I booked Wren Cottage through Stayz for 2 guests. The listing clearly advertises a 5-bedroom, 2-bathroom home sleeping up to 12 people, with no mention anywhere that access is restricted for smaller groups. From the moment my booking was accepted and fully paid, the host, Tanya, made the experience stressful. She sent multiple messages and even called, asking repeatedly whether we were “a couple or two singles.” I confirmed the guest numbers each time, yet she kept pressing the same question as if she didn’t believe me.She also told me we would “only need two rooms,” which sounded like she planned to restrict access or something never stated in the listing. She mentioned that extra guests are charged 40 per person per night, which is standard, but then referenced the property's cameras with a smiley emoji, implying that we might try to sneak in more people. The tone of her messages and call was rude, condescending, and aggressive. It felt mocking, accusatory, and intimidating, rather than welcoming guests. When we arrived, things didn’t improve. The property had noticeable wear and tear and several broken fixtures, including:A kettle lid that didn’t close properlyKitchen drawer handles are loose or missing.A sink tap cover falling offFloorboard edges are splitting. It looked tired and poorly maintained. Given the way management communicates, I can easily imagine that guests will be blamed for these existing faults.Overall, this was an unpleasant experience.
