We’ve been hosting for a while now and take vacations very seriously. We pride ourselves on not only offering our home to others, but, most importantly, on providing a place to call “home” for those visiting Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and all the natural beauty the area has to offer.

We are very fortunate to have engaged a new local property management team to represent Lookout Point on vacation platforms – which is why only reviews for 2025 are populated. We wanted to take a moment to share this with everyone, as reviews are important and your vacation is important to us.

A private, separate cottage shares the 5 acre property. It is occupied and not available for VRBO rental.

This place is a treat. Not only are you close to everything, this home provides a unique Maine living experience. Be prepared for lots of people when you come that are here for Acadia. This house is an oasis after the fun at the park and Bar Harbor. The best Lobster rolls were at places away from downtown. The Lobster Pound just 5 min from the house was amazing. We also loved Havanas for a nicer meal. Get to the park early to get a parking place for hiking or seeing Jordan’s Pond etc. the hikes are spectacular and we also E-biked the miles of carriage trails. A wonderful place.

The view from the living room and proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia are five stars! The property itself worked well for the size of our group, two sides of the house for those who stay up later vs those who don’t. The overall property has an opportunity for some updates. The kitchen cabinets, drawers, and stove were difficult to use but the overall size of the kitchen was great for our group size. It is more of a character property, notes about the history around the house, but there is also a feel and smell associated with that age/style of property. Great location, great views, just some opportunities that would make it an excellent place.

We agree – our little home in Bar Harbor, known as The Lookout, is very special indeed. We love sharing all that she has to offer to families and friends who visit the Bar Harbor area. * 1 mile to the Entrance of Acadia National Park * 3 miles to the Town of Bar Harbor * Private pebble beach * Cool ocean air that pours in the open windows * Watching seals play in Frenchman’s Bay * Hearing the call of the coyotes at night coming from the Schoodic Peninsula * Hummingbirds visiting the gardens and feeders * The twinkling lights of Bar Harbor at night or the full moon shining over the water Very true. Her layout is truly unique, and the separate bedroom “wings” do lend themselves to privacy! Thomas, part of the responsibility of owning a “character” home is preservation. While you felt the kitchen cabinets and drawers were “difficult” to use, we respect their “made-in-place” craftsmanship and historic glass fronts. While the kitchen may be a pivot from a “smart” kitchen, we feel that installing a “smart” kitchen in a 1949 midcentury home wouldn’t be that “smart.” Personally, I love to poke through antique stores, and I believe I understand your insinuation; however, since she is our home as well, there’s never been any observation of this nature from anyone – family, friends, or visiting dignitaries. Not sure how the physical “style” of a home, whether it’s mid-century, Victorian, Craftsman, or another, translates into an olfactory experience. Thank you for noting her cleanliness! We have a great team – they are deeply committed to caring for such a unique home. Whether it’s getting her up to speed pre-season by professionally cleaning the windows inside and out, shampooing the upholstery and rugs, or maintaining her in between hosting guests from all over the country, it’s a responsibility that we all take very, very seriously. Thank you again, Thomas, for choosing “The Lookout.” We hope your memories will be cherished for years to come!

The kitchen was nice. The ocean view, private beach, and private property were unbeatable. Kitchen had every tool appliance. And still just 8 minutes to bar harbor. Get a homemade blueberry pie from the first house at the entrance to neighborhood. Will come back again. A couple things to make your stay better, be aware No AC, so bring lightweight sleep wear. And bring or purchase your own shampoo conditioner.

The listing is generally accurate. The house has great views, is a great setup for eight people, and is in an excellent location—far enough from Bar Harbor to avoid the crowds, but close enough to easily get into town and Acadia. Communication was also very good.One thing that wasn’t clear from the listing is that the occupied cottage mentioned in the description is directly adjacent to the rental house, rather than simply somewhere else on the five-acre property. They are also building another house on the property, which resulted in construction noise during our stay that we weren’t expecting. Depending on when construction is completed, this may not be an issue for future guests, but it would have been helpful to know in advance.Otherwise, everything was as advertised. Great views, great location, and a great house for a group of eight.

