Why Cynthia Jackson chose Northport

This lakefront property was purchased in the early 1900's by the Bradley family and passed down to the current owner. The cabin was started in 1968 and became a summer working project for the entire family.

What makes this cabin unique

Clear days provide views of both North and South Fox Islands. Mackinac sailboats can be seen during the annual race. Not uncommon for sailboats to anchor in the bay overnight. Light from the Lighthouse can be seen at night along with excellent star gazing. This property has the best section of beach on Cathead Bay!

A wonderful setting with a fantastic view!

  • 5 of 5

A return visit for us to "The Cabin" did not disappoint. Lake Michigan demonstrated its many modes from dead calm (great for kayaking) to thunderous whitecaps. We watched these changes from "The Cabin's" wide deck, what a treat! The water was cool, but not cold and the beach was beautiful. All in all a great week.

Third fall visit to Cathead Bay

  • 5 of 5

This was our third fall visit to the Cabin on Cathead Bay, and we enjoyed it in every way. During our three night stay, we had one stormy day, with ferocious winds and 6 foot waves just outside the door, and two lovely fall days, good for hiking the many nearby trails and visits to Northport and Leland. This is the perfect place for a quiet getaway, a lot of book reading and relaxing with Lake Michigan steps away. I expect we will return again.

Perfect Northern Escape

  • 5 of 5

We had a thoroughly delightful stay at the Cabin on Cathead Bay. The setting is superb! Nestled in the woods north of Northport, it is very peaceful and quiet, no automotive traffic, only beach walkers, boaters and wildlife! During one kayaking adventure we sighted three bald eagles flying over the Bay.

The cottage is compact, clean and well equipt. Unlike many rentals, this cabin does not have an excess of unnecessary items including owners personal belongings that clutter up space. It is spartan, but addresses all your needs. In other words you won't find every cup, plate, dish or glass that the owner doesn't want in his/her home. If you've rented much, you know what I mean!

The cottage is a good space for a couple, two couples or a family of 3 or 4. The large living room window and deck provided spectacular views of Lake Michigan. Easy access to the beach made beach combing and walks a breeze. We really enjoyed building fires in the fire pit and making s'mores.

While a bit remote (which adds to its charm), the cottage is about a 15 minute drive to Northport, a quaint town with shops, restaurants and a grocery store - the town has most anything you might need. And Northport is just one of many wonderful places to visit in Leelanau county. We also very much enjoyed visiting nearby farm markets and shared in their August bounty. We plan to return to the Cabin on Cathead Bay!

The proper is wonderful, remote and wild.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was clean and thoughtful provisions were made but the true delight is the setting. Tucked back in the woods, we heard wolves and loons, walked long distances on the beach, enjoyed the total silence and sense of being alone in the world. Fires in the fire pit in the evening added to the fun.
