Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)
Our rustic log cabin, nestled into a hillside at 8100 feet elevation, looks out across a valley at the spectacular 14,000-foot Sangre de Cristo mountain range, in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Located 35 minutes on well maintained gravel mountain roads from Canon City. Several brand new beds(may 2014 they were purchased), making all beds in the cabin comfortable!!! Kicking back on the front deck, you have a panoramic view of mountains on three sides. And, sitting on a private 11-acre wooded lot, you have peace, quiet and seclusion – your nearest neighbor is 400 yards away. The cozy great-room/kitchen area is the perfect place for family fun – a gas fireplace, comfy sofas around a game table, and a fully equipped kitchen. The three bedrooms sleep six comfortably, with space for 2 more if you use the sofa for 1 and 1 pull out cot, and sleeping bags in the rooms. Just a few minutes away from the San Isabel national forest, you have access to Buffalo Peaks, Collegiate Peaks, Mount Massive, Sangre de Christo and Spanish peaks wilderness areas. Fantastic white-water rafting and tubing, or exciting fly-fishing await you on the Arkansas River, a 30-minute drive from the cabin. You can mountain bike right out the front door, cycling a few minutes down the road, or explore a fire road up the Wet Mountains for hours. If you are more of an ATV fan, this area of Colorado is loaded with some of the best trails with the most amazing views. Or, if you just want to sit in peace and quiet and enjoy a breath-taking view, this simple cabin is for you. Come and find your balance, re-charge your batteries, inspire your senses and sleep peacefully as a baby in this warm and sturdy cabin, but it is not luxurious.

About Kimberly Reed
We are a family currently living on both sides of the Atlantic. We have lived in Boston, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Denver. But our favorite place in the world is the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountain range in southcentral Colorado. We are 'outdoor people' - love to hike with our dogs, take beautiful photos of nature, canoe on a lake or river, cross-country ski through a forest. And at the end of the day, take the time to cook a gourmet meal together and enjoy a nice glass of wine. We are also voracious readers and love board games.
Kimberly Reed purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Kimberly Reed chose Cañon City
The cabin was love at first sight. We are not Club Med or Hilton Hotel people. But we are nature/peace and quiet people. This rustic log cabin was barely visible from the road, hidden by pines, nestled into the side of a hill. It sits up higher than all of the other properties around it. With huge windows on three sides of the Great Room, you have commanding views of Locke Mountain/San Isabel National Forest and the Sangre de Cristos. We also value 'quiet' - living in, or near, a large city for most of our lives, it is nice to be in at a place where you actually hear nothing but the gentle breeze through the pinion pines, an occasion bird chirping, the braying of the neighbors donkey. Often, ou hear nothing at all. A car passes maybe once or twice an hour - and even then, it is 400 yards away, and down a hill. We chose this cabin as a perfect get-away for ourselves, never thinking that we would rent it out to others. The only reason we are not in Denver now enjoying our cabin is because of job opportunities abroad in Sweden. This cabin is perfect year-round (provided you have a good 4-wheel drive vehicle in the snowy months, or chains on your tires).
What makes this Cabin unique
For nature-lovers, hunters and fly-fishermen on the Arkansas River (17 miles from the property) peaceful and majestic mountain views. Relaxing , away from all noise, cooking and enjoying friends on the deck. Simple with no distractions, yet having everything you need - a full bath, fully equipped kitchen, well-appointed great room and three bedrooms. Because our 11 acres is fairly secluded, you can even enjoy skeet and target shooting on the Northeast corner of the property. We are only 500 yards across a valley from the San Isabel National forest. You are a mile from the local Country Store, where you can get the best steak dinner and country/bluegrass show in the area.

WARNING! Don't rent this cabin unless you like dangerous drives and crappy decor. Deserves 0 stars!