There is NO building of a new house going on at 65 Lookout Point – not anywhere on the entire five wooded acres. We are, however, excited to welcome a new neighbor to our community who is building their well-earned, long-awaited home after a dedicated career of public service. 2. We are honest and transparent with the declaration that “A private, separate cottage shares the 5-acre property. It is occupied and not available for VRBO rental.” The cottage is private and self-contained, with its own parking and experience. The “main house” is a completely separate entity, with its own expansive parking and a private terrace offering sweeping views of Bar Harbor, Frenchman’s Bay, and Cadillac Mountain. Lookout Point is a legacy property – a family estate – and the family is very proud to offer such a historically significant home where folks can not only reconnect with nature and each other but also experience all the beauty Maine has to offer: eagles soaring overhead, lobster boats busy making their daily catch, wild blueberries, the comings and goings on Frenchman’s Bay, the beauty of Acadia National Park, and the bustling streets of Bar Harbor – all within ten minutes of Lookout Point! Lookout Point is a lovely house with amazing views, beach access, and an easy drive into Bar Harbor and Acadia. We enjoyed kayaking in Hulls Cove area and the wildlife - eagles, seals and loons were highlights. The house was clean with amenities well thought out, the kitchen well equipped, communication excellent, and the rental process smooth.

This is home is a one of a kind property! The architecture, the views, the beach, the location are all perfect. We had six adults and one toddler (1 year old). The house is large enough for everyone to spread out yet enjoy time in the common areas. Brandi (the host) was very helpful and responsive. We will definitely book this property again!

1940s cottage summer home for an affluent family, cliffside. Great views and vibes! Ocean front. We watched Bar Harbors fireworks from the living room. Amazing! Master bed needs replaced, no A/C and there are plenty of bugs. Inside and out!

Girls Trip

The house was as advertised, including the view! Glad to have the history of the house to read, as it gave a whole new perspective to the house and it's history. The layout of the house fit out needs perfectly and LOVED the location... Incredible views everywhere in a quiet and secluded area but close to everything! Just as good as the house were the Host/Owners, which is not always the case when using VRBO or other sites.SO GLAD we chose this house for our vacation. If we ever venture back to the Bar Harbor area, it will at the top of our list!

Perfect place to stay for a multigenerational family vacation, we had a fantastic time! The house has so much unique historic character while also very well maintained and well furnished/decorated. You can’t beat the incredible views of the bay - perfect spot to catch the fireworks on the 4th and watch the lobster fisherman at work. Everyone loved the private rocky beach - excellent spot for kids to explore tide pools and look for sea glass. The location was great - nice quiet, private getaway but with easy access into Bar Harbor and the Hull Cove Visitor Center for access into the park. The host was very responsive and left lots of helpful information around the house. We plan to come back again for another family vacation!

The views were truly gorgeous. There didn’t appear to be softened water. It was a cold week and thermostats seemed to be permanently set low (we could temporarily raise and then they would return ). Only hot water for one shower at a time. No streaming available just cable. It was clean. The beds were comfortable. Well supplied.

To shed some light on your points: Thermostat: We are so sorry that you didn’t reach out to our property manager instead of struggling with the thermostats, and, most importantly, that we are just finding out about this now in this forum! (All contact numbers are listed in several places throughout the home.) The dedicated and skilled team of Lookout Point is on call 24/7 to ensure that our guests have an amazing experience in their “home-away-from-home.” Hot Water: It’s very strange that for a party of two (2), you experienced “not enough hot water for two people taking showers simultaneously.” As owners of the property, we have never experienced this, but thank you for communicating your observation. No Soft Water: To clarify, Lookout Point has a deep well with pure, refreshing water and a water conditioning system that controls pH and acts as a water softener. Since water can be a subjective subject, folks will most likely compare it to what they are accustomed to. No streaming Oh dear! Actually, there is a new (2-year-old) “smart Samsung” TV in the living room/great room. Guests simply log into their favorite streaming service with their credentials and stream their favorite shows when they aren’t out exploring. Nevertheless, we are so happy that you chose Lookout Point as your home while you explored and experienced all that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park have to offer. We all hope you had the opportunity to sit and relax, or look up and see the bald eagles, or watch hummingbirds as they visit the gardens, and, lastly, enjoy the close proximity (1) mile to the entrance to Acadia National Park and (3) miles from the lovely town of Bar Harbor!
