Overview

About the property

A great Mountain getaway close to many attractions and recreational acitivities

The Mountain House is a three level chalet located on one of the highest points of Pine Mountain, midway between the quaint Georgia towns of Warm Springs, home of Roosevelt's Little White House, and Pine Mountain, home of Callaway Gardens Resort. Our Chalet features two bedrooms plus a loft with a queen size bed, one and a half baths, a fully equipped kitchen and a wonderful stone fireplace available between October and March. Enjoy the high ceilings, open main living area and the wrap around deck with wooded views. The towns of Pine Mountain and Warm Springs are very visitor friendly with Southern hospitality, regional restaurants (we do love our Bar-B-Que!) and specialty shopping and antiquing.

About Michael Lamb

Transplanted Yankees from Ohio, where Joanna and I graduated from Ohio State (Go Bucks!), we moved our Family to Georgia in the early 1980's and never left. We are all Dawgs now, as Michael is an administrator and teacher with Georgia's Technical College System who earned his graduate degree from the University of Georgia. Joanna is a retired research scientist and an avid vegetable gardener. We live nearby in Midland, Georgia near Columbus on the 3 acres Joanna has always wanted for her gardens.

Michael Lamb purchased this chalet in 2002

Why Michael Lamb chose Metro Atlanta, Central & Southern

We bought this property after moving to the area and renting another unit in the small neighborhood of A-frames and Chalets. It was within a short commute of work, and when our current chalet was remodeled, we bought it and it was our primary residence for several years. We loved living there full time and love going back frequently just to relax and enjoy the mountain.

What makes this chalet unique

Our chalet has three levels, an open floor plan with a high ceiling on the main floor and lots of light. It is cozy and has a wonderful deck overlooking the forest. A huge stone fireplace in the lower level is original and available to guests from October to March. We love the peace and quiet, the fresh air, and the pure mountain water that you will want to use to fill your bottled water empties!

Cute little place! Great location! Needs a deep cleaning!

  • 2 of 5

I really hate leaving a bad review of this cute place. The owners were very kind, generous with extra supplies left at the house. They left plenty of paper supplies, condiments, coffee etc. We had 7 of us staying a long weekend, which I think this place would be more comfortable for 5-6 with its one bathroom. Before booking, I read a review on this place saying it needed to be cleaned as there were cobwebs etc. The owner responded saying it was in the woods, so there would be cobwebs. I booked it hoping the cobwebs were cleaned as it was a GREAT price. My son was afraid to sleep on pullout couch downstairs as there were crumbs under the cushions. My mom's bed had crumbs or leaves in the sheets. Doors on main level covered in dust and something splattered all over them. I kept wanting to spray them down and wipe them off. If it was thoroughly scrubbed and painted, this place would have 5 stars! Great location! We enjoyed all the things to do around there!

Owner's Response: For the first time in the years we have been renting the Mountain House, we had to keep the modest $100 damage deposit. The renter did not use the fireplace screen nor it appeared monitor the fires and so the wall to wall carpet was burned in several places, and the rug in front of the fireplace was completely burned through. We make up the beds we advertise with new linens after every rental so any debris in the beds have to come from the renter. We clearly state the available sleeping arrangements which can include an additional queen bed upon request. It wasn’t requested, and the couches are not listed as sleeping capacity including the couches in the lower level which are not pull outs. We have a bath and a half, not one bath. The first floor had dry cereal all over, and there were dry leaves all over the lower level including around the fireplace. Every post-stay cleaning includes spider webs that can be reached without a ladder and glass is cleaned on the inside, tables and furnishings are dusted, every inch vacuumed but we don't move the furniture which was moved around during this rental. High cleaning and painting is done during slow rental periods. We probably should charge more for damage, cleaning (no fee), and pets (no fee), but we want to keep the chalet affordable, and hope our guests will take care of it as a result. We encourage potential renters to read all the reviews when considering the Mountain House for their travel plans.

Great Family House

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a great time in Pine Mountain/Callaway. The house was a perfect fit for our family and our needs. It came fully equipped with everything we needed and included a wonderful fireplace as well. All the teenagers, of course, were a little bummed with there being no wi-fi. Although. it says it has wi-fi, none of us was able to connect at all. Other than that, Michael was so accommodating and kind even when we arrived early. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Owner's Response: So happy they had great time. We had posted no WIFI is available on the website- no real provider on the Mountain- but at the chalet we ordinarily have limited 5 gigs per guest wireless available for checking email and some surfing, but that's not enough to stream. Not teenager friendly, I'm afraid :-), but it's all there is available to us for now.

house was more than adequate for a family of 8

  • 5 of 5

Our 2 grandchildren had so much fun playing with the games and toys in the game

room. Kept them busy.

loved the fact that paper products were already there for us.

We also enjoyed the Christmas tree and the candy canes on it. Kids ate a few.

Property is a little older, but well maintained. The owners really made it a great experience, including a nicely decorated Christmas tree! Would definitely stay there again

'The Mountain House' is located on the top of Pine Mountain, halfway between the towns of Warm Springs, Georgia and Pine Mountain, Georgia. It is adjacent to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) State Park and within walking distance of the Pine Mountain Trail. Our chalet is only fourteen minutes from Callaway Gardens Resort, a beautiful 2,500 acre nature preserve with a wide range of attractions including picnic areas, white sand beaches, hiking/biking trails, golf courses, and spring-fed lakes with fly fishing. Callaway also features a world-class Horticultural Center as well as the Butterfly Center, Wild Birds of Prey exhibition, and a wide variety of seasonal events. We are also located 20 minutes from the popular attractions of Wild Animal Sarfari and Butts Mill Farm, as well as the historic Roosevelt Little White House museum and grounds. For those wishing to travel a bit further, a new and very popular whitewater rafting course is located 40 minutes south, along the Chatahoochee River in Columbus, GA.

But most of all, the Mountain House offers peace and quiet, with mountain air in a relaxing and beautiful setting.