So disappointed in this rental. The listing says "well maintained gravel mountain roads". That's far from the truth. It's about 15 miles of red dirt road, full of ruts, very narrow, and then you also have to drive about 2500ft up the side of a mountain! The road has no guard rails, no signage, and is full of blind curves. 2 cars barely fit up the mountain curves. SUPER steep. I'd only recommend with a Jeep. We also nearly got run off the road by some locals that didn't like how slow we were taking the road. Throwing stuff at us, flipping us off, cursing at us. Great times with 3 kids in the car. The road once you get to the cabin is also very steep, loose dirt with huge dips and holes in it. The cabin from the outside looks cool and I'll admit the view is amazing. The great room is ok and had a cool view and feel. But couches are old and dirty feeling. And every light fixture in it didn't match. Plus ones throughout the house with more than 1 bulb only had 1 bulb in it. Which made the place dark. It heats with a propane stove, which of course creates an awful smell. Along with electric floor heaters that are way too close to the beds and drapes. I feared a fire so turned them off overnight. The bedding in every room was old, dingy and smelled. The decor is like sleeping in your 90 year old great aunt's house! The "half bath" is a joke!!! It's an added on room that has no way to heat it really, no window covers and was full of random junk. It's just a toilet and sink in an added on room. Oh speaking of toilets there wasn't a single roll of toilet paper in the cabin! Thank god we had a box of tissues to use!! No paper towels either. The shower head basically just spits on you, making it impossible to rinse off properly. And has a nasty screen they want you to leave in and clean after usage. yuck. The laundry room looked like a death trap and in 99% of homes wouldn't be up to code for sure. Washer and dry both kinda stank. After taking the sheets off the beds when we left, a day early, I discovered the mattress pads had blood stains and water stains on it (urine probably) and at least one mattress looked like it was from the 60s.. Can you say bed bugs??!!
The place was a joke... And an expensive and not funny one. Highly dangerous drive, followed by really crappy amenities. Don't be fooled by the pictures or the view. The place is a dump. The deer in the morning were cool. We didn't go back the 2nd night. Owner made excuses and offered no refund.
We would like to remind our readers of this review to please read the detailed description. We do keep a clean cabin as other renters have indicated and if there is a problem we try to immediately take care of it. We have a professional cleaning company who cleans after each party. We also advertise a Rustic, not fancy Cabin, but it has all you need. We will be renovating the half bath this upcoming summer 2018, but its nice to have something close during the night. To our future readers please read other reviews to gain a more balanced view of peoples experience. ( the explanation for the dryer and washer could be that our cleaners don't clean the linens there. I will make sure they run it to keep fresh anyway.) The Colorado Roads are common and we explain that they can be very steep. You are in the mountains and that is to be expected. This road is used all the time by locals and tourists. Yes it is steep. We do expect there to be a couple of rolls of toilet paper there and I have notified our cleaners. We do apologize for that. We clearly state on the site what is provided in the cabin and then you are able to plan ahead. The gas fire place does not leave a smell of propane.
Family get away
Overall the property is fine-no air conditioning though so it was stuffy at night as the temps were in 90's. Could use some deep cleaning and updates. The owner/manager does not reply to questions very quickly via email--still waiting on reply about bringing a pet--we didn't because it says they are "considered" so we asked--no reply--no pet brought. Location is remote--it will take you every minute of the 45 it says it is from Canon city. I have dealt with home away many times and always a good experience - just a little disappointed from the lack of response. This was a short family vaca so we enjoyed spending time together anyway!!
We wondered if you used the fans that are in every room? They really help the cabin not be stuffy and at night the temp drops. Glad all went well however. The drive depends on the individuals. We and most do it in 30 minutes from the loaf and jug. So I don't want to miss lead other travelers. From other outer parts of Canon City it could be longer.
Thanks for you stay and as I responded earlier, we had been traveling in a remote area with out wifi for those few days and missed your question. Usually we are very good at getting back to our quests. We apologize for that. Kim
Relaxing and peaceful
We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. We were looking for a peaceful and quiet area and that's what we got. The cabin was clean and everything was in good working condition. We also had great views of the sunset over the mountains. Thank you Kimberly for your help in this booking!
Cabin was great
The girls and I had a blast and the cabin was wonderful, would recommend this to those who love the mountains and outdoors. Cabin was close to everything we wanted to do
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's a wonderful place. Not fancy but so has the most beautiful surroundings and it's very cozy. There are many cool things to do with nature , tubing and the Royal George and Westcliffe.
Secluded and peaceful
The cabin slept all 6 of us very comfortably. It was clean and a great view of the mountains. We had a lot of fun and got the experience we were looking for in the San Isabel Mountains.
Needs an update
Nice location, but it needs a little pampering. Beds were comfortable but there was only one shower. Just a lot of details that could make this nice place a great place. If you are expecting luxury, this isn't it. Just funny things like none of the overhead light fixtures matched and there were four in the main room. Worth a laugh anyway, must have been a sale!! Everything worked and we weren't there that much. The wild life outside the windows made up the difference.
Royal Gorge, White Water Rafting, Arkansas River Fishing, Tubing, peaceful, picturesque, ATV trails all around the Cabin in San Isabel National forest, which backs up to our cabin. Tubing in the summer months on the Arkansas river. Hiking on many trail available, close by and a short drive to the San De Cristo Mountain range in Westcliff. Bowling and restaurants
