Beautiful house, needs more care.

  • 4 of 5

Overall we were pleased with our stay at Casa Mariposa. The rental company was pleasant and easy to work with. The home is beautiful, but we were a little disappointed in the lack of care. A few of the issues that we experienced that could of simply be avoided with a little care are:

1. Back deck unusable.. needs a good power washing.

2. Dirty dishes.. half of the "clean put away dishes" needed rewashing. Maybe check them before next renters

3. Stairs up to house and sidewalk covered in rotting fruit... Need to do a quick sweep right before renters arrive. I would expect fruit to fall, but you should present the property on first arrival as clean.

These were all minor issues that did not deter us from enjoying our stay in such a beautiful home. But, for very minimal work these items would not have been issues at all.

Also, I know a home on the water can quickly get musty and have minor mold problems, especially when closed up for periods of time. It would be nice if the home had been aired out and the air had been turned on right before our arrival.

Beyond Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

I travel a lot. And it's so refreshing to stay somewhere that not only lives up to what you hoped it would be but exceeds it in every way. Chris met us at the airport, took us to the grocery store, and got us to the house. The photos don't truly capture how beautiful Casa Mariposa is. We walked to the Cosmic Crab for dinner, enjoyed trips to other islands, it was the prefect getaway that we needed. Thanks!!

Nice & Clean

  • 4 of 5

A 5 min boat ride from the main town so nice & quiet. Beautiful house in nature. The architecture & design is great. Beds were comfortable & the water pressure was good as long as both showers aren't being used at the same time. I wished there was a little beach & the cushions on the couch & chairs were hard but we were out exploring most of the time anyway.

The people were responsive & friendly we'd rent through them again.

Casa Mariposa

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at Casa Mariposa. We were there for the month of November. It is a wonderful place to spend time and relax. It is close enough to town by water taxi and far enough away from town for peace and relaxation. The house has a large porch where we spent a lot of our time enjoying the atmosphere and hanging out with friends. The house has a rainwater catching system. The only issue we had was running out of water a few times when the water tanks were empty. Jenica and Tyson were awesome host. They were just a phone call away if we need their assistance and they took immediate action to ensure our vacation place was the best that it could be.

A beautiful house

  • 2 of 5

This house is very beautiful. The pictures on the listing don't begin to give you a "picture" of how beautiful as well as spacious this house is. The kitchen was fully equipped with just about everything you would need for cooking. The view from the house and all the patios was remarkable. It is equipped with two master bedroom, nicely appointed with king beds in each. The property was very clean and fairly well maintained.

All that being said, I had many issues with this house. There simply was not ONE comfortable chair in the house to curl up in and either watch TV or read a book. The house has four patios, three of which have nice water views, one with a jungle view. Yet only one of the patios had any type of furniture to sit in and enjoy the view and that was the front patio which only had a teak dining table and chairs. These chairs were functional but not particularly comfortable to relax and enjoy the view.

The Internet was not working during my stay.

The tile in the shower I used had several holes in it.

And while the idea of living on an island that you have to use a water taxi to get to sounds enticing, after awhile it gets very annoying to have to call a boat to go anywhere. Having to haul gear and supplies in the small boats was not the least bit fun. The boats themselves are very small and difficult to get into and out of. Most of the time I did so on my hands and knees to feel safe doing so. Also, there is no lighting whatsoever on the dock. Coming back several times on dark, moonless nights I was afraid that I might walk of the side of the dock on my way back to the house.

I came to Bocas del Toro with two goals. One was to go diving. The other was to relax and catch up on some reading. The diving was very forgettable and I would not recommend Bocas as a dive location. I was also disappointed that this house did not provide the comfort necessary to let me enjoy some reading.

Great location, Great House

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at Casa Mariposa. It's a nice quiet location with a beautiful view. The house is well-kept and very comfortable. I would recommend Casa Mariposa to folks visiting Bocas but looking for something outside of town.

Casa Mariposa is located on Isla Carenero in a quiet area. It is a 3 minute boat ride from the heart of Bocas Town. Convenient to town, yet just far enough away to sleep peacefully at night.
