***The Elliott House will be closing for the season on 11/19/2018 and will re-open 5/1/2019.
*** Although the season is over, we are booking for 2019 and beyond.
The Elliott House was built in 1864 and is comfortably secluded on 5 acres of well-manicured lawn, flower beds and towering maple trees, yet only minutes away from the local universities. The house is surrounded by beautiful meadows and is only 4 miles away from the beautiful St. Lawrence River, that borders the U.S and Canada. All bedrooms are generously equipped with luxurious bedding with access to wireless high-speed internet and they all come standard with a healthy dose of historical charm, not to mention the ample views of wildlife in the fields.
Although the Elliott House is 154 years old, it has been greatly updated to maximize your comfort while at the same time preserving a lot of the history and charms that will make you want to return again and again, like many of our past guests. The house has central air that cools the main floor and one bedroom as well as the bedrooms upstairs. The Elliott House has a whole home filtration system so you can drink the water from the well and wash your clothes without worrying of staining them from mineral content found in some country homes. We also have bottled water delivered for your comfort.
The Elliott House is our vacation home and you will find things in the cupboards and fridge, for experienced renters, might find odd, such as brownie mix etc, but feel free to use what is there. I found that most of our guests are rather new to HomeAway and come in late and may not have gotten groceries to hit the ground running, so we provide a stocked fridge to prepare breakfast your first morning, including my wife's secret recipe for pancakes, bacon and pure maple syrup.
The house has an enclosed porch with a knotty pine ceiling and a back patio where we like to have our coffee in the morning, There is a rustic fire pit and lawn chairs in the mudroom for your use to roast marshmallows and enjoy great family time.
Plan your perfect day trip to Lake Placid, Ottawa, or Montreal is only a short drive away. Take in 18 holes of golf in town or just stroll the streets of town along the St. Lawrence River. The Universities, Clarkson, St.Lawrence, SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam are only a stones throw away from the Elliott House.
We truly want you to enjoy your stay and have a great experience visiting northern N.Y. We love our home and are sure you will too.
The home was once owned by Jim and Jesse Elliott and I was raised on the Farm across the road. Jim was a surveyor for the Gas company and Jesse was a housewife raising two girls. I always remembered how Jesse labored over her flower beds and had one of the best manicured yards in the North Country. No matter the season, you could always find a flower bed in full bloom...I always enjoyed the Lilac bushes.
It wasn't until after I purchased the place did I realize that the Elliott's always had the best of everything. Although the scalloped carpets are gone and replaced with gorgeous hardwood flooring. Most of the wallpaper has been removed revealing the beautiful old plaster walls. It was definitely a house made from love and think that Jim and Jesse would be happy of the work that has been done to the house to maintain that era of days gone by.
