Rustic cottage on lake near Pictured Rocks, fishing, island, canoe, boats

Bedrooms 2
Space 940 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, Rustic cottage, sleeps 6 to 8, Peaceful setting, Hiawatha Forest!

Our Cottage on Baldy Lake, a cozy little cottage on 10 acres, provides rustic simplicity , fishing, canoeing and the tranquil charm of life in the north woods of the Hiawatha National Forest. Our cottage on Baldy Lake has a view of the water, in an isolated spot away from the hustle and bustle of the highway (but only 2 miles away). If you like camping and being on your own lake, but don't like sleeping on the ground, our cottage on Baldy Lake will give you the comfort of beds and convenience of gas lights without sacrificing some of the camping feel. Although this is rustic, the cottage is beautifully done in tongue and groove aspen and decorated with wildlife decor. We are not without the very basic amenities including a composting toilet and battery operated shower. This is a regular shower stall and you only need to heat water from the pitcher pump on the stove, mix it with cold water to your desired temperature and then it is drawn up via a battery operated pump into the shower stall. The kitchen is fully stocked including gas range and gas refrigerator. No electricity, no carpeting, so bring your slippers!

The screened in porch offers outdoor furniture for relaxing and gazing at the lake, reading, visiting and watching the wildlife while keeping the mosquitoes out! :) You might prefer to take a walk on the old two tracks that meet up with hiking trails or take your 4 wheeler for a ride. Jump in the fishing boat or canoe, and try for the elusive black crappie, bluegill, large mouth bass, small mouth bass, perch, northern pike, sunfish or rock bass.

If you’re ready for more, you’re only 12 miles from Pictured Rocks and all our beautiful Munising area has to offer. Miles of hiking trails; many, many waterfalls; Pictured Rocks Boat Cruises, hand dipped ice cream, don't worry if you don't catch any fish, just go to Munising to our local fisheries and buy some fresh Lake Trout or White Fish. Even us locals sneak in there once in awhile! :)

Area Attractions:

Located in the Hiawatha National Forest, you can fish, canoe, jump in for a "rustic" swim (soft bottom), read, nap, listen to wildlife, watch wildlife, grill your dinner, listen and dance to the radio, play a board game, on site. There are a few sandy spot around the lake where you can swim.

Nearby you can go hiking and biking (trails from door), golfing, horseback riding, antiquing, visit our sugar sand beaches and swim in Lake Superior's pristine waters, go to Music in the park, Farmers Market, Pictured Rocks cruises, Grand Island Ferry and Tours, water ski and jet ski.

We are about 2 hours west of Mackinac Bridge and 60 minutes east of Marquette.

Great UP cabin getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very cozy and clean! It is at the end of a long dirt road but we had not trouble finding it. We brought most of our own food, so the fridge was great to have, and the kitchen worked out perfectly for everything we needed. Our phones (verizon and sprint) did not work at the cabin, but we didn't need them for much of anything.

We were at full capacity, but everyone fit very well. The loft did get a little hot at night, but with the window open and a breeze it cooled right now. The covered patio was great retreat when the weather turned, and to enjoy morning coffee while looking at the lake :) The location on the lake is just great, every morning there was something to see out there. My two nieces (age 7&9) loved seeing bald eagles every morning, got to see turtles laying eggs, and caught a few fish. We even saw the northern lights on our last night!

Working with the property manager leading up to our stay and throughout the stay was very easy, especially considering we changed our numbers a few times. Very responsive! I would recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a nice, pretty, UP get away.

The Camp at Baldy Lake

  • 5 of 5

The Camp at Baldy Lake is my favorite place to vacation! If you are looking for a place that is peaceful, to recharge from your busy life, this is Hiawatha's best kept treasure (In my opinion). It takes you back in time, with its gas lamps & sink with hand pumped water (our girls LOVED this.. called it the "Laura Engels Cabin") I have stayed at this cottage 3 times different times over the past 3 years and have always left wishing I had more days there. The owners are amazing & helpful. It's always clean & they have it furnished with anything you can possibly need for a rustic vacation.

Great for fishing and kayaking, plus tons of local lakes a quick drive away for more adventures. There is a GORGEOUS swimming beach / park on a nearby neighboring lake that's perfect for a family picnic. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, peaceful and away from all the hustle and bustle.

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed four days of hiking, canoeing, kayaking the Pictured Rocks and cooling off in Pete's Lake. It's a wonderful escape to unplug completely without having to pitch a tent, dig a hole and sleep on the lumpy ground. Perfect for us city dwellers!
