bedroom (in case you have a little withdrawl from your "normal" life) even has a TV. The washer and dryer made going home much better, by having clean clothes to unpack , rather than dirty ones. I also did all of the towels and bedding upon leaving, in hopes of making it easier on the owner, to get it prepared for the next guests.

It has all the amenities you could ask for. Their were plenty of games supplied (for all ages) and a huge book selection (also for all ages) to keep anybody from getting bored. There were also 3 bicycles in the shed that we made use of. (The 4th one had a flat tire. I forgot to let her know). Also, in the room with the washer and dryer, there were things to use to start a bonfire.(in the little cabinet on the wall).

For anybody wanting to fish, I suggest going to the spots listed in the website. My cousin and I did go out on the lake closest to the cabin, but we had to keep emptying the rowboat, so it must have a tiny leak somewhere. That made it more memorable and we had fun anyways. The water is quite murky and filled with lily pads. I did not, however, make it over to the other lake, which Kim said has the perch in it.

I would definitely rent this cabin again. It would be a great place to have a family get together. It is very remote and tranquil, yet a store/gas station is not too far away. I did not get to meet Kim while I was there, but she did call twice to see if we needed anything or if we wanted suggestions on places to go or things to do.

I give this place a big "thumbs up" and would highly recommend it. My suggestion to you is to read the paper she leaves on the counter right when you get there and do digging around inside the cabin so you know what is all available. (We found the fire starter sticks after we wasted a whole bunch of paper towels to keep it lit).
