About David Hudnell

This home has been in our family since 1986 and we have made many memories with both family and friends that will last a lifetime.

David Hudnell purchased this house in 1986

Why David Hudnell chose Hatteras Island

The Outer Banks is one of the most laid back vacation spots on the East Coast. It offers great surf fishing and has also become a hot spot for windsurfers with many businesses catering to both of these sports.

Some oddities with the place like the washer/dryer downstairs but all in all the place was great for our family. Very close to public beach access and the grocery store. Kitchen had everything we needed and the rooms were nice. We would stay here again.

Steps to the beach, clean quiet neighborhood. Well stocked kitchen.

This was our second stay at Tidewatch and we had a wonderful week. Only steps to the beach, and an awesome outdoor shower. The house was clean and the views from the deck were beautiful.

I really recommend it for families with kids . Thanks again!

Good times.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a great time at the Tidewatch. Upon arrival the place was clean and everything was in order. The property was closer to the beach than I expected. We enjoyed every minute whether we were on the top deck taking in the view, cooking the days catch on the park grill or using the outside shower after a "tough" day at the beach. We would recommend a stay at Tidewatch to anyone.

Great Avon Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Tidewatch! It was the perfect place to return to after a day at the beach! The outdoor shower was really nice and we spent most of our time at the house on the screened-in porch. Avon is a great town and we would definitely stay again!

A comfy, relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice week at the Tidewatch. The description was accurate and everything was clean and maintained. The only kitchen items we brought were our blender and coffee grinder. We loved the upper deck, especially at night when you could just relax and gaze at the stars. It was also very nice in the morning, where you had a lovely view! We also loved the screened in porch. It was a great place to hang out when it wasn’t too hot out. The outside bathhouse is another big plus. It’s very spacious, and has hooks to hang everything, a bench to sit on or place items on, and an inside door lock. The owners were very kind and welcoming! As far as activities, we loved taking our dogs to the beach. But it’s best to take them in the mornings and late afternoons because of the heat. Also, the sand can become extremely hot, so make sure you wear shoes to the beach! Also, bring mosquito repellant, since they can be a little pesky at times. Our family also had a wonderful dinner at the Open Water Grill. It’s nearby; the food is excellent, as is the service! Another fun thing to do is go into Hatteras Village, to Oden’s dock. We rented the Cap’n Clam for a 2 hour sunset cruise. Absolutely wonderful! Our only bad experience was with the Breakwater restaurant, which is at Oden’s fishing pier. It looked like a very nice place for us to eat after our cruise, but the service was absolutely terrible. That will be a whole separate review, but we do not recommend it. Also, it says in the current Sunny Day guide that they take reservations, but we found out after calling them for two days, that they don’t. As far as this home, we were very happy with it, and may wish to rent it again in the future! In case you for anything there is a food Lion just down the street, about 5 minutes away.

Home of the world famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The Pamlico sound has become a treasured destination for windsurfing and parasailing. The surf fishing is world famous, with many local boats for hire for a deep sea fishing expedition that will leave memories for a liftime. The local resturants have a pipeline to some of the freshest seafood that you will ever taste. There are also many wholesale fish markets to bring home and prepare yourself.

Tidewatch is located a short drive from Nags Head, home of many outlet shops. A lttle futher down the road enjoy the dunes of Jockeys Ridge and Kitty Hawk, the site of the Wright brothers first flight. Take a ride in the southern direction to Hatteras Village and catch the ferry to historic Ocracoke Island where the famous pirate Blackbeard left his mark.
