We had a great time staying in the house. It was a very convenient location, and we were able to get to the things we wanted to do easily. It was comfortable and perfect for our family of 2 adults and a teenager. Sleeping at night was really a treat, you could hear the waves from across the street and smell the sweet mango tree right outside of the bedroom window.
We stayed in and cooked most nights, the grill was so nice to have, we even had our friend that lives in Maui over for a couple of meals.
Would love to come again.
The location is great. It is approx. 40 minutes from the airport and Lahaina events, located across the street from a beach (bring water shoes because the path to the beach has some thorns. No crowds, no waves-great for little ones), a short drive further South lands you at great beaches, grocery stores, and good food. It is walking distance to an ABC store, shaved ice and the Sugar bakery. The house was clean. It had plenty of towels for showering and beach days. The outdoor shower was a really great option (cold water - on a hot day it felt great), but I wouldn't call it a third bathroom. It had two sets of snorkel gear and five adult beach chairs, two child chairs. The kayak isn't on site so be sure to ask about it in advance. The kitchen is well stocked with ALL the tools (you provide food) you need for cooking. The beds were all comfortable, they had nice sheets and plenty of pillows. Our group was 5 adults and one 2year old and the place had plenty of space to accommodate our needs. Our little guy loved running in the yard, finding coconuts and looking for a huge snail we named Frankie.
I read some of the other reviews and I understand the complaint about the dryer requiring quarters (1.50 per load). I haven't ever rented a vacation house that had a coin operated dryer before. It should be in the description so people know to bring quarters. We arrived in the winter so we really didn't need the air conditioner very often. We opened doors and had great ocean breezes. The few hours we used it, we had a remote control so that problem seems to be solved. There were ceiling fans and box fans in each bedroom. We were very comfortable. The tv was set up for Netflix and Amazon and Netflix gave us an access code, it was easy to navigate. The WiFi didn't connect immediately on our phones but once we stood on the lanai (after entering password), it solved the problem.
Maui had a severe storm during our stay and it revealed a leak in the ceiling in the master bedroom. It also left us without electricity in some areas of the house for the last 48 hours (tv included) of our visit. Eddie responded to our phone call quickly but the problem wasn't resolved before we left.
I can recommend this house. It is very quiet and while it wasn't secluded, it had that feel. The house is the first one on a private road. If you walk down the dark road on a clear night it is peaceful and you get a pretty spectacular view of the stars. My Grandson enjoyed it.
Our group enjoyed this beach house with its close proximity to Sugar Beach. Walking the beach in the early morning with a stop at the Sugar Beach bakery started the days off on a great note. The location was great for day trips around the island.
The owner, Eddie, told us the 2nd bathroom would be done in April, it was not. Then he said he never said it would be and showed me his emails with me...well not all of them. When I got home, I resent him the email where he said the 2nd bathroom would be ready in April, as we were 2 senior couples that wanted our own separate bathrooms. (Eddie offered to give us our money back, but we arrived after 5, plus had never been to Maui before to know where else to go - thus were forced to stay there with just that 1 bathroom.)
We did like the Kiheil central location on the island with it's breezes. The house had comfortable king beds & nice furniture. The living room air conditioning is on a timer that you cannot control, so sometimes the house was too warm. The front porch was very nice, but you can't see the waves/beach nor sunsets from it. Nice having the ocean just across the busy road. Had a nice stone wall fence with plants. The washer/dryer are in the shed, but you need coins for the dryer. The outside cold water shower by the shed does not constitute a half-bath. Had some water toys, but never saw the kayaks.
Needed Improvements: air conditioning not on a timer, or additional bedroom air conditioning (as ceiling fans not enough) + tub bathmat with grab bar, as tub is very slippery + more than 1 TV set + have Kleenex tissue available & spare paper towels. The place was cleaner when we left than when we arrived + had to clean gas grill to use it + same story on washing machine. Last but not least, be HONEST with people!
My family and I enjoyed our stay in Maui, the owner was very helpful. It would have been easier having a second bathroom (This was under construction and looks to be finished soon). We stayed during the hot weather season in Maui so not having AC in all the rooms would have been nice in the evenings, having AC in the main area was helpful even though most our time was spent on the beaches. Overall for the price I thought this was a good value for a busy on the go family.
Quaint little home with plenty of room for a medium size group 5-8. "Air Conditioning" is a single wall unit in the living room that runs off of solar panels and a timer. It ran from about 10AM to 10 PM. On a hot, humid day it is only capable of lowering the temperature in the living room...that's all. Fans are present in all three bedrooms. There is only one bathroom. There is an outdoor shower head nozzle that's connected to a garden hose...this should hardly be considered a bathroom. Four months ago we were assured that the second bathroom (under construction) would be ready. It is not, nor does it look close. So, this is a one bathroom facility. There is a washer and dryer available for use, but the dryer is coin-operated so bring quarters. Nicely stocked with pots, pans, dishes, blender, towels, etc. Good location. Across the street from the beach. A wall and sand dune separates the house from the ocean, so don't get the impression that you can view the sunset from the lanai. Barbecue available for use, fire pit, and a variety of chairs, beach/snorkel equipment are available for use. There's a picture of a kayak on the VRBO site, but there is no kayak on site. Nicely private from neighbors because of the wall. Very safe for families with young children. I would use this facility again.
Ocean view house, located approximately 30 steps to sugar beach, where you can enjoy a 6 mile beach walk, and all of the water sports and beach activities. You can even paddle a Hawaiian outrigger cannoe. We also have a second 3 bedroom house on another house lot next door. Good for small groups, family, etc. This is a great Kihei location on a private street next to the beach.
